NBC has released the official synopsis for episode 3.17, “Chuck vs. the Living Dead”:
CHUCK TRIES TO KEEP HIS SPY LIFE SECRET FROM HIS FATHER – SCOTT BAKULA (“QUANTUM LEAP”) GUEST STARS – After his last dream, Chuck (Zachary Levi) asks Morgan (Joshua Gomez) to help him on a side mission. Their investigation becomes complicated when Stephen J. Bartowski (guest star Scott Bakula) returns and learns that Chuck downloaded the Intersect 2.0. Luckily, Chuck’s father may be able to help his son. Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Ryan McPartlin, Scott Krinsky, Vik Sahay and Mark Christopher Lawrence also star.
Welcome back, Papa B! “Chuck vs. the Living Dead” airs Monday, May 17 at 8/7c on NBC.
Sounds like Chuck’s going to be dealing with Shaw’s death in this one.
Or there could be something seriously wrong with the intersect and its causing Chuck to have strange dreams. This could explain how Papa B helps.

I think Ted Roark is dead. I mean he got shot in the chest in the S2 finale.
HA HA I was right. I knew something was wrong with the intersect. I am so smart.
Bryce was shot in the chest by Casey in the pilot… at close range. Roark could come back.
And Shaw was shot TWICE in the chest and is apparently still alive.
I like Papa Bartowski coming back to help his son with the dreams.

Roark was killed by a Ring Agent, so they wouldn’t want to revive him,
and Larkin was shot dead by the same ring agent.
Plus, the guy that plays him has his own show now “White Collar”
More than likely Shaw will return in this episode or the next one.

I have to feel something both for Chuck and Papa B. Stephen sacrificed a lot by going on the run and losing what years he could’ve had with his children to keep them safe. And managed to get the last intersect out so Chuck could win his freedom, only for Chuck to choose the spy life so he could use it to help and protect those he loves and cares about. It’s easy to understand on both sides of the coin.
BTW, is anyone else besides me thinking that the finale is going to kill off both Awesome AND Ellie?
I don’t think they would do anything that traumatic. Although I could see it bring the death of Papa Bartowski.

Hey, they’ve been pushing Ellie off the show most of the season. It would save money and pack a pretty big emotional wallop. Hate the see Sarah Lancaster go, however.
What if they killed off Awesome and brought Elle and Morgan together? Think of all the permiations they could use dealing with that !
Hmm….no one has brought up what the “side-mission” is yet. I wonder if Chuck is asking Morgan to help him pick out a ring???? :o)
Hmmmm…That’s an interesting guess. The synopsis makes it seem like the dream and side mission are related and given the nature of the role of the dream in the 3.16 synopsis we assume it’s intelligence related. It’s too nicely wrapped up for what NBC usually tweaks us with. Perhaps Morgan’s side mission has nothing to do with the dream, or the dream is about something more personal and less spy related. Sending Morgan on a quest for the ring because Chuck can’t do it personally without tipping of Sarah would make a lot of sense. Sarah, like Ellie might have a sixth sense regarding jewelry in addition to her finely homed spy senses.
Just a thought but has anyone considered the possiblity that with all the talk about that, in the finale, there are changes that the writers cannot retreat from, one might be that Sarah gets pregnant.
My first thought when I read the synopsis. Could very well be it.
Has anyone thought that “Luckily, Chuck’s father may be able to help his son” may be a bit ironic? I mean, i can’t see papa B. being happy with his son being a spy let alone giving him the heads up to continue and this may be a reference to how he helped chuck last season getting the intersect out of his head.
he may not be pleased, but you know the Bartowski’s, they stick together through thick and thin. So Papa B will stand by Chuck and his teammates no matter what.
What father couldn’t be proud of his son becoming a hero, being able to protect his only daughter, and because of his spylife giving him his only grandchild. He would have to know that 2.0 has brought his son everything he has ever wanted in life and changed him from a scared kid to a confident, strong, and brave man. Plus with him staying with Sarah he couldn’t be in safer hands.
In my opinion, this show is substantially influenced by Alias. Following this general story, I believe Chuck’s mother will be revealed in the season finale. Furthermore, the person that is the recipient of the grievous harm will be Chuck. I am a fan of J.J. Abrams, hence I am prone to over-thinking plot lines; however, I believe that killing a subsidiary character such as Awesome or Chuck’s father is too dark for this show. I have no evidence, but if anyone is killed off, or presumed dead, I lean towards it being Chuck in name only. The main argument against this thought process is the light nature of the show and how it will effect the plot of the next season. Chances are the explanation of the death in the season finale is much simpler.
I’ve been entertaining the idea of an imaginary “death” for a quite a while myself, one in which “Charles Bartowski” is forced to drop off the face of the earth so that “Charles Carmichael” can step out into the spotlight. Permanently. It would definitely remove Awesome from the so-called danger he always finds himself in and finishes the last step in the gradual drift we’ve seen grow between Chuck and Ellie. And since Morgan already knows about Chuck’s spy life, he can still be kept in the equation.
Interesting idea. I’ve always seen the show as having three parts: the spy world, the family, and the Buy More. Of course they all merge, with Morgan and Sarah more or less joining the “family”, and Casey and Morgan juggling spy stuff and work at the Buy More. But given that they’ve less time to the Buy More plots, I’m not sure that they would completely remove the family aspect from the equation. Sure, Team Bartowski is close, but removing the Brother/Sister relationship like that would be drastic, even though it hasn’t been a big focus lately.
ooh i think it would be so good if Chuck’s mother did come back.. and as bad as this sounds i kinda want Chuck to have a serious injury…. like not to do with the intersect. I mean not die obviously but he hasn’t exactly been seriously injured on a mission before… and that would make for a hell of a cliffhanger
Another theory I have based off Alias, is that Chuck’s mother will be the Ring leader. Hopefully this realization (if applicable) will not be the season ending cliffhanger. It will be a long if not interminable wait to realize the conclusion.
That would also involve Sarah’s death. If the Ring is chasing one they have to be chasing the other. The only way this would work would be both dying.

