Ratings News: Chuck vs. the Wedding Planner

Chuck vs. the Wedding Planner gave us some great background on Sarah Walker. Very cute and at times, bittersweet, we saw what it was like growing up with a con man for a dad. Gary Cole reprises his role as Jack Burton. And Kathleen finally finds out that not only is Casey still alive, but Alex’s news regarding his involvement with the CIA is, in fact, truth. Love it!

According to the ratings news just posted, Chuck remains low at 1.3 in the 18 – 49 demo, which is unchanged from last week. Approximately 4.2 million viewers tuned in, up just a smidge from last week. NBC’s other Monday shows – The Event and Law & Order: Los Angeles – both dropped to 1.1 in the demo.

Reminder: Head over to RewardTV.com and complete the Chuck game/survey to be counted by Nielsen as a viewer last night. Also check out the renewal campaign activities here and help get a season 5.

  1. A message to the Nielsen viewers who did not watch this episode; I am so so sorry. You missed something special and I am very sorry for you.

  2. Always optimistic, but I think this could be the end of the road for our beloved. It’s been a perfect rode, and I couldn’t ask for better. I’m still hoping that NBC sees the true quality of the show, but if not, at least allowing us a thirteen episode closer. I, then, might be able to accept the finality. 🙂

  3. Michelle? Who is Michelle?!?!!?
    WAKE UP LIZ!

  4. Another HIMYM episode with only 6.3 million viewers and House tied it series low DWTS down 13% was is it about Mondays these two weeks Heck I think more people watching on Fridays Is it the NBA playoffs ? Wrestling on USA ? this is not good NBC could put in 3 new shows on Monday and probably do as well now

  5. 1.3 demo. 4.2 million total viewers. No end-of-season-episodes bounce yet detected in the demos.

May up-fronts are getting way too close for numbers like those.

  6. One of the best episodes of the season! Makes me sad to think it is more of a lock for this beloved show of mine and yours to be canned by NBC. Please NBC just give us even a 9 episode pick up (half season 5) to wrap up everything nicely for us to ride off into the sunset for this show and my sanity. : (

  7. We can “say please” to NBC all we want, but what it’s going to come down to is between WB and NBC – can they both somehow still make enough money to justify keeping CHUCK around for another season. That’s why at this point I think the patronizing of the advertisers is probably more critical than the ratings (which aren’t likely to change much over the final three episodes).

Keeping fingers crossed, but even if we end this season, it will have been a nice ride – with hopefully a GREAT ending!!

  8. I can’t believe it!!! I just get my older sister hooked on Chuck to the point that she hung up on me mid telephone call to watch Chuck and then this happens what is it with the Nielson watchers. This was another great episode making this the Best season ever and still nobody but the true fans are watching it this driving me NUTS!!!

  9. I’m just hoping they don’t end the season/series with a retarded cliffhanger (Sarah in a coma/someone’s UNCERTAIN death).

  10. Seriously, I think this was one of the best episodes in the series!

  11. It looks to me as if this is more about who is watching, or not watching NBC on Monday nights. I know the numbers don’t look good, but anything NBC puts on Monday night still looks worse than Chuck. It also says to me that Chuck would look a lot better on a night when people are more inclined to check out what NBC is doing. Never say never!

  12. I’m such a Chuck fan, I missed part of the Boston/Montreal playoff hockey game to watch it.

There was no way I could miss the return of Jack Burton, and PVR was not an option because there is no way I could wait an extra few hours to watch one of the best episodes of the season.

Don’t tell anyone though, I might have to give up my Canadian citizenship. LOL

  13. Greatest ep ever (since Gary Cole was on and Sarah did a freakin’ flash lol) and it only got a 1.3. CHUCK ME!

  14. Ratings still tanked shame too, best episode Ive ever seen. I loved how Sarah was teasing Chuck’s flash. The interaction with them as a couple was amazing, plus it was one of the first times, we saw Beckman in a comedic role. Also Mel and Liz, while I was searching for stuff for work, I came across a few things.

    1. Yvoone appeared in a Katy Perry/Lady Gaga spoof for College Humor
    2. The chuck ad twitter campaign has different press agencies buzzing and even Pepsi thanked us Chuck fans.

