SPOILERS: Ausiello’s Chuck Finale Scoop

On this week’s Ausiello TV, Michael gives us a little more scoop on the Chuck season finale (aka “the most incredible episode of television ever produced”): not only is there a significant death and two game-changing (drink!) twists, but there’s also a new romance blossoming. What can we speculate from the context and phrasing of this scoop? To me it sounds like we already know both characters, so it’s not someone new. Could Jellie fans finally be getting their day in the sun? Does Carina come back for Morgan? Does Lester hook up with Jeff’s sister?

P.S. Love that Ugly Betty‘s Michael Urie is Ausiello’s “new assistant”. Hilarious.

  1. Hmmm. Only 3 regular female characters on the show (does Beckman count?). Two are pretty much taken. Can’t be Jellie unless… hey wait a minute. Sorry Devon, lol.

  2. well that doesnt sound overly promising for capt awesome…..

  3. oh my God, don’t let Awesome die!!!!

  4. Well, if you don’t read too much into the “new” line it could be a return of Anna/Morgan. Or, it could be Casey/Casey’s former fiance who’s name escapes me.

  5. I agree with Mel. From the wording it sounds like two existing characters. And if this is a romance that is intended to carry forward into S4, it would almost have to involve Sarah, Beckman, or Ellie. I don’t see them adding a cast member.

Sarah is show suicide. I’m not even going to consider that. Unless, of course, Chuck really does go crazy in Tooth and Sarah falls for his alternate personallity.

Beckman is just wrong. On so many levels really. Who could she pair up with? Jeff?

    That leaves Ellie.

I think mathematically, it’s proven. Devon is toast, lol.

    • Why does the romantic interest have to be one of the ladies???

To me the most obvious choice would be Casey reconnecting with Kathleen.

    • @armynurseboy. Casey & Kathleen is my choice too. I’d love it if it happened.

  6. IF its Ellie and Devon is dead, man that is not cool. They’ve been together forever and for Ellie to immediately move on to someone else, not awesome!

Its going to be Jeff and Lester haha

  7. I’ve always thought that Devon was a good candidate for the major death.

Eliminates a cast member. That’s good for the budget.

Morgan has taken his place as the one who knows Chuck’s secret.

It frees up Ellie for her own romance stories. And it sets up Chuck having to protect her even more. One of the things that we’ve always wanted was more Sarah / Ellie bonding. This would be a good way.

    • But but but but but but but but but…
if awesome dies then the only comody comes from:
      A. Buymore
      or
      B. Morgan failing at being a spy
morgan will have already failed and they are running out of seasons for chuck to stay in Burbank unless sarah gets pregnent. Anna comes back to tell morgan that she got pregnent before they broke up and the New romance “Blossming” could be Mini Grimes and Mini Bartowski.

      • guys it can be Ellie cause it would undo that perfect wedding and “christmas tv” sound track

  8. I like the idea that Carina comes back because it is always fun with her there. I know if Sarah dies, then the show is no longer watchable. I hope Ellie and Awesome stay because Awesome is just great and Ellie is like a mother figure for Chuck. I think the people who get killed off is either Chuck’s dad or Anna (Don’t know why she is back, so I am curious). The new relationship is with Morgan and Anna or Carina. Although Carina is too cold-hearted to fall in love (we know how that turns out). I hope none of the main characters get killed off. Maybe Beckman gets killed, but she has a minor role. I think maybe one of the guest stars come back and get killed in a manner that changes the whole perspective of the show.

  9. Wow, Gossip girl has some horrible acting. Cab’t believe I had to sit through that to get to the Chuck stuff.

    • I agree about GG. I’ve never seen it, and thanks to that clip, I’ll make sure that always remains true.

    • Yeah. And Ed Westwick and Leighton Meester are actually the two worthy actors on that show.

  10. I consider Chuck’s dad a major character…sure, he’s not in the opening credits and has only appeared in three episodes, but s it’s Papa B!

Orion has always been a huge character- without him there would be no Chuck or no intersect. Plus it says significant death: when Bryce left, Bomer had his own show in the works. Bakula has a hit show on TNT now. I’m worried it will be him. His loss would devastate both Ellie and Chuck and Sarah, Morgan, Awesome and Casey would all be affected by it as well.

