Welcome to our first Chuck Me Monday! We’re starting at the beginning, which means we’re watching episode 1.01, “Chuck vs. the Pilot.” Remember the first time you met Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Morgan, Ellie, et al? Relive the fun with a friend by watching along with us today! Here’s the official synopsis for this episode:
Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) is a computer geek that gets catapulted into a new career as the government’s most vital secret agent. When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. With the government’s most precious secrets in Chuck’s head, Major John Casey of the National Security Agency (Adam Baldwin) assumes the responsibility of protecting him. His partner is the CIA’s top agent (and Chuck’s first date in years), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski). Also starring are Joshua Gomez as Morgan Grimes, Chuck’s best buddy, Sarah Lancaster as Chuck’s ever-supportive sister, Ellie, and Ryan McPartlin as Ellie’s awesome boyfriend, Captain Awesome.

My favorite scene on this episode is when Sarah tries to steal Chuck PC. Just the line “please not the computer” is so funny. I loved Morgan in that scene, he’s not scared at all and he is really tring to fight it off. Very funny.
Poll : Do you think its really Sarah under that suit? IMO It looks more like a guy than a girl.
My favorite part was when Chuck first saw Sarah and he dropped the phone because he realized that a beautiful girl was looking at him and he said it’s from Batman… then she said “And, that makes it better…” that was hilarious! Damn, Yvonne Strahovski is so beautiful!
Herba, it’s a guy in the ninja suit, a shout-out to Hong Kong films that have female characters who are replaced in the action scenes by men, and it’s soooooo obvious. Quentin Tarantino did the same thing in Kill Bill during the Crazy 88 scene when they were fighting in shadow behind the shoji screens. Hilarious! 😉
I’m with verkisto. That was NOT Yvonne in that ninja suit. It was TOTALLY a guy. There should be NO QUESTION about that one at all!!

Couch Baron on televisionwithoutpity.com mentioned something about what if it was Adam Baldwin in the suit…just think about it for a second. HILARIOUS

Ruby – Watch it again. That is NOT the shape of a woman (especially someone like Yvonne) in that suit. It’s a GUY!! I seem to remember her saying in one of the interviews that it took her a little longer to get here to start working on CHUCK because she was still working on some project back home in Australia. So it COULD be that they filmed some of the things that they could without her where you wouldn’t really “notice” her absence. A scene with someone in a black Ninja suit would fit that to a “T.” (Then they just add the scene with her in the car taking off the mask later on).
(And I majorly doubt that it’s Adam Baldwin, either. Adam’s a big guy, that “Ninja” wasn’t. Bottom line, the figure in the Ninja outfit is not “shapely” enough to be Yvonne, and not “beefy” enough to be Adam. I don’t think it’s any particular cast member).

I bought my footlong for supper and will pop in my DVD at 9.
The only thing that worries me is will I be able to stop after one episode.
Besides the pilot – two of my all-time favourites of Chuck are on that first disk – Tango and Wookie. Actually – come to think of it, just about every episode is an all-time favourite.
I wont be joining you on twitter – I want to concentrate on the show. But I’m sure I will drop some comments here after the show.
Hi ya’ll! I just wanna know if Sarah really has a sister? She mentioned in Chuck vs The Wookie episode that she and her sister accidentally put baby oil so they get sunburn while they were at the beach? If she does have a sister, I’d love it if she appears in S03 and also her mom and Chuck’s mom 🙂 It would be great!

JeffsterFan – I don’t think she has a sister I believe it was a made up story since she is a CIA and it seem to just be a cover thing. She can’t really tell anything real about herself. Plus they only seem to talk about her and her dad throughout season 2 episode and she seem to be the only kid. I could be wrong.