No way Ellie dies. Sarah Lancaster is amazing. (All she needs is a better storyline. It might be time for her to find out that Chuck and her dad are spies and so are Casey, Sarah and Morgan.) Ellie and Awesome are, well, too awesome to just dump off the show. I’d rather see Jeffster go on tour for a few episodes to keep E&A. Hopefully Ellie will be pregnant with a little awesome soon so Bruce Boxleitner and Morgan Fairchild can return next season as grandparents. And just where is Chuck’s mom???

By the way, CHUCK is the best TV series ever! EVER!
I think Steven Bartowski will save Chuck’s mental health with a new download that will pull some of the flash superpowers out but add different ones that male the flashes work on demand. Season one and two’s intersect worked without harming Chuck While 2.0 was designed for someone who could control emotions. Perhaps 2.1 might allow better access but hinder fighting skills. I guess we will know in 5 days. I really cant wait but we are running out of this year’s episodes and it will most likely be next year before we get season 4. Wouldn’t Subday spynight with Chuck and Undercovers be great!!!!!

I think that whatever Dr. Dreyfus does it just makes Chuck able to function but does not “fix” it. The promo indicates that he is still having dreams. He needs Dad to fix whatever is actually wrong.
I also think that Dr Dreyfus is the one who causes Chuck’s dad to come back. His first name is Leo, a constellation, which leads me to beleive he has some connection with Chucks dad and the original intersect project.
Finally I find it interesting that Ellie’s specialty is suddenly revealed to be neurology, I bet Chuck could use some help from a good neurologist!
I think Leo is a reference to “what about bob” its a bill murray movie and Richard “Dreyfuss” is his therapist who goes by the name of Leo. Be looking for a “Baby steps” reference in tonights episode.
Papa B prepared/designed the Intersect 2.0 for Bryce. Wonder if he installed a fail safe against “abuse” that is now acting up against Chuck. He would be highly motivated to help Chuck if that is the case, no matter why Chuck downloaded the intersect in the first place.
Also, has anyone seen Canadian promo for 3.16? Been missing those for awhile now….
I have been thinking the same reason intersect 2.0 was for Bryce. We need a Ben kenobi like scene like in return of jedi. with Bryce helping chuck from the dead.
i am very anxious about that episode.maybe chuck really suffers from the new intersect and it would be for his own good and mental stability to remove it.
Rewatching the preview tonight, I remembered the rather strong physical reaction Papa B had to his flash in S2:E22. Many people suspected there was a physical cost to having an intersect in the noggin. It looks to me like Papa B developed a device to save/lengthen his life. But he isn’t sure he can provide the same to Chuck especially given the power of Intersect 2.0.
Chuck is awesome! I wanna see next edpisode’s chuck. i don’t want chuck to became crazy, it will probably hurt sarah. but if the story doesn’t go like this, it may be boring and lose it’s supporters. it’s really difficult!
here is the craziest idea of all: Shaw and Bryce are brothers and the leaders of the Ring, their death was staged. The Intersect was created so that it can be tested if it can destroy a human being compeltely (mentally, physicall & spiritually) and the whole series from the beginning …
…is about Chuck surviving this experiment.
Has anybody given a thought that maybe Shaw is the ‘significant death’ in the finale? I mean, apparently he’s alive, and what if he comes back for Sarah?
Yes, I believe Shaw is the significant death after watching “Chuck Versus the Tooth”. Shaw could be gunning for Chuck, Sarah, or Team Bartowski. Maybe Shaw goes for poetic justice by attempting to kill the object of Sarah’s affections in retaliation for the death of his wife. Also, it is possible that Shaw tries to kill Sarah to avenge his wife and harm Chuck in the process for his ineffective foray into homicide. Only two weeks until the answer is revealed.
The problems is, how he can alive after episode 13? He is supposed to be dead. I saw Chuck shot at him. Did’t he?

I think Ellie unknowingly causes her Dad to be captured and Chuck will save him (for now). Would not be surprised if Dad gets killed in the finale-hope not. I think Chuck’s Dad will do away with the Intersect problems–I wonder if Chuck and Sarah run into some problems-do not trust F&S to leave well enough alone-I want them to stay together through the end of the series-whenever that will be. Will Chuck’s old brainy girl friend come back to help him? If so will she be killed-lets kill Shaw off for good–Chuck give him a couple in the head!!!Will Shaw’s knowledge of the castle facilitate it’s destruction? The rest of the episodes should be packed with action–hopefully true love prevails.
Maybe the “side mission” that chuck and morgan are going on is to buy sarah an engagement ring! cuz the finale is called Chuck vs. the ring part 2… i don’t know if it makes sense but that would be awesome!