I’d love for Morgan to get a new leading lady- someone besides Anna. Their romance always felt driven by a storyline, not real emotions like Chuck and Sarah.

As for Awesome, he is the most expendable. They can’t kill Chuck or Sarah. Baldwin has the most fans so he’s safe. Killing Ellie or Morgan would push the show and Chuck into a dark area that I doubt it would return from. Killing Jeff or Lester or Big Mike would be pointless. Even Beckman’s death wouldn’t propel the show into too many new directions. But Awesome’s death, as sad as it would be, would open the canvas of the show in a new direction. Still, my vote is Chuck’s dad.

    • If I were a betting man, I’d go with what you said. Morgan needs a new love interest, Chuck’s Dad is an expendable character, and killing one of Ellie, Awesome, Sarah, or Morgan would change the entire tone of the show. The only other person I could see is a valiant John Casey, disappearing into the night to certain death but for the greater good…’cause that’s the only way he’d go.

      • I could see “John Casey” dying in the finale….and some dude named Alex hooking up with Kathleen.

    • How about a sweet romance between Morgan Grimes and Casey’s daughter. That should be enough to make Casey’s head explode.

    • All good ideas, Jeff. I had worried for awhile that they would attempt to kill Morgan, but I think that would be entirely too dark and the Casey/Morgan pairing looks too wonderful to allow that to happen.

They’ve already shown in the previews that Awesome has been injured somehow, and as much as I’d hate to see Ryan McPartlin go, it would really force Chuck’s hand to reveal his true identity to Ellie. From my standpoint, this has the potential to be the most emotional moment the show has ever produced. If Ellie loses Awesome and THEN hears her brother, the kid she practically raised alone, has been lying to her all this time…well, I suspect she’s not going to take the truth as well as Morgan did. And then Chuck will not only have to deal with the aftermath of killing Shaw, he’ll take on the responsibility of his brother-in-law’s death, too.

And BTW, this may be a non-issue, but on the NBC “Chuck” site, was McPartlin ever listed as a cast member? Because if he was, he isn’t now.

As for blowing away Daddy, that would also make sense, but he hasn’t been around all season, and frankly, I think it wouldn’t have as much of an emotional punch. Also, it seems that there is more of the Bartowski family story to tell, and I suspect we might still want Daddy around for that from time to time.

My vote, sadly, is for Awesome.

      • One more thing about Awesome. He has been TERRIFIED for his and Ellie’s life this season. I think this counts as foreshadowing.

    • Morgan dies. Mark it down. You heard it here first. I’ll bank on it.

  11. Sorry Orion
i would kill you over Awesome anyday. Mabye Papa B and Casey’s widowed but not widowed fiance. as Jeff above said Chuck, sarah, casey, morgan, and ellie are off limits. Awesome, Orion, jeff, Lester, and Big mike are good to go. i would prefer jeff because he is getting alittle disturbing with his comments and it could be some thing like he got high and thried to help the wrong Brother out. anna Dead would work but if that is true Julia ling cant catch a break. Big mike dead would devistate all the buymorians and expecaly morgan. lester i like and cant die. if somone can verifie that Awesome is not going to die then i can sleep soundly tonight.

  12. It says that the new romance blossoms in the final episode the same episode the significant death occurs in. If awesome is the significant death I don’t think they would have ellie with a love interest so soon. And If Awesome was the significant death i don’t think they would show awesome nearly dying in the promo.

  13. Significant death, still think it’s Orion. Nothing has changed my mind about that.

Game-changing twists 1 and 2: Who knows? I still like the idea of Shaw putting a computer virus into the Intersect, creating delusional/illusional problems with Chuck and reality.

Or maybe the Ring has its own Intersect now, as well, and Chuck suddenly has a competitor who is skilled, trained, and a Cray-powered, seasoned veteran spy to his Windows Vista, not-so-seasoned spyness?

Or the Buy-More gets bought out by another chain! Uh-oh!

Romance: Morgan is my money bet. Maybe it’s Carina, maybe it’s Hannah (“Hey, Chuck! Remember Hannah? She’s my girlfriend now…”). Can’t really call Morgan and Anna (Morganna?) a new romance, they’ve already been down that road.