I have been watching the first season. In the Alma Mater episode Byrce says Chuck can’t handle the field, yet he puts Chuck into this position in the pilot. He also says that he knew Sara would find him in the season 2 finale I believe. It seems funny that he does everything to set Chuck down the road he did not want him on. The next question I would like to have answered from a standpoint of curiosity is how does he know Sara would find him and did Sara know that Chuck’s father was Orion. I understand that Byrce knew that Chuck could absorb the intersect based on the Alma Mater episode. Siince Byrce also knew who Orion was could that have been a secondary motivating factor as well? Any thoughts?
Less than an hour to go, I watched a few episodes from season 2, had my footlong and I am ready to go.
I also went to the subway website and left a comment thanking them for their support of Chuck and mentioned having my footlong for Chuckme Mondays. What a great idea linking the footlong to Chuck. Not only do they taste great, but this gives me an excuse not to cook on Monday nights.
Well, the answer to the bryce question is that he’s an a**hole
And as for the Orion bit, I think it’s probably because Papa Chuck used his super-computery-spy skills to hack into the CIA and plant the information there for Sarah to find. That’s my own theory at least. Anyone else have any ideas?

Watching Pilot for #chuckmemondays. Why doesn’t Bryce’s communication device not have a search function? hmmm..
One last thing to think about for tonite. I wonder if Byrce kept turning up at in opportune times because he is (was) jealous of Chuck and Sara’s cover story. Seems like he just tried to do everything he could to keep them apart even thouhg he “knew Sara would find him!”. Also, I end every Chuck viewing with the second half of season 2 finale. The best line is not I know kung foo, (is that spelled right?) but Casey sort of saying UH and Sara’s CHUCK???????????? as he saves them by beating up the bad guys.!!
imkeh that is a great line coming from ellie!! the pilot was one of the best pilots i have seen in a very long time!! Chuck-i diffused a real live bomb!! omg what if i was wrong??!! Casey-try not to puke on the C4 classics lines!!!

I wondered about this aspect of Chuck mythology. I think Sarah knew from her time with Bryce that Chuck was the one friend Bryce could trust and figured that if he was going to send the intersect to anyone it would be Chuck.
I was also thinking that both Bryce and Sarah met on the Omaha project referenced in Alma Mater and then Nemisis “We will always have Omaha”.
I doubt that she knew about Orion, and as for Chuck, I think at the beginning of the PIlot, she just knew he was Bryce’s close friend and a place to start.
Of course, I could just be reading a lot more into the story than is really there.
Gordi you may have something about Omaha. Of course by the beginning of the first season Sara seems to get jealous quickly. For example Sara seems to get real jealous of Lou in the Truth episode when she lies under the truth serium. Casey says did u give anything away and she says no because she was taught how to handle truth serium. She is referring to when Chuck asks if their dating will ever go somewehere and she says no. Also the episode with the DEA agent telling Chuck that she always tries to take away what Sara wants referiing to Chuck….even if she doesn’t know it yet herself.

grcommander, mentioning season 2 finale – for me the funniest moment after Jeffster was when the Special Ops team was planning the wedding.
The moment Casey is looking at the fabric and says “it will clash with the bunting”(whatever bunting is) – it just cracked me up its so out of character.
Five minutes to go and can’t wait to see the greatest Pilot ever shown on TV.

A few subtle things I am finding in the opening of the pilot.
The subtitle “Bryce Larkin – not an accountant” – funny.
Morgan hanging out the window then just standing up.
The North by Northwest poster on the wall where Tron hangs in the rest of the episodes. Anyone who knows that movie – it is about an ordinary man who stumbles into the world of espionage. Its a perfect fit for the Pilot.
I wonder if they will ever do an episode where Chuck is hanging off Mount Rushmore – like the climax in that movie.
I also wonder if that poster will show up in a season 3 episode.
How many times has that explosive device been used on the show? The Pilot, Chuck vs. the Break-Up, and Chuck vs. the Gravitron.
Ok, anyone, what is that song playing during Chuck’s first scene at BuyMore? “Strange days…something something”?

Never realized before that she kept Chuck’s flowers. They were on her bed while she was looking at her photos with Bryce.
