SciFi Wire: Why fewer episodes will be better for Chuck’s new season

This article by SciFi Wire ties in nicely with a recent one done here at ChuckTV.

Love to have you back!
"Love to have you back!"

From the article:

“To be perfectly honest, I think 13 episodes is a great season,” Levi said in an exclusive interview on Aug. 5 in Pasadena, Calif. as part of the Television Critics Association fall press tour. “I think that cable does it right. They’ve always done it right. I think that network television has done 22 for a long time and sometimes more. That’s the tradition, but I feel like [in] 22 episodes, even the best shows end up with a few episodes that are a little soft around the middle. They’re not what the fans would really want to chomp into, so I say 13, rock ‘n’ roll, make it lean and mean.”

  1. He said this before in some other interview – maybe it was the same interview only on video that I saw. All I’ve got to say is if a 13 episode of S3 will bring us a 13 episode S4, I’ll take it. Better tohave two more 13 episode seasons than only one more of 22!

    But on this subject, why does it have to be 13 or 22. Why not like 16? That wouldn’t be “too fat.”

  2. Father Rick;

    I’ve asked the same question myself. It’s time to break with tradition. NBC seems to be heading down that road witha ll the ideas about an extended run into the summer months, etc. Time will tell.

  3. I agree with ya Rick, I would love 22 or 20 but 18 or even 16 would make me and many many others happy. 13 is just not enough, I cant even count how many times I’ve watched the full S1 dvd set in just one day and still want more (so I watch it again and again, it never gets old)! To spin on a Morgan phrase, “…13 ep isn’t a meal, it’s hardly an appitizer for god sake…”

  4. I think 22 episodes is better. I like the backstories, even Jeff’s. We are sort of living season to season right now so any footage we get is good stuff.

  5. I was reading on Nick C blog, that the back 9 looks like a good possibility because they want to use Chuck to lead in to a new show in the summer.
    While I agree that 13 Episodes if it leads to a S4 would be good (I’ll take what I can get) the idea of running an extra 9 episodes in the summer I think would work quite nicely. It might even make Chuck stronger going into a S4.
    I know there have been times in the past where I have watched a show in the summer that I didn’t watch during the regular season and found myself hooked on it.

  6. I don’t know why Zac Levi feels that way about 13 episodes. I enjoyed all of season 2 with all the back stories, it was fantastic! Please produce 22 episodes for season 3! I am like a junkie, I need my Chuck fix.

  7. Why do we settle for so few? At one stage pretty much all weekly TV shows were 26 episodes. I don’t know about you but I know I’d love a job where I only had to work ten to thirteen weeks a year.
    Oh well, as long as they keep making it as it is the best thing on TV for a damn long time.

  8. I have to say I have watched at least one ep of season one or two per day since the end of season two. I think they do have an ep or two where an episode was weak but in comparison with most other shows you could say there were no weak stories. Besides how am I going to get my CHUCK fix next fall if they run out of episodes? The hard drive on my PVR is just about worn out where the shows sit …. go job I have them on DVD as well 🙂