Long-shot would be Casey, but I can’t see him getting back with his Tic-Tac lady, so not too confident about that one.

  14. To me, the romance is obvious: Morgan and Beckman.

  15. Liz ( not Liz of Mel and Liz) =0)

Just wondering…..significant death, that might not necessarily mean a regular cast member that dies does it? Maybe it means that the death of someone or perhaps something is of great significance to a regular cast member.
And I must haved missed something because I don’t know who you are referring to when you say “Jellie”??

  16. If they kill off Awesome or Ellie, that could set up a nice Season 4 story arc.

Chuck going out for revenge and maybe even going rague needing Sarah and Casey to cover for him.

It could add another twist to the story.

  17. maybe Justin dies. And don’t forget that Beckman does have a romance history. Remember Roan Montgomery? And maybe Alex Forrest (49B) comes back. Her and Casey were ‘a match made in a very frightening part of heaven.’ 🙂

  18. Firstly, it is unlikely that the significant death will be either Ellie or Awesome. They represent the ‘normal’ life of a couple that plays counterpart to Chuck & Sarah’s anything but normal relationship in the same manner that the BUY MORE contrasts with the spy world.

Secondly, I believe that the significant death will be at the hands of Chuck, his first kill. What! you say? His first kill WILL be Shaw. There are hints aplenty that Routh is in the finale, and what would be more significant than Chuck having to pull the trigger in a premeditated fashion? That would be most satisfying, as we all hate Shaw and will be happy to see him go down again for all the grief he put us through in season 3.

    • hopelessromantic3

huh. That is an interesting theory, and I can completely see that happening.

      • we all seem to hate Shaw… is it because his superman was bad, or something else about him that bothers us??? I immediately disliked him when chuck walked in on him in that office while trying to save awesome… but that prolly had something to do with superman returns…

  19. The significant death could be “Big Mike”. This would open the managerial slot for Morgan. Since Morgan is now part of Team Bartowski, Chuck and Casey would be free to engage in CIA activities without having to lie to higher-ups about where they’re going. To complete the picture of Morgan being in the spy loop, the new romance could be Morgan-Carina. He’s the only man who ever told her “no” and she can’t resist him now. The character is a fan favourite so it would do well to have her back.

  20. My guesses are:

    *Significant Death: Papa B
    *Romance: Morgan and Anna

…although I do think that Mama B will be making an appearance in the finale, not the return of Shaw.

  21. How about the romance being Anna Wu and Casey… he did like the way she moved in her first cage fight. And the significant death could be Chuck’s mom. After all she is the leader of the Ring.

  22. Casey’s daugther walks in the Buy More to buy a beastmaster, Casey hides so something has to cover for him and so she meets Skip?… Lester?… Morgan?

  23. I don’t think Beckman will be killed. If she is, there leaves no one to control the NSA/ team Bartowski. Graham was killed in season 2 b/c he had another show. Therefore, I think the character killed will be someone significant who has another show like Orion.

    • Could be. It’s always about availability and money. Still thinking Shaw though.

      • Well since we all assume Shaw is dead, when he returns he will be part of the ring. Therefore he will be viewed as another bad guy, like Ted Roark, and his death would not surprise me. In my opinion, significant also means surprising (especially to ppl who don’t keep up with forums, spoilers, etc.) Shaw’s return will be a surprise but since he is returning as a bad guy, and most likely the titular bad guy of the season finale, his death will be expected and about as significant as Ted Roarks in season 2. I still believe the death to be Stephen Bartowski, as it would be both surprising to viewers, and a significant change in the storyline that can help launch a season 4.

      • Anyone else think that the significant death will be Chuck in name only. This show loves parallel plot structures and this issue will be rehashed later in the season with Casey (Casey was Alex). The way this show operates, I believe the death of a supporting character is too dark. In addition, this would be a “game changer” and allow Chuck and Sarah to have a new life elsewhere. I am sure the writers can orchestrate an effective plot device to pull Chuck and Sarah back into the fold next season.

