We still have seven more weeks until Chuck season 5 premieres on NBC, but today the official Chuck page on Facebook posted our first look at the keyart for the new season. Chuck and Sarah Bartowski are not to be messed with, y’all. (Look, they’re holding hands!) Excited yet?
Updated: looks like Chuck still carries a tranq gun, and that’s the Buy More exploding in the background. Hmm…
Chuck season 5 premieres Friday, October 21 at 8/7c on NBC.
I love that they are holding hands in the picture. Can anyone tell if Chuck is holding a tranq gun or a real one? I think it’s a tranq gun but am not 100% sure.

For anyone trying to figure out if Chuck’s holding a tranq gun or a real gun, it’s definitely a tranq gun. All you have to do is look at the barrel of the tranq gun. The silver part of it and of course, the silver extension or tip. The tranq gun always has that silver tip on the end of the barrel.
I like it! Things blowing up in the background, Chuck looking all agent-y and holding hands with Sarah, both looking so serious and dangerous. It’s good! Now, did Chuck trade up his water gun for the real deal? Kinda looks that way to me.

For the first comment, I am nearly certain that is a tranq gun. Just look at the irregularity of the barrel of the gun.
I do like them holding hands and they look pretty badass, but I don’t think Sarah should be behind him. I understand it was a subtle way to centralize it around Chuck, but she is such an integral part to the show that she should be next to him like an equal instead of behind like a sidekick of sorts. I don’t know, maybe I’m just overanalyzing it.
Richard, you wouldn’t be you if you weren’t overanalyzing Sarah. 😉 If you look back over all the artwork, Sarah is always slightly behind Chuck. But she’s always there, unlike Casey who gets totally left out of the keyart.
Now I am curious to know why the BuyMore is exploding in the background. Was there a pest problem and they ultimately decided on Casey’s idea of blowing it up… again? I thought the BuyMore was going to be the hub they run their spy business out of.

This picture seems to have got more people excited about S5 than anything so far; maybe NBC has learnt something about promotion. 🙂
Yes they probably have since it’s now run by Comcast. When I first saw that picture, it was a wow. For once, key art that actually looks good. Doesn’t look really posed or anything.
I love it! Now they need to release a promo because videos always make me even more excited (but the more I’m learning about the new season, the more impatient I’m becoming).

Chuck & Sarah walking across the parking lot away from the Buy More as it explodes in the background. I’m kinda thinking the significance of this is that Chuck is finally leaving his old life behind him & stepping firmly, with Sarah, into the future and whatever it holds.
*sigh* I wish Chuck had been more popular amongst the Nielson viewers. I hate that the show had to struggle each and every year to stay afloat. So sad that’s it’s ending.
I like your analogy; Chuck and Sarah are walking away from the Buy-More, hand in hand, and they are looking in the same direction…their own personal version of walking away together towards the setting sun?

Don’t blame the Nielson viewers. Blame NBC. They kept it in that Monday timeslot that it was never capable of successfully competing in. Mondays are for shows that already have widespread established popularity, not for shows that are trying to increase their ratings. I constantly keep wondering what could have happened if Comcast had only stepped in a few years sooner. If they had, Chuck might be on auto-renewal right now instead of entering its final season. You can also blame Fedak and Schwartz a little bit because of season 3. That was supposed to be the breakout season and we all know how that went. The show lost a lot of fans that season and I don’t think the show’s ever fully recovered from it. But the important thing is that at least Fedak and Schwartz corrected their mistakes with season 4. NBC never did. They just kept it on Mondays where it shouldn’t have been. I’ve said this before: I don’t think NBC ever deserved Chuck. Chuck deserved to be on a network that had the money to promote it and the intelligence to handle it correctly. I think the new Friday time slot will increase the ratings a bit, but not that much since Friday is Friday.
I wonder if this line of thinking will still be popular once we get the ratings for The Sing-Off (airing Mondays in Chuck’s timeslot). They’ve tried other scripted shows in that timeslot with horrible results, well below Chuck’s ratings; maybe non-scripted is the answer.
this is so bittersweet. love the picture and the fact that season five is right around the corner, but the fact that this is the last season is already hitting home. hope they have a blowout season and i will never forget the super jobs that they have all done in front of and behind the camera’s. chuck rules forever…………..
Yeah I know what you mean. I half really want the season to start already but at the same time I half don’t want it to start because it’s the beginning of the end.

Wow. Like the S2 art, it borrows from Bond, but this one is just AWESOME in how it takes Chuck and Sarah and puts them in the place of Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko. The “holding hands” is a great touch, too.

@Kevan, I thought the same thing when I first saw this. Its totally a take on Quantum of Solace and I got to say that I love the homage to the Bond. Chuck and Sarah look so badass!

They get across that Chuck has truly arrived in the spy world. There isn’t even a hint of nerd in that picture. The destruction in the Buy More behind them as they walk forward towards the next danger is equally symbolic.
This almost could be the final image of the series.

Odd enough, the exploding Buy More looks exactly like the explosion at the end of Season 3. My proof? Check out the fallen sign. Exactly like the end of D3.
Yeah I noticed that quickly. When I saw the picture for the first time, it took me a few seconds to realize that was the Buy More in the background because it’s so small relative to them. Then it was like “wait a second, that explosion looks familiar…”
This is a great shot, Chuck, Sarah and an exploding Buy More–I hope explosions are covered under their insurance policy. Super promno shot!!

Really hoping that Chuck gets to “MESS” with the people at the BuyMore. For all the years he took grief from Lester, Jeff and Big Mike. Maybe a voice over the intercom that makes these guys do crazy, zany things as the mysterious owner of the BuyMore. Will Morgan have to hand the reins off to Big Mike more due to his NEW spy career as intersect?
