I’ll bet you thought it would be months before we had any spoilers for Chuck‘s third season, didn’t you? Well Josh Schwartz took pity on us and provided a little tease in Ausiello’s latest column:
Will Chuck and Sarah start the season off as a full-fledged couple?
SCHWARTZ: Chuck having the Intersect in his head will severely complicate their ability to be a couple. Â [And] look for a potential new love interest on the show.Really? For who?
SCHWARTZ: Someone who could triangulate between a couple of characters.Male or female?
SCHWARTZ: Gosh, isn’t it more fun to tease?
My take? It sounds like someone comes between two friends, probably two of the guys. Unless Sarah and Anna are intrigued by the same person.
I suggest that everyone who is contemplating the ultimate result of chuck and sarah get Download the Bon Iver Songs that were played when they broke up and when they finally got some alone time in the hotel in episode 21. Also, since we have to figure somethings out here, there is no way that chuck didn’t figuratively seal the deal with sarah on the night of the rehearsal dinner, you know when she was looking all hot and told him that it was real when they were holding hands.

The new love interest will be for Casey, who “triangulates between a couple of characters.” He’s the natural choice, since we already found out in season one that he’s not “built like a Ken doll down there,” and may I say, hallelujah for that. It’d be a crying shame if a hunk like Casey didn’t get his own girl.
I think The love triangle is with Chuck, Sarah and Bryce. What if bryce is not dead and he was in the room with chuck when cuck uploaded the intersect chuck and bryce could both have the intersect and she may realise she loves bryce still as the way she acted as she belived he was dead and taken out of the room.
Wow. A lot of interesting ideas. I am glad to see everyone wants Chuck and Sarah to be together right from the get go in S3. The new intersect inside Chuck’s head could create some interesting story lines for season three. If there are any hang-ups with Chuck and Sarah getting together, I think he will be the one to put the kabosh to the relationship initially, until his feelings come to the surface again. We know Chuck loves her; and Sarah, as made clear in the last two episodes, obviously has great feelings for Chuck. I see Sarah ready to really commit to him, and Chuck now realizes his importance and his roll with the government, and may tell her they cannot be together-for now. I think we all want to see them with each other with all the fixins, and I am confident the writers will give us small doses of everything we need to keep us hanging on waiting for more. Season 1 was good, season 2 was… Awesome. Can’t wait for season 3. I am sure the first episode of the new season will pack a pretty good punch with lots of answers (and more questions!!!)
Here’s hoping for a return of Jordana Brewster as Jill….
I’ve always thought Jill and Chuck should work out. The life he could have had but didn’t. Had the politics of the different spy factions not messed up his life from the get go, I think he would have been happy with Jill. Nothing against Sarah of course. 😉

me i dont think that its jill but the other girlfriend that chuck had before u know that baker who ownd her own shop or its casey and some other girl but its a shame coz these gona only 13 episode in this season i think.but all hopes for chuck and his kong fu.hopefuly they will get together on the first episode so that they can finish what they started in the motel. CANT WAIT when does the new seaseon come out anyways lol
I think they should quite screwing around with all the love triangles and make Chuck and Sarah a solid couple. Now if they wanted to work with Col. Casey and see how he falls for someone and do all the crazy love triangles that’d be cool, but definitely need to keep cuck and sarahs relationship solid don’t need to be having a wedding in the next episode but quite the teasing already.
Enough of the distractions provided by Jill and Lou and Bryce and Cole. It is time for Sarah and Chuck to officially get together. No more excuses.
Admittedly, Sarah is a complex and sexy woman. She’s a smart, tough and cunning spy. But she’s also sensitive, warm, caring and loving. One can see why a hot beauty like her could be attracted to beefcakes like Bryce and Cole. Then again, she’s attracted to Chuck in a different way because of his charm, wit, innocence, and deep feelings.
Throughout seasons 1 and 2, Chuck improved as a spy and began contributing more to the missions in addition to his intersect flashes. He also displayed some unique brands of courage. Now, with Chuck having superspy kung fu skills, he’s finally her equal. He can now mix it up, too. Chuck still has all the old, boyish original qualities she fell in love with but now has acquired spy skills like Bryce. She gets the best of both worlds.
Chuck is seasoned. He’s got confidence now. Like he said to Milbarge, “I can do anything I want.” Sarah has told him “he’s a hero,” and “that guy.” They can be together saving the world or in any scenario.
Nobody knows for sure, he wants Sarah, he’s going to have her and I just don’t see him taking shit from anyone anymore – the government, Beckman, Casey et al.
i back your answer up like 80% my opion is get chuck and sarah together or let sarah admitt her true feelings to chuck and then work on from that
Why can’t the difficulties for Chuck and Sarah lay in hiding their romance? Remember the relationship before it was even full blown had made the Colonel want to send Sarah away.
I agree with Doug. Hiding their romance would be far more exciting than trying to put other people into their love life. I would love to see the season open with Sarah and Chuck laying in bed (like they were in the hotel room) but with a big smile on their faces…then let the spy action beging from there…..