      • It’s possible. However in an interview with Fedak, he mentioned that there would be multiple cliffhangers to end the season, hopefully to have the same effect as last season (a renwal), I don’t see how the can squeeze killing the name chuck and pilling him back to the spy world within an hr without making it feel rushed or poorly developed.

  24. Can’t be Awesome that dies, at least based on what Ryan McPartlin says in this interview about being back for a fourth season http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwrap/ryan_mcpartlin_V6KUhRZuGo4salQWAGj3EJ

My guess it that the significant death is Papa B. That would cause the main characters to reinvest their energy in fighting a resurgent “Ring”. Especially Chuck and Sarah who both seem more ready to move on to a “normal life” now that they’re a couple.

  25. Another guess about “the romance”: Mama Bartowski appears out of nowhere and rekindles the flames with Papa B.

  26. I thought Papa B gets killed off when Mama B comes back as a baddie. She is also the one who causes Chuck harm.

Can’t remember when that spoiler came out, but between the two spoilers, this story line is starting to make more and more sense.

New romance is just Anna and Morgan, again. (That is my best guess).

  27. The 5 spoilers that Mel(?) posted said that Jeffster was breaking up… maybe that is a green light for the major death?

  28. Considering what Casey/Alex did to Kathleen, I don’t know how she could possibly forgive him. After all, he faked his own death just so he could get the job of his dreams. He wasn’t facing a military discharge when he gave up his old life, he was simply told that he would have to remain a lieutenant for the time being.
I think that Kathleen should tell Casey to go to hell, but will not prevent him from getting to know his daughter. If he’s going to become involved with another woman, he’d be better off with someone like Ilsa. At least she knows what kind of deception he’s capable of.

  29. Not sure if anyone’s seen the latest Ausiello wrapup tonight, but he has downgraded “Chuck’s” renewal chances to “could go either way.” Not good.

  30. Hi i am a first time poster, my opinions on the finale:

    1. Mayor death: Mama B will be the head of the Ring and chuck will have to kill him which explains the article about chuck grief because Ellie will never know. Also because the writers like double meaning to title i think it will also have the death of Sarah Walker as she becomes Sarah Bartowski.

    2. Romance blossoming: Morgan and Anna. Anna is now a NSA agent which is why she broke up in Hawaii (to do her training) and is now Morgan’s handler with Casey. Also could see Casey and Kathleen together to show Casey’s progression in the real world.

  31. Maybe the “significant death” is Mama B. Meaningful, but doesn’t change the established cast.

  32. JELLIE, FTW!!! Now don’t get me wrong, I love Awesome and don’t want him to die, but “if” he and Ellie were to have trouble, I would be quite happy with Casey stepping in. “If” Awsome died (or “died” and became someone else like Alex/Casey did) I’d so love the Jellie.

  33. If it’s Jellie, I’m going to throw up :s

I really hope it’s Casey reconnecting with his former fiancé and his daughter.

Please don’t mess with Mr and Mrs Awesome!!!

  34. I had read that Casey gets shot at some point. Does he die? I don’t know. I don’t think it would be wise to off Casey. He is a staple of the show and brings a lot of viewers to the table. I also read something from Adam Baldwin which stated the Casey/Kathleen (ex-fiance) situation would “play out to it’s logical conclusions” (or something along those lines).

    My guess:

    1) the romance is between Casey & Kathleen
    2) the significant death (which doesn’t imply a regular cast member) is Orion. We know he’s back on the show and, if something I read about Chuck’s mother being the leader of the Ring is true, I could see this ending with the death of Chuck’s father.

P.S. Where did that comment about Chuck’s mother being the leader of the Ring come from? Someone up the thread made the comment. Where did you resource that?

  35. as unfortunately as it sound i think we’ll see shaw coming back like Larkin but a new Shaw evil side with the ring intersect in the head. The one that might Die i think it’s papa B, Killed by Shaw. That would mess up the Whole crew and would give a Great open up on Season 4 if Chuck Sarah Casey snd Morgan are chasing Shaw. on a funnier note i like the idea of Morgan getting a lady in his life and which Lady would be teh best for a Brand new spy in Training, Another Spy that know the drill of Spy life “Carina” that would be Awesome!!!! =D
