Zach Levi on ‘Chuck’ Pick Up: “Chances Are Good”

Ausiello at EW.com checked in with Zachary Levi at last night’s Star Trek premiere:

From Zachary Levi’s lips to God’s Jeff Zucker’s ears…

Chuck‘s leading man says he’s feeling optimistic that NBC will renew his spy comedy for a third season. “I think the chances are good that we’ll come back,” he said at last night’s Star Trek premiere. “But television is in a weird, fickle place right now, so you never know. We’re supposed to find out on Monday.”

That’s an eternity for Chuck‘s rabid, Subway-munching fans, many of who have been taking part in the various grassroots campaigns that have sprouted up to save the show. “It feels awesome to know we have dedicated fans,” says Levi. “People were sending the network nerds — candy ones, not human ones as that would have cost a lot more postage and there are probably some legal issues with mailing a human. They were also going out and buying Subway foot-longs because they are one of our main advertisers.

“I hope we get another season,” he elaborates. “I love being Chuck and I love the people I work. And the season finale was not meant to be the end of the series. It did not wrap it all up with a bow. They did not write it to be the end, so it would be unsatisfying to leave it there.”

Speaking of which, assuming NBC does the right thing and keeps Chuck going, what would next season look like? “Chuck now has the new version of the Intersect in his head and not only does that one allow him to flash on information, it also allows him to get physical powers and techniques,” he explains. “Like he might need kung fu for an assignment and then he uses it and it goes away. The powers are fleeting. That would be the third season.”

  1. Can someone please tell NBC that Monday night at 8pm is one of the toughest timeslots on television, if not THE toughest? Chuck is against Dancing With The Stars, The Big Bang Theory (which probably has many of the same viewers as Chuck) and House (one of the most popular shows on TV right now!) NBC obviously doesn’t realize that being able to pull in 6 million viewers during House AND Dancing With The Stars is nothing short of amazing! Move Chuck to Wednesday or Thursday at 8pm and I’m sure it would bring in MILLIONS more viewers.

  2. Better yet, move Dancing With the Stars and House (*laughs*). Sorry, I know they’re not likely to move one of the juggernaut shows but Chuck could seriously pull up in the ratings if it had a bit more of the spotlight to itself. Really—it’s a great show! And if Zachary believes that it’s coming back, so do I! *mediates* Work with me, people—positive affirmation!

Okay…now I just have to survive until the 4th…

  3. I agree, move Chuck’s time slot and I’m sure it will get more viewers! We have to TiVO Chuck so we can watch the Big Bang Theory, another funny show but also on Mondays at 8p. We also love the Office and I think moving Chuck to Thursdays at 8p, right before The Office would be an excellent move!!!

  4. I totally agree with the timeslot change! You can’t compete with the American Idol and Dancing with the Stars because people aren’t going to DVR those or watch online because they will already have heard the outcome before they can watch.
Besides the actual time slot (which is horrid), I think it is an issue that a good part of the Chuck demographic is more likely to watch TV online or DVR and less likely to be Nielson viewers (e.g. college students, grad students, young professionals). Most of my friends watch Chuck online on Tuesdays. They never miss an episode, but never watch live. The networks need to start including online viewership in the ratings rather than primetime viewing alone when they determine a show’s true popularity!

Chuck is the best show that no one knows about, despite two fantastic seasons. If Chuck gets a third season, all of us fans have a whole summer to get our friends hooked…

  5. According to EW.com this morning- decision may not be made by Monday??? Are they trying to destroy me?

And I completely agree on the Monday at 8pm timeslot comment. It really is doing well considering…

  6. Keep the pressure on; keep those letters and eMails going out to NBC. Now is not the time to give up. Keep viewing online at NBC.com and hulu.com. Order another dvd set and give it to friends to pass around. Write or eMail your local NBC affiliate. If we want CHUCK s3 we’ll have to earn it.

  7. Keep sending in letters and Nerds. If you have a receipt for subway send in a copy.

  8. Chuck is one of the few shows I’ll go out of my way to watch. It’s a really well written, well acted, entertaining comedy action. It’s a real rarity, and NBC would be foolish to cancel this show.
