Chris Fedak Discusses The Rest of Season 2

Alan Sepinwall, possibly the biggest Chuck fanboy out there (we’re okay with that; this site is run by fangirls 🙂 ), has an excellent interview with Chris Fedak following last night’s fantastic episode. Here’s an excerpt:

How long ago did you decide that Chuck’s father would be the creator of the Intersect?

We were on that page last season. At the earliest consideration of the show and the idea of who Chuck is, we thought about the mythology and asked ourselves: is Chuck Peter Parker or is he Luke Skywalker? Is he someone who randomly stumbled into this, or someone who was destined to get this power? For Chuck Bartowski, even though his father’s kept him away from it, that is the family business. It was a decision we made early on, going back to the conception of the series.

Well, while most of the reaction to last night’s show has been positive, there have definitely been people saying they’d much rather you stuck with the Peter Parker model.

I think the conceit of our show, going back to the Hellmouth logic of “Buffy,” is in some ways there’s a whirlpool of espionage that surrounds Chuck. It only goes so far — there won’t be a time where you find out that Ellie or Captain Awesome are spies as well — but there are things about his backstory, the idea that there was this larger story involving Stanford and Bryce and Jill, and Chuck is in some ways the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of that story. Our story is about a guy who, in most spy stories, isn’t the hero of the story, but in this crazy tale, he is.

  1. I would say I saw it coming that Stephen would be the createor of the Intersect. But it doen’t lessen the impact. CHUCK is still the story of the every-day man placed in extraordinary situations. It appears that his duty is to love of Sarah, not some mythical external source or government “thought machine”. It seems right that the son would follow the father, but now the Interset is controlled in the one mind that places family, friends and love above country. Honor still lives.

Chuck is neither Peter Parker or Luke Skywalker. Chuck is “Chuck”, with all the issues that any young man has (or that any of us ever dreamed of). He is the ture American hero, fighting for what is right while still hoping to get (the most beautiful) girl at the end. Chuck is the EVERYMAN HERO that we have always wished, dreamed and prayed that we could be.

Even if there is not a season three, Chuck, Sarah, Casey and the rest will live on in all out hopes and dreams.

If there is a season 3, all the better. For no one will look for DVD’s of “Who is Dancing with the Stars” or “American Idol” but there will always be a market for shows that help us see our dreams.

  2. Awesome! Hey Check out this vid and email it to your friends to random people…. who knows who might find it and become a chuck-a-holic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLcm1PNJiRI
