Study Puts Chuck in Top 25 Content Power Rankings

According to a study released today, Chuck is one of the most powerful television shows in terms of total cross-platform audience size, advocacy and involvement. Optimedia goes beyond traditional Nielsen viewer ratings and ranks network and cable programs across TV, Web and mobile platforms. New to the study this year are two additional streams: Facebook fan count and Nielsen BuzzMetrics, both of which quantify unique aspects of digital activity: the number of “friends” TV shows have on Facebook, and the sentiment of conversations on blogs and chatrooms related to those shows. Chuck landed at #25 on their list, just behind The Big Bang Theory.

In short: while Chuck‘s weekly ratings may not be stellar, it has one of the most involved fanbases of all network and cable shows. Nice to have scientific proof of what we already knew!

  1. Good job guys! We sure showed them!(: Haha, make sure to add Chuck on your Facebook, if just for kicks and giggles.(:

  2. The “little show that could” just keeps showing how much IT CAN (and DOES)!!

    Keep on Chuckin’ everybody!!!

  3. Yup! Something we all knew already. And another thing we already knew: Neilsen is an archiac system that needs to be either revamped or discarded entirely.

  4. With studies like this one it looks like the networks are going to have to start reviewing the way they come to decisions about renewing shows. They can’t ignore the changing face of the viewing population anymore and need to look at other ways to raise revenue. It’s obvious that the internet has changed many peoples lives and networks must adapt and stop relying solely on live viewers.

    • I’ve just re-read that! I mean viewers watching live not live viewers as opposed to dead ones.

  5. Well we always knew that, but at least it’s fully recognised now!

Chuck fans won’t go down without a fight, and we can really pack a punch when we have to.

    Well done everyone!

  6. Thank you Optimedia! You proved what we’ve been always saying! CHUCK FANS ROCK!

  7. I just wish they didn’t count the reality tv shows.. -.-‘

  8. The study confirms what I already knew, that Chuck’s fans are both loyal and diverse. I have loved the show since seeing the pilot and Monday nights are Chuck nights in house as we watched it live. My wife and I are in our early 50’s and my daughter turns 18 later this month and Chuck is the only show we all watch together (Lost is the only other show that has gotten that treatment and my wife & daughter gave up after season 3). The amazing thing is how the show appeals to such a wide audience – 2 of my 6 staff watch the show faithfully (ages 23 & 54) and my 82 year old Father-in-law really likes it too.

My biggest problem is trying to get back my season 1 & 2 DVDs as they keep getting loaned out to new people LOL.

    Hopefully the renewal is offical.

  9. Nerds for the win….ohhhh yeeeaaaaahhhh.

  10. That’s the power of goodness, of a good heart and love. The show reaches out to our better natures, never panders to our lowest instincts, and never underestimates our intelligence. The better things to which the characters aspire reflect the better things we wish for ourselves and our loved ones. This show is unique among all I’ve seen over the years, and deserves its renewal.

  11. Chuck is the only TV show discussed on a USC football web site, wearesc.com It must be because it is special.
