SPOILERS: Who’s Getting the Flashback Treatment Next on Chuck?

Ausiello just posted a tidbit about the Chuck season finale that’s sure to get fans speculating:

My Buy More mole just tipped me off that Josh Schwartz is casting younger versions of Chuck and Ellie ( 7 and 11, respectively) to appear in a flashback sequence in Chuck’s season finale. No other details were provided, but I spy a connection between this and Scott Bakula’s return as Bartowski patriarch Steve. Also, if you recall, Schwartz recently declared that Bakula’s Chuck comeback arc would be “the biggest thing we’ve ever done on the show.” Put it all together and what do you get?

UPDATE: I’m told the ep will flash back to the night Pop B left home, forcing Chuck and Ellie to become each other’s family.

Well, Chuck Nation, what do you get? (C’mon, you guys know this one.)

Chuck vs the Goodbye: 10 Years Later

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Chuck series finale. It feels like a decade …

  1. Mama Bartowski or the night Papa Bartowski left.

    • They’re casting the kids too young for that. Mama Bartowski left when Chuck was in fifth grade, so he must have been 10-11 years old unless he was some kind of crazy child prodigy. Papa Bartowski didn’t leave completely until years later.

Which makes the child ages given here all the more intriguing, no?

  2. This is great — shows they’re barreling toward a S4, so we’d better come up with the eyeballs! This definitely sounds like the departure of Ma Bartowski because didn’t Pa depart after Ellie turned 18 (otherwise, how was she able to keep Chuck with her?). I like the idea that Ma might be part of the whole conspiracy, but I guess it’s possible that she’s someone who finally just broke under her husband’s mission.

  3. It will be interesting to see how this plays out along with the episode. It could be of when Ellie And chuck find out there dads gone.

    • Yeah, but if they were supposedly 7 and 11, I never heard about any other relative coming in or a foster situation — Ellie couldn’t have run the household back then, right? Plus, I thought the old man booked significantly later than Mom B.

      • Unless they come up with another plot hole, this one the size of the Grand Canyon, Momma B left several years before Papa B did.

In vs Best Friend, Chuck was trying to tell Sarah what Morgan meant to him. He told Sarah that Momma left home first. Later, Papa left, but even when he was around, he was somewhat like a “space cadet”.

  4. Ted Roark said to Papa Bartowski in Chuck versus the Dream Job “remember I always got the girls.” I think Ted lured Mama Bartowski into some sort of blunder from which she never recovered.

  5. Is Lynda Carter going to play Mama bartowski?

  6. It does sound like we learn something about Chuck’s and Ellie’s mom. I’m guessing she turns out to be Irina Derevko.

  7. Lynda Carter is the most obvious choice. Sarah Lancaster looks more like Lynda Carter every week. I really hope the powers-that-be have considered her.

Will we see a young Morgan again? He was there helping Chuck all along.

The flashback I really want to see is Morgan singing “Glory of Love” to Ellie.

  8. This is the ep were Irina Derevko makes her grand appearance. “Mom??”

  9. I’m guessing this is something like Fringe where children were subjected to expirements to give them more brainpower. Could Ellie also have “a very special brain” to allow her to access the intersect as well?

  10. This is my theory, Papa Bartowski starts to experiment on Chuck and Ellie at an early age without telling Mama Bartowski. Mama Bartowski finds out years later what Papa Bartowski has created their children and gives him two choices, stop everything he is doing or she leaves.
I think its sort of that HULK senerio where his dad experimented on him and then his dad killed his mom…not saying that Papa Bartowski killed Mama Bartowski.

  11. Somebody had an interesting post on Ausiello’s board that Ma B. might have been a CIA agent assigned to protect Pa B. and it grew into a relationship a la Charah. As for what happened to Ma, I’m still going with the theory that Ma and Pa B. got pulled into something by Roarke (he’s not dead, right?) and Pa B. extricated himself until he had to go on the run and leave the kids, assumably when Ellie was old enough to legally care for Chuck.

  12. I agree with Lynda Carter as Mmama B, especially her resemblance to Ellie/Sarah Lancaster. But howsabout Amy Irving, who looks more like Chuck/Zach Levi? And do we get to see Sarah’s mom? Heather Locklear? Jessica Lange? Christie Brinkley?

  13. With the update, I’m a little bit confused. Papa B didn’t leave until both Chuck and Sarah were in highschool… unless it’s referring to when Chuck said “our dad was here but he was never really here” in Chuck vs. Sizzling Shrimp…? I always thought that was referring to him being preoccupied and “crazy”. I like the idea Lisa brought up! But now I’m very confused.

  14. Okay, this casting is driving me crazy, then adding that it’s the night Papa B left. That is just wrong, unless it’s a shakespeare timeline, like they have in Desperate Housewives (Which also drives me crazy btw). Mama B left when Chuck and Morgan were in the 5th grade together. And, I may be a little off on this, but Papa B didn’t leave until Chuck was 17 or 18 and Ellie was 22 or so. this flashback, if the ages are correct, would be when the entire family is together and happy; before anything spy related was happening.

  15. My thought is that while we may see Pa B leave, that Chuck and Ellie will be the actual actors. Perhaps we will see the mom leave with the younger kids (For instance, starting a flash back of the whole family with kids 7 and 11, age to when mom leaves with same kid actors just older looking), and then see dad leave with Zach Levi and Sarah Lancaster as the actors. Yeah, 10 years is kind of a stretch, but they’ve done it in shows before.

  16. Lynda Carter is a great choice !!! wonderful !!!!