I agree. Now with his acquired skills Sarah no longer has to be his handler, she and Casey can be his partner. Partners can hook up.
I agree with Doug and Jaddsy the Tension between Chuck and Sara doesn’t have to be about keeping them apart but about keeping them together, hiding it from Beckman. The new love interest should be for Casey. While the Chuck/Sara thing isn’t the only reason I watch the show I would be incredibly upset if the writers didn’t have Sara/Chuck get together until the final show ever. Can you imagine the comedy from a real relationship between them? the roles would change and would go from trying to pretend being a couple in front of everyone else to pretending to not be a couple in front of Beckman. I want at least 1 full season of them being together. And in 8 or 9 Seasons when the show has run it’s course Chuck/Sara can get married in the final episode. Chuck and Sara getting together doesn’t have to be the End game of the show.

I agree, I want Sara & Chuck together. Enough teasing; move on to other themes. Watching them indulge their mutual love could be just as entertaining as the two year build up.
The final episode, whenever that is in hopefully far future, should be a jump ahead to a time when Sara & Chuck live in suburbia with kids, Chuck has a hot tech company that Sara works at too. Ellie & Awesome and their kids live next door. Casey and Morgan work for Chuck & Sara’s company, and Morgan still drives Casey crazy. Fill in the other characters.
how about a triangle wit casey but is causes by chuck and sarah or ellie and awesome all together like chuck and sarah gets casey a girl and ellie and awesome gets casey a girl on the same day!!!!! tat wud b a neat set up im mean all the character are in it and u can also add a little jeff and lester action !!!
A lot of good ideas, folks. I guess that’s why this show is so interesting. Nerds4thewin might just have it.
It’s obvious that both Sarah and Chuck care deeply for each other. It has been proven in examples covering two years. Well beyond the cover. In spite of Chuck’s frustrations brought upon by a fake relationship with a hot CIA agent, and his penchant and longing for more, he and Sarah actually did a very good job at convincing people they are a couple.
So yeah, the challenges, story lines and some comedy could be written in an attempt to hide their real relationship from Beckman. It’s easy to forget that Chuck has uploaded the new intersect. She’ll be twice as paranoid and disengenous.
hmmm.. i had the same idea too, that bryce veing not dead and he also got an intersect upload… but, i hope that the triangle is a girl like sarah, chuck and the new triangle, cause i like it when sarah’s actin’ all jealous.. hehe

