RATINGS: “Chuck vs. the Tooth” Stays Flat

It’s another good news/bad news situation for Chuck fans, depending on your particular outlook. The fast overnights are in for “Chuck vs. the Tooth” and while they aren’t down from last week, they also aren’t up. Against new shows on the broadcast networks and a pair of hyped playoff games, Chuck pulled a 1.9 in the 18-49 demo (same as last week) with approximately 5.33 million viewers tuning in (up a smidge from last week). Chuck still drew NBC’s highest demo ratings for the night, however. And once again, we aren’t the only ones scratching our heads over low numbers: The Live Feed reports that House drew its lowest numbers since 2004.

  1. I guess the most important thing to point out is that network TV as a whole has been dropping since DST. The ratings drop is not confined to Chuck but to the majority of shows on network TV.

  2. Well,I am from Slovakia and i have a problem watch it live because i dont got NBC program so i can only watch it on the internet..and I really love the show.

  3. I guess everyone that’s ever going to watch is watching. We’ll probably never see a significant increase but hopefully never significantly decrease either. Slow & steady wins the race. Sort of. Haha. : /

  4. The good thing is that it is NBC best preforming Monday night show. The bad news is that this can’t be seen as a guaranteed renewal. But whatever let’s just keep watching and keep our faith until the announcements 🙂

  5. Well, I guess it’s not too bad, but it’s not that great either. This is, however the last episode airing before we’ll know whether NBC renews Chuck or not, if it’s true that they’ll announce it on Sunday. I really hope Chuck gets a fourth season, though! They’re the best show, currently on TV, and the cast and crew definitely deserves it! Go Chuck!

  6. Well, May 16th (NBC has announced they are moving up-front announcements up to Sunday afternoon, about 5 pm, ish) the answer to the question — will Chuck be renewed — will be known. That is, unless NBC decides to wait until after the final 3 episodes of the season air. With rating numbers like these, though, I am not sure that would be a help or hurt on the decision to wait. I would think help since Scott Bakula is coming back, but I also thought ratings would start climbing again by this time.

Either way, May 16 is circled on my calendar.

  7. NBC should take last nights viewership losses in Oklahoma due to the weather. I was forced to watch hulu this morning. Instead of watching Chuck live.

    • Yeah, I am in Tulsa and they took up the whole hour for severe weather coverage. It wasn’t only here though, I know it affected MO,AR, and KS as well. I don’t how big the regular viewership is in these areas but it couldn’t have helped. I still haven’t seen the new episode, work is getting in the way of what truly matters.

  8. Well, I guess it’s not too bad, but it’s not that great either. • It’s not fair if it’s only for the Nielson(sp?) box or whatever, the ratings are bound to be flat. It shouldn’t be just that one Box it should be for all the fans across the globe who watch. 🙁 not happy about this. Hope we get a fourth season.

  9. I am getting worried

I think we might be heading to cancellation…

  10. NBC must have expected a 1.9 to 2.0 for last night given recent trends. And, I doubt that Ms. Bromstad would have made the comments about Chuck that she made in that recent article if the show still needed to dramatically increase its ratings in order to survive. So, I’m still hopeful for a renewal.

    • I’m clinging to my theory that a rumour from the entertainment industry is as good as a notarized affidavit in other spheres of human activity and that in that case, Bill is right. 😉 I’ll do a reserved “woo” for now and save the “hoo” for later, as needed.

  11. A bit disappointing, but at least they didn’t drop. I wonder if they’ll see a surge in online views over the next few days, and how much that factors into their decisions.

I also noticed that the most recent episodes are available online until mid-September, which would be right around the Fall season premiere…

  12. Please o please dont let this be bad. I need a 4th season of ‘CHUCK’ or Im going to be the one going crazy, not Chuck.

