Today was Chuck‘s turn to wow the critics at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. Here’s what TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello had to say:
CHUCK PANEL
12:05 pm: I give this new action/comedy confection from Josh Schwartz a moderately enthusiastic thumbs up. At the very least, I hope it turns Zachary Levy into the huge star he should’ve become after Less Than Perfect.12:09 pm: Sarah Lancaster looks stunning.
12:10 pm: A reporter asks Schwartz to compare Chuck star Zachary Levy with his doomed O.C. starlet Mischa Barton. “They’re both tall and shapely.” But unlike Barton, Levy probably won’t be killed off after three seasons.
12:11 pm: “I’m not as smart as Chuck,” says Levy of his secret agent alter, “but I think I’m decently intelligent.”
12:14 pm: OK, ladies and gentleman, it’s a big moment here in Press Tour Diaryland as we hand out the first Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout Willis award! The trophy goes to the reporter who just asked Chuck co-star Adam Baldwin if he’s related to the dysfunctional Baldwin brothers Alec, Daniel, Stephen and William. Today’s winner receives free and unlimited access to TV Guide’s Movie and TV database! Congratulations!
I’m not a kid, but when there are no mirrors around, I still act like I did in college. Take away my “Cool Guy” award, I like “Chuck”. The two geniuses behind it and their writers obviously love what they’re do. It shows in every script. Not many shows can say that.
The casting is inspired, and the movement of the leads as they evolve through life and their relationships keeps it real.
I do wish they’d pay more attention to details and avoid continuity errors and nonsense like John Casey knowing the GPS tracking number of his Crown Vic. No one knows that.
Also, in this weeks episode, he meets Hanna, but has to leave her while he flies the turn-around back to LAX. Then, minutes after he arrives at the Buy More, mooning over Paris and Hanna, she shows up at the store.
Great show guys, just don’t get sloppy.