Another love triangle again??!!!!I’ve keep on waiting fot the episode on when sarah will tell her feelings for chuck which is obviously known that she keeps on hiding. If that love triangle will be on chuck or sarah tht should make sarah tell the truth before its too late…i really love thier romance evn though there are many barriers to their feelings like general beckman,bryce,cole,jill and lou…i think this season will really be huge and awesome start for sarah and chuck…
Now that chuck knows kung fu there romance will be more watched on the following episodes. Chuck will definitely be a spy. Definitely “he will get the life he wants and the girl he wants”….Can’t wait for that!!!!!
i’m really excited on chuck’s 3rd season…it will be a blast for the chuck fans….like me……..non stop comedy, action and romance!!!!
Chuck must have season 4…….it must prevail!!!!even though the 3rd season is not yet on air still fans like me wants more of chuck!!!
Especially chuck and sarah’s feelings for each other…You could not end it just quick and fast to the 3rd season. There’s a lot of scenes and mission for them to do and as it goes by they will realize that they all win.
They all have what they’ve always wanted to…its all about chuck’s life and love…
Ending chuck in season 3 is not a good idea…even thoguh we have some concessions we must strive for the best…We your fans will support it…
I believe he wants Sarah. It’s that simple. He wants to be in her life and he wants her in his life. And he’ll do anything to have her. That’s the most important thing for him at this point. He basically told her this before the wedding in the Season Two finale.
Obviously, his first choice is to have some semblance of a “normal” life with her. And although his frustration is evident, he’s not stupid; he’s beginning to understand that may never happen. Their relationship may always be complicated. But at least he knows Sarah cares for him deeply and romantically.
Therefore, I think he’ll put up with just about anything as long as he’s a part of her life. If she’s a spy or not. If he has the intersect in his head of not.
He told his father that he had to follow her because he loves her. I wish she could have heard that, but I think she knows anyway.
Bryce may still be alive, and that wouldn’t bother me because he’s a good guy in his own right, but I don’t think it will matter much.
Sarah’s had chances to join Bryce on missions and she never goes. She wants to be with Chuck. She’s disobeyed direct orders from Beckman, went AWOL with Chuck to Barstow and tried to tell him during their dance that she doesn’t want to save the world, she wants to be with him. Chuck has always been more than an asset to her and more than just an assignment.
It may not be perfect, it most certainly will not be normal, but I believe come March Chuck and Sarah will be together in some capacity.
Chuck, although likeable, tends to be a whiner and complainer. He’s always hung up on real and pretend. The truth is he’s been with this beautiful woman for two years now. They’ve shared intimate moments, tender moments, light and funny moments and dangerous and death defying moments. Instead of always trying to define their relationship, the big dope merely needs to appreciate that he has one with her at all.
Unfortunately Chuck and Sarah will never be a full fledge couple until the series finale. Josh Schwartz thinks that angst makes for good tv. I can accept that, what annoys me the most is the hint of a love triangle in S3. With the way S2 ended, Chuck professing his love for Sarah, Sarah choosing to stay with Chuck, of course neither one knows this. But to insert another love interest would make them completely shallow and totally unbelievable. The writers have a tendency to develope a story line in one epsisode and act as if it never happened in the subsequent episodes. I hope they correct this in S3.
My suggestion? Mama Bartowski. Hot 40-something with dark hair and eyes who gets chased by Stephen [who wants her back] and John Casey :-).
Philippa’s idea is good… Here is my speculation…
Big Mike and Casey fight over Morgan’s mom. I would go one step further and reveal that Big Mike is part of the villainous spy ring, either with Fulcrum or some other part of it.
Chuck and company return from the big thing and tell Steve that the bad guys are neutralized and the intersect cube is destroyed, but NOT that Chuck uploaded it.
Emmett turns up dead in the first five minutes of S3 Ep1, and the method of death will be something NSA, which triggers Chuck to return to Buy More and beg Big Mike for his job back. He flashes on big Mike and realizes the truth.
Casey will save Morgan’s mom from a mugger and attract her attention, and the two will hit it off. Then Teicia Helfer will return to “polish Casey’s gun.” Meanwhile, Chuck and Sarah will hide the fact that they are not only a couple — but they are secretly MARRIED — from Beckmann, Casey, Tricia, Steve, Awesome and Ellie. Of course, the secret wedding must be on-camera, for us and at least one bad-guy-spy to see.
Awesome volunteers to become an agent and work undercover. After some pretty distracted training by Casey, Awesome is captured by the bad spies who upload a rogue intersect into him. Steve removes it but then finds out that Chuck has the new intersect in him from a well-sedated Awesome, and Steve freaks out.
Turns out that Steve, as ordered by Beckmann, designed the new intersect to eventually KILL anyone who uses it, in order to prevent the super-spy from becoming so powerful and knowledgable as to be uncontrollable. Steve also has no way to remove it from Chuck at this time, and must plunge into designing the cure before it kills his son.
Meanwhile, Chuck learns some new super-spy thing every episode and becomes more and more invincible. He also starts to forget important family things as the intersect continues to rewrite his brain.
Big Mike is the architect of the rogue intersects. Chuck and Big Mike meet in an epic battle, where Big Mike produces his own intersect cube, programmed with all of the kick-toosh super-spy stuff that is also in Chuck. Mike uploads, and the king fu, machine guns, swords, spears, and even the stuffed fish fly.
Steve, Sarah and Casey arrive to see the fight, and Steve’s eyes bulge when he sees the rogue cube. He steals it, as Chuck and Mike fight in a stalemate. Then Sarah kills Big Mike using an iPhone as a throwable knife, impressing everyone.
Sarah and chuck passionately kiss, and then Chuck says, “Guys, we’re married.” Steve says, “what’s your wife’s name?” Chuck cannot remember. With minutes to spare, Steve reverses the rogue intersect and cleans out Chuck’s brain. Life saved… End of S3, but the cliffhanger is: Will Chuck remember anything or anyone?
“Dad! Where am I? Are the pancakes done for dinner?”

