Yvonne Strahovski Joins The Astronaut Wives Club

You guys, I’m so excited! I was already stoked that ABC picked up The Astronaut Wives Club from Josh Schwartz (you know, the co-creator of Chuck) and Stephanie Savage, and now The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Yvonne Strahovski will co-star!

Based on the terrific book by the same name, The Astronaut Wives Club is a 10-episode series coming to ABC mid-season. Here’s the official synopsis from ABC, although I highly recommend checking out the book as well.

Based on the book by Lily Koppel, this 10 episode series tells the story of the women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history.  As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, Life Magazine documented the astronauts’ families, capturing the behind-the-scenes lives of their young wives.  Overnight, these women were transformed from military spouses into American royalty. As their celebrity rose and tragedy began to touch their lives, they rallied together.

Yvonne will play Rene Carpenter, who is married to Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter (played by Wilson Bethel). A mother of four, she’s strong and upfront and enjoys the limelight. She enjoys being center of attention and is the only one of the wives singled out for her own magazine cover.

The rest of the cast includes: Dominique McElligott as Louise Shepard, JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Betty Grissom, Odette Annable as Trudy Cooper, Zoe Boyle as Jo Schirra, Azure Parsons as Annie Glenn, Erin Cummings as Marge Slayton, Yvonne Strahovski as Rene Carpenter, Desmond Harrington as Alan Shepard, Bret Harrison as Gordo Cooper, Kenneth Mitchell as Deke Slayton, Sam Reid as John Glenn, Aaron McCusker as Wally Schirra, and  Joel Johnstone as Gus Grissom.

  1. I don’t know the book, but it sounds like a great role.

  2. Isn’t great that we care so much about the Cast?! No other show has had me so involved in their well being! And to have Yvonne in another role is simple fantastic! I will DEFINITELY be watching! 😀