“Wow! #chuck fans are awesome! Thanks for all the support!!!! #notanielsenfamily”

  15. This is bad news, but what Larry said is a very important point. That’s one of the biggest factors that will determine renewal. Once again, Chuck is the least worst show, and as long as that keeps happening, NBC doesn’t have anything to replace it so their hands are tied. Everybody, make sure you go to Reward TV. One thing that I’ve noticed is that people who look at SpoilerTV know what good tv is and what reality trash is (evidence is in the “what will you watch tonight” polls that they put up) and also many Chuck fans there I don’t see here. So I’m going to post some comments there telling them about Reward TV.

Also, I thought I’d share a little scenario that I’ve envisioned: NBC renews Chuck for season 5, announces that it’s the final season, and moves Chuck to Fridays. Now personally I wouldn’t mind if they moved it to Friday because Monday isn’t doing any good. Anyway, NBC moves it to Fridays because that’s where TV shows go to die. But, Chuck is unique and different than other shows in many ways, and this is one of them. In the process of moving it to Fridays, NBC will also finally at long last correct the one huge mistake they keep making: not changing the time slot. But of course the idiots won’t realize this. Then, because of the drastic reduction in the amount of competition (finally), all of a sudden the show will start constantly getting 2.5s and 3s because all those people who watch House and DWTS, etc. will finally be able to watch it and NBC will be sitting there in stunned silence with their jaws on the floor thinking “OMG. How did we not figure this out earlier?” Then they’ll realize that they need to order more episodes and the rest is history.

Lastly, quick question for Mel or whoever might know the answer: does anybody know exactly how much impact/influence each survey/game taken/played on RewardTV has on the demo rating and/or number of viewers?

    • Just thought of one quick thing to add to my envisioned scenario. NBC should take a hint from what Fox did with Fringe. Fringe wasn’t doing well on the night it was originally airing on and the fans spoke up and said to move it to Friday. Fox accepted the suggestion and now I believe Fringe is the most watched show on Friday night.

I also can’t believe that it seems like the “change the time slot” message from Chuck fans has never gotten to NBC. If it has and they didn’t accept it, then dang, NBC is a lot more stupid than even I thought.

  16. i know that glee is on a different night but it only got a 1.2 in the demo. Sure its fox but it’s suppost to be a revolution. is there a chance that chuck could change networks? mabye to fox or if CBS picked it up(long shot) i bet it would have higher ratings.

  17. Hi Liz and Mel,
    Some questions for you:

It appears that less and less people across the board are watching TV on Monday nights (I believe this happened last year). Does NBC take this into consideration or do they ignore it and just look at Chuck’s numbers?

And, is Chuck really competing against the other networks’ shows or is it competing among NBC’s own scripted shows? If it’s the latter, I would think it has as good a chance of renewal as any of the other shows. I mean what other shows could NBC put on Monday night that would do better against their competition! Wasn’t Chuck doing much better before DWTS started their spring run?

My opinion is, NBC has this established show (4 years) that has rabid, loyal fans. Why not renew it for 13 episodes, put it on another night and see how it does? Why not give it a fair chance for a change? And promote it! Man, this show has one of the most talented and beautiful actresses on TV – why don’t they promote the heck out of her?? It seems like NBC is perfectly OK sacrificing this great show on Monday nights – for what?

  18. imnotsureimchuck

hey heres suggestion for chuck move it to usa network and pair it with royal pains or white collar i mean both those shows average 4-5 million viewers a bet chuck ratings would rise! what do u guys think?…

  19. Just a question, why are the Hungarian scientists speeking with russian accent?? And why they have German names? I think a producer is fool a little bit…

  20. Anybody got the addresses for NBC to send in letters. I know they have changed hands and have new leadership. But I don’t know who it is.

  21. I’m wondering if Chris Fedak knows something that we don’t.. if he has had an indication somehow that they will be renewed for a fifth season because of sydication rights/money because why else would you write a season finale with a possible cliffhanger? Although he does not write cliffhangers that you have to wait until next season to see what’s going to happen, he does write with another season in mind. I think they should just give them the fifth season!! and let them finish the series like someone else wrote.

  22. Love the show – but if the Cliffhanger ends with Sarah waking up and having memory loss and forgetting Chuck and all that’s happened for the past few years
    and asks “Where’s Brice?” I’ll scream…especially
    there is no season 5.