I dont think making Chuck and Sarah a couple is a good idea at all. In fact, whenever main characters got together in tv history, the shows typically got canceled within a year later. It seems that there is some truth to the idea that people like to watch a show to see if so and so will ever get together. Once they do, many viewers are satisfied and stop watching.

Bloody hell, they need to stop messing around with Sarah and Chuck as a couple; we’re sick of it. The whole ‘will they won’t they’ plot device has been used over and over and over in so many shows, and while it was enjoyable in season 1, and tolerable in season 2, it will be sickening in season 3.
I completely agree with you, henry stennett! I think it’s impossible to keep their lovestory at the same level for THREE years) they are adults, they can’t be so childish.
I totally agree with jinx and henry stennett. The jealousy angle has been exhausted. It’s time for Chuck and Sarah to be a solid couple. I’ve been thinking about the “severely complicate their ability to be a couple” tease and I think that something like “in front of Beckman and Casey” should be added to the end of that statement. It makes sense. The way I see it, there’s no real way that Chuck and Sarah wouldn’t be together. Now that Chuck knows kung fu he can protect himself, which means that he’ll go from being Sarah’s job to being her partner. If you recall, Sarah says something in the Seduction episode when Chuck asks her if she’ll go on a vacation with him for a few days: “we can’t be together. It’s unprofessional.” Then Chuck brings up Bryce and notes that they were together when they were working together. Sarah’s reply: “Bryce was a spy. You’re an asset and my job is to protect you”. Well, now that Chuck’s no longer her job but instead her partner, they can be together. Also, dare I say this, but it makes sense: I think there’s a strong possibility of Chuck moving in with Sarah maybe in the middle of the season. They’re in love, she wants to sleep with him, and he needs his own place. Additionally, the only thing I see complicating their romance initially is that Sarah’s going to be mad at Chuck for putting the Intersect back in his head. Chuck was so focused on getting it out and now he’s going to owe Sarah an explanation for why he put it back in, especially since she told him that she didn’t want to save the world. But, of course, if anybody will understand his reasons, it’s Sarah, since what she said about “you are that guy” was what made him realize he’s meant to be a spy. But this should only complicate things in the first episode or 2. Once they become partners, they’ll realize that they can be together. Lastly, if Chuck and Sarah don’t become a couple for some weird reason, I think that will be the show’s death sentence. The fans were responsible for getting the show renewed and I know mostly all of us want to see them become a solid couple. Right now the show is in no position to make the fans mad or disappoint them, especially the core fans like me. I wouldn’t mind not seeing a wedding this season, as they’re not quite at that point yet. But I do expect to see some good stuff between them like what we saw in the Colonel episode.
You are concentrating on the two or three main characters too much. Chuck is great in that it is two different shows rolled into one and intelligently woven together… you have the Buy More sitcom and the Chuck, Sarah, Casey spy show.
I would suggest that if the Buy More is still a part of the show (and should be!) that the love triangle is between Jeff, Lester and a new Buy More employee, taking over the “role” of Morgan and Anna within the Buy More sitcom.
Chuck and Sarah MUST be a couple. Hiding their romance from Beckman and Casey would continue the tension, especially when there is a need for one or the other to pretend they are interested in someone else for a mission. Casey however, needs a sexual distraction to chip away at him. I’d love to see how Casey reacts to an emotional “weakness” like attraction 🙂
Chuck and Sarah should deal with the issues of having a relationship in the first episode and make it official by either the end of the first or beginning/middle of the second episode. for the triangle I’m voting for Carina/Casey/Forrest. that would be something i’d look forward to. (it’s been leaked Carina is coming back next season)
also since chances are Orange Orange is changing to a Subway, will Sarah and Lou have a sandwich showdown? that’d be amazing imo