  13. hi there!
    i´m writing from Portugal!
i would like to know, please, why 5/6 millions of viewers are not enough from a show like “chuck”.
anybody can help me to understand that, please? thanks 🙂

    • Unrealistic expectations. Dancing With the Stars gets 17 million viewers in the same time slot. So anything less is not good enough. (only slightly joking)

Remember before all the blockbuster U.S. movies when a $15 million opening weekend was spectacular, even $10 million was considered good? It wasn’t that long ago. Now if your film pulls in less than 100 million ON THE FIRST WEEKEND, it’s all doom and gloom, no matter what the film is.

(A recent exception to this is a documentary called “Babies” that pulled in $1 million this past weekend and is being recognized as a surprise box office hit because of that, so I guess that raises the bar on documentaries as well now.)
      😉

      • hi verkisto!
        thanks for your reply.
i totally understand your point, in fact, is perfect for me.
i may not undertand how tv works but i do read a lot about movies and yes, less then 100 millions is a “flop”.
all the best from this side of the ocean 🙂
        obrigado!!

      • Hey vitaminaChuck
its nice to see a portugal friend in here ^^
5/6 million is very high for us living in portugal because we just have a 10 million people population
but compared to the 308 million people who live in the US its nothing
You see in Portugal a 5/6 million rating would be more and less 50%
in the US its just more and less 2% (even though it would be more because not all people in the US have nielson ^^)

  14. TVBTN, a reliable source, is quoting a reliable source that Chuck got a 13 episode order with a standard back 9 option!!!!!

  15. Bill Klingaman

Wow! Chuck drew a 1.9 again last night—-last season when it’s future was uncertain it came back up to around a 2.5—–not going to happen this time.
Doesn’t matter though this show has already been renewed.

  16. It would be awkward to watch last nights episode and not know any ting about the show

  17. So it looks like we might get renewed for a season 4.

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/05/11/rumored-chuck-lives-on-with-13-episode-renewal/51147

I really hope its true Tv wouldn’t be the same for me without Chuck.

  18. IGN is also thinking Chuck got a green light for 13 Episodes with a possible back 9 by NBC.

  19. Is it possible the fairly consistent .2 drop (2.1 to 1.9) since Chuck v. The Other Guy is Shippers vanishing now that C/S are together?

  20. Carmyk, the ratings are that bad, in my opinion, mainly because of the DST. As you can see, the other shows have lower ratings too, since the DST! Here in Brazil this is very common. BUT, I’m really worried about it…since I don’t believe in rumors!!
Well, the important thing is to stay positive!! I’m shure that everything is gonna be ok in the end!!

  21. I think the show has lost it’s way and much of the humor that defined it. We don’t need a serious romantic cop show or a soap opera, but a bizarre humor show set in a funny everyday context. I hope the show gets renewed, but not unless it returns to what it was in season one.

    • I thought that, too, from 5 to 8 it lost the comedy, something was missing, probably the Buy-More
But since Morgan knows i think the show has been getting better
chuck vs the tooth was very funny though
and the romance between C/S is good for the show, too
because we dont have do worrie about “will they”, “wont they”, so that the creators can focus on the ring again and the problems with the intersect

  22. malediktmanson

Excuse me, but what is this DST everybody’s mentioning?

  23. NBC made a wise decision renewing Chuck–with the type of competition Chuck faces I do not think a replacent would have the numbers Chuck has obtained–a new show would probably be destroyed. I think Chuck will have an opportunity to acquire new viewers as long as the angst and soap opera love triangles do not reappear–the time for comedy and adventure has increased and F&S can concentrate on quality storylines. A few well placed ads can bring back the old viewers and increase the new viewers. We, the loyal viewers, can help by word of mouth. I have friends that got sick of the angst and had stopped watching the show and now I have brought them back. If we can do our part hopefully F&S can do theirs. We have got our 4, now lets expand on that!! Who knows, seasons 4,5 or 6 might have a wedding? Go C&S have a great off season and come back ready to pursue those damned evildoers!! THANKS NBC!!!!!
