Zachary Levi in Chuck season 5 premiere

Chuck Cameos on THE OFFICE

On last night’s episode of The Office, Jim and Dwight are tasked with finding ways to bring people into the new Sabre store in Florida (I think…it’s been a while since I watched that show). One of them decided to recruit a “celebrity”: Zachary Levi as Chuck. The cardboard version, that is. Check out the shots of our favorite Nerd in this video from Zachary Levi Fan:

  1. Another Chuck cast member in NBC’s Parks and Recreation last night Fernando played by Jesse Heiman (BuyMore Employee) About 5min into the episode. He is the one with his mouth against the water fountain.

  2. Saw it last night and loved it!

It does seem kind of strange that they would use an actor/character from a canceled show on their own network though. Am I the only one that thinks that? I guess out of all of the characters/actors on the network Chuck/Zac is the best fit to promote a tech device, but it’s still seems kind of strange.

  3. Chuck was actually mentioned a bunch of times last night on The Office, and it was great!

My only question is where was that Office promotion a few years ago? It could have helped.

Also, I prefer to refer to Chuck as a “completed” show rather than a “canceled” one 🙂

  4. I just hope it wasn’t meant to be more cruel than funny, seeing as how all the products sold by Sabre are clearly failures. Nice to see Zac on NBC again, but if its just to make fun i’m not sure how cool i am with it

    • That was actually my first thought as well. It’s implied that the Sabre products are failures, so I really hope it wasn’t meant to be a dig at Chuck or Zac.

  5. I love how they also joked about how Jim/ John krasinski and Chuck/Zac look a like. When the camera zooms in on chuck’s cardboard cut out it zooms out and then zooms in to Jim’s face and the women behind the camera said ” I wonder which one of you is chuck?” and also when Jim said that he could be chuck.

  6. Mindy Kaling wrote this episode and I do not think that anyone associated with Chuck either behind the scenes or in front of the camera would take offense to being part of the joke.

Given Chuck’s nerd cred, it just works in the context of the episode that Sabre would seek out Chuck as a marketing tie-in. The meta-joke was how people over the years have noted a resemblance between John Krazinsky and Zac Levi.

This episode was probably written last Fall and filmed around the same time the final Chuck’s were filmed. Originally, Chuck was going to have its finale much later than it did.

  7. I think it was in tribute to Chuck. I also think the writers may be Chuck fans. I mean, Dwight did say at the end, “What’d you think? Not enough Chuck? It probably could of used more Chuck.” =)

  8. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Fedak, who was a fan of the Office, stated his inspiration came from asking the question “what if Jack Bauer walked into the office, grabbed Jim by the ear and started dragging him along on missions?”. So this seems like a natural fit and may explain the similarity between the characters of Chuck and Jim.

  9. i think it was meant in good fun. it’s friday again and no chuck………it’s funny how we use to look forward to friday so much and now there is just a big ol hole there….it will get better in time……

  10. It appears as though I need to go ON DEMAND and watch the office for the first time in like a year haha
