This week’s Friday Five comes from a special guest poster: Vik Sahay submits his five favorite Lester moments. From the set of his new film, Afghan Luke and The Burgundy of Hash, currently filming in Canada Vik writes, “It may not come as a huge surprise, but 3 of the 5 top Lester moments for me, are about rock ‘n roll.
- The singing of ‘Africa’. First song. Birth of ‘Jeffster!’. Plunging into the unknown…
- ”Mr. Roboto’. Jeffster! starts to play bigger and bigger venues…from their desk at the Buy-More to Awesome and Ellie’s wedding. Lester begins to find a flamboyant stage persona. Gets called an ‘Indian Lesbian’.
- ‘Fortunate Son’. Lester redefines center-stage when his rock anthem ignites a revolution. He blossoms into his full rock-star glory.
- Lester almost convinces Jeff that Jeffster! shouldn’t be and ‘Africa’ shouldn’t be sung, by fast-forwarding to his tragic demise, with the following quote, “Yeah, sure it’s going to blow their minds, but uh, where does all this lead? Stadium, groupies, creative differences? And then what? Jeffster breaks up? That’s you and me, Jeff! And then what’s my fate? Some chambermaid finds me in some hotel room having accidentally asphyxiated while making love to myself! It’s not worth it! “
- Fight Club. Lester channels Tyler Durden, and inspires a cult of masculinity within the Buy More.
Obviously, there are many many more, but at this moment, at this time, in this minute, these are the ones that grab me.”
Are those your standout Lester moments? I’m still partial to Lester turning parcheesi into a gambling tournament. Also, in case you missed the link above, Vik has an official Facebook page now!
Surely, Leter’s attempt to ask Sarah out and her subsequent play on him has to be there someplace, lol.
Indeed – a classic bit.
absolutely. priceless.
Your right this scene is definitely one of the best Lester scenes ever.
Definitely a Classic!
Hi Mel and everyone:
This is an interesting Friday Five. Lester is one of my favorite characters. Thinking of his top five moments was a little challenging, but here are mine.
1. In a rare moment of kindness, he supports Jeff with being the Top Missile Command player in the world. Of course, this was Chuck vs. Tom Sawyer.
2. This span over a few episodes but, his tenure as Assistant Manager. His “diplomatic” skills were extremely unique with the Buy More crowd. He lasted longer in the position than I thought.
3. Yes, his singing moments are unforgettable, but the Africa song was extremely memorable. He was great combining being a little scared with later gaining confidence as the song progressed. As you mentioned, “the birth of Jeffster.”
4. In a rare moment of bravery, he tries to disarm that Fulcrum agent, in Chuck vs. Santa Clause. Assuming it wasn’t a stunt double, he was pretty funny getting Karate chopped by the Fulcum agent.
5. As you stated in the latest Podcast, when he took advantage of a situation when he threatened to sue when he was attacked by John Casey. He humilated John at the Subway. I am sure that will come back to haunt him.
If I remember correctly they’re about even now… Casey did hypnotize him a while back.
Wheel of Misfortune. Not so much a Vik Sahay shining moment but beyond the shadow of a doubt Lester in all his glory.
My all-time fave is in season 1 when he hits on Sarah at the Wienerlicious the day after she gets dumped by Chuck. Watching Yvonne hop like a cat of prey onto the lunch counter was priceless. I think it stands out in my mind because I remember it as a rare comedic moment for her. I mean she actively participated in the comedy rather than her ususal MO of straight man or passive bystander in the comic scenes. To pair her up with Vik, who clearly has serious comic chops, was very cool. I’d like to see her do more comedy and less angst. She has the essentials to be a good comic actress, especially the expressive face.
When he was store manager hosting the big party at the buy more and freaking out. Playing dreydel at the holiday party and ripping everyone off. To name a qoute, “I’m so lonely”. The funniest moment of the season by far was when Chuck “accidentally” kicked Lester in the face. Helping Big Mike find a date online. “Repulsion is our business” I think saya it all.
accidentally asphyxiated… accidentally asphyxiated… accidentally asphyxiated…
Sweet mother of all things!
I am going to hurt somebody’s feelings!
“Next hire, I want you to find me a wife. A woman of color, preferably Padma Lakshmi.”
Season 3 has been sparse with Lester-ism and Jeff-ism…bummer.