I think Bryce’s death will play a role in Chuck and Sarah not becoming a couple right away. Since Sarah was very close to Bryce, it is reasonable that she will need time to heal over his death. She would understandly be hesitant to jump into a relationship with Chuck at the time.
I think Chuck (and Sarah) also will feel some responsibility to continue being agents in Bryce’s name. They both found out that he did not betray Chuck, Sarah and the country. He is actually considered a hero and I think they both will delay their getting together to ensure what he started as an agent is continued. That will probably be another barrier with them not being a couple right away.
If a relationship does happen, it will likely be late the 3rd season or possibly the 4th season. However, it does make sense that the network will delay the relationship as long as possible. The fact that so many people are wanting it will actually cause the relationship to be delayed. It is good drama. They will find new ways of keeping the relationship from happening beside love triangles. The examples of what I described above will probably be evident in the third season to an extent.
This back & forth Chuck-Sarah relationship wavering is ridiculous.
They’ve pushed it so far in Season 2 it needs to be solid in Season 3 and move on.
S3 should include Casey’s love interest to add the humor of Casey’s emotional side, since he prides himself on his stoicism.
S3 needs to let the “spy Chuck” out of the bag SLOWLY to each of the family members, thru Awesome screwing it up & saying something, and Morgan finding out & getting totally stoked about it and acting like the Looney Tunes cartoon where the little dog is tagging along with the Boss dog trying to tag along on missions, uninvited along with Lester & Jeff, screwing things up and getting caught and just complicating things to the point Chuck, Sarah & Casey have to deal with those complexities.
These Nerds have done it before with the Roark Industries mission, but now they’d know Chuck’s 007 side and be SO jealous, naturally wanting in on the action, trying to talk to Chuck in “code” and pry information out of him.
New employee at the Buy More is the new “Bad Guy/Girl”, trying to get in good with Chuck to get the New Intersect, and throwing Casey off his game, by flirting with him.
Chuck flashes that she’s the “Bad Girl” and Casey & he/Sarah argue, because Casey’s falling in love with her, got poor jusgement, and finally gettin’ some regularly after all these years.
Face it – Casey has some MAJOR pent-up sexual energy, just waiting to explode, pun intended.
New Intersect is designed to NOT be able to be removed, without irreparable harm, and Chuck’s Dad spends all season working on reversing that feature, while the New Intersect slowly “BRAINIACS” Chuck, taking over his mind, killing him, as he gains more knowledge, more abilities, which ultimately CANNOT be handled by the human body.
It could work.
Then again… what Chuck/NBC writer is going to read these Comments, anyway?
Well, not ACTUALLY killing him. Its slowly working toward killing him, if Quantum Leap Bakula can’t get the design modified and uploaded into Chuck’s mind in time, which of course would happen in the Finale of S3 or if there were to be Season 4, at the beginning of S4.
Hopefully this stops all the HATEFUL comments from CHUCK fans who misinterpreted my phrase “killing him” to mean killing the freaking star of the show which bears his name. Duh?!

