Episode 1.8 "Chuck vs. the Truth"
« on: November 13, 2007, 12:58:32 PM »
I felt so sorry for Chuck after he met Lou. He was stuck! Suddenly, he realizes that pretending to date Sarah is very confining. I felt so bad for him when Sarah told him that none of it was real and that it would never go anywhere. I wasn't surprised to find out that Sarah was able to fight the truth serum and lie to Chuck about their relationship. I felt bad for her too, at the end, when she saw Chuck and Lou getting on so nicely together. She's kind of confined as well.

The whole thing with Tang was very funny!

I so did not see Big Mike's revelation coming! So that's why Harry Tang got the promotion. ;)

It was nice to see Ellie in action, even though proud Chuck led the bad guy (Hey, it's Kevin Weisman!) right to her. I wasn't surprised that Sarah was working against the truth serum, either. What a tangled web we weave.

I was re-watching this episode and noticed that when Casey was listening to Chuck and Sarah he was drinking a glass of milk and a plate of cookies.  I don't know why but I found that funny.  One of the great things about this show is that it seems that every time you rewatch an episode you notice something else new.

Yes! Here's big, tough, secret agent Casey, eating cookies with milk. I love watching little breakdowns in character on this show.

Easily contains for best and already mentioned Chuck and Sarah moment from the first season and the series to date at the end with Chuck pleading with Sarah to tell him at least one fact about herself.

The open plea from Chuck,  the conflict within Sarah - which plays on her face, and then her speaking out her middle name out of Chucks earshot, with the poignant piano piece music cue playing throughout the scene - all adds up to the most touching moment in the first season.

It also has the most important scene where Sarah tells Casey that she has had training to withstand truth serums and lied to Chuck about her true feelings.  This is the fulcrum point upon which the season hinges upon.

I think the first part was in Chuck vs the Wookie(I remeber the pizza thing), the second part is from the truth episode at the very end where Sarah see Chuck walking into lou's sandwhich shop. It's one of my favourite episode's, think one of the funniest to date.

I agree 100%   that scene is quite touching on many levels.  It's a beautifully acted "intimate" moment.  I'm reminded of jherb's comments about mature love and devotion over in the "Spoilers" forum when I watch that scene.

Another thing I wanted to mention about this episode the use of a truth serum to reveal inner thoughts of characters goes back back to the original Star Trek(TOS from now on - and yeah I know I'm really dating myself here :o) episode = 'The Naked Time.'

Its a clever way to bring out character bits that otherwise could never be revealed without being clunky.  I liked the way Chuck used it to do the same thing and make it funny at the same time.  The scenes at the gymnast's apartment were very entertaining.

Chuck is a great tv series which has good humor. This is my favorite episode. I felt sorry for Chuck after he met Lou. He was so stucked. It was nice to see Ellie in action, even though proud Chuck led the bad guy right to her. The whole thing with Tang was too funny. I enjoyed watching this episode.

One thing I could say, I MISS THE WEINERLISCIOUS!!

and that first break up scene is just simply beautiful and certainly one of the most heartfelt scenes in the whole series.

I realized something on a re-watch of this episode.  Chuck didn't ask Sarah if she loved him, if she wanted to date him, or even if her flirting was real.  He asked her if what they had under the under cover thing was going anywhere.  I am not even sure he was sure what they had.
When I looked at it in this light it occurred to me that the vs. the Truth title took on another meaning.  Sarah didn't lie to him.  It wasn't going anywhere because it couldn't go anywhere, or so she thought.  To protect him she feels that she has to try her hardest to suppress her feelings for him.  Yet her comments to Casey let us know that she wants something more.