Wow, there’s alot of great ideas and speculations here 😀 Like all of you, i can’t wait to see Season 3, and what’s in store for Chuck-Sarah dynamics. I don’t know if this has been mentioned already, but on the season 2 finale, Chuck only flashed when Sarah was about to be shot, i just thought that maybe the new intersect activates necessary skills on critical situation, or when Chuck’s loved ones are in big trouble, especially Sarah 😀 and who knows, his kung-fu skills could be just temporary, like an adrenalin rush.. Nonetheless, we can all speculate all we want.. sigh, really can’t wait to see season 3 for the real deal 😀
Well, now that chuck has “some” spy abilities, it would be nice if on S3, they have missions in other countries.. that’s a good idea, i think.. and about chuck/sarah relation, i will sound a little gay now, but they are perfect to each other, it would be very sad, not only to me, but for all the fans, if they don’t get together.. every time when chuck “almost”(?) die .. when he fall from the rooftop, and sarah thinks he dies, or the first time he breaks up with her and she cries.. or when he uses the remote control of the nerdherd car for the bomb.. each one of these scenes, we can see how much sarah cares and really LIKE him .. so, it would be a sin if they dont be together on S3 .. a realy tragic thing 🙁

I think to spite everyone, with all the speculation, the love triangle will involve morgan and anna. Seeing as this sight has already stated Carina will be back, and we all remember how Morgan was with her. I think that would be hilarious and deviously undermine all the fan speculation.
i hope that chuck and sarah FINALLY get together, but if there’s gonna be a love triangle with chuck and sarah i hope it’s gonna be with lou, cause i’m a big fan of rachel bilson!!!

Okay I toataly like all your ideas. But I think defintly the love triangle should be his reward for all his heart breacking work.
Now everyones making a big deal about Chuck dying and being with sarah. Okay look why would Bryce put the Intersect in his head if it was that dangerous huh…. So lets make this clear star character is not going to DIE!!!!!! Now I totally agree with Pat. Shes going to need time to heal but that still won`t stop them from being together and getting married or going on real dates it just takes time and u never know what will happen. And Morgan going all Loony Toon because he knows is awesome. Oh ya I like the thought of having Awesome undercover and a new girl showing up with Casey but I dont know if he`ll flash on her but he might. We don`t know how this new Intersect will work

I think sarah and chuck ought to finally get together! Not at first though because bryce just died and sarah was very close to him so it will take some time for her to get over him. Also the whole chuck knows kung fu is a bad idea because he cant be the guy who has to stay in the car anymore and i really liked him like that! I love chuck.

The logic is that since the operation Bartowski finished, there should have been something between Sara and Chuck after dinner, but left us with a gentle touch of your hand.
On the other hand, back of Bryce’s death would be very unrealistic, so I think we can descartarlo.Creo that the triangle will be with Chuck and Sarah, which I do not like.
Chuck and Sarah can be together and not resent the show, only to find a way, for example, and the jealousy of each other on missions, or to hide Beckhman …
I think you should go and live together as Elli and Awesome are married and not very logical.
I hope Josh does not disappoint us, and Fedak, though it will watch him.
