NBC just announced that they’re launching a new social media rewards program called Fan It on Monday, May 17. NBC touts Fan It as “an unprecedented custom-built network wide affinity program that provides exclusive incentives and rewards for fans in return for promoting, interacting with and discussing all of the network’s new and returning 2010-11 programs.” Fan It will integrate social media platforms including NBC’s own myNBC as well as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and FourSquare. As users earn points they will be able to redeem them for a variety of rewards including: exclusive access to early previews of new and returning shows, NBC merchandise, discounts at the NBC store, show-themed virtual goods and badges and entry into a sweepstakes to win huge show-related prizes.
Of particular interest to Chuck fans is that NBC cites Mission: Chuck Me Out, a social media game that launched in January, as the successful template for this new program. Once again, Chuck fans are making an impact!
Hey, Chuck fans are changing the social fabric. I think that’s worth, let’s say, a 22 episode Season 4, don’t you? 😉
22 episodes. that´s the deal.
i cant imagine something like, again, 13 plus possible 9.
not a good sign for the people working in the show. sounds bad, pressure.
16, thats the day…
Can we exchange our rewards for numbers added to the viewing figures? I mean will NBC take this into consideration when deciding whether a show should be renewed. That would really be a step forward in recognising the changing shape of the viewing public.
I actually don’t like the concept. I’m all for fans promoting Chuck, but when you put a reward system on that it seems like a conflict of interest. Without the reward, people know that those promoting Chuck are doing it because they actually believe the show is great. With the reward, it’s just another advertisement to tune out.
I get what you’re saying, but wanted to note that this new program is not JUST for Chuck, it’s for all of their shows, including shows on SyFy, USA and Bravo.
Interesting idea they have… and One I was actually mulling over. Perhaps the Mighty Chuck-Nation could achieve its goal for increased viewers and renewal by being walking, talking ads for NBC? We shamelessly promote Chuck – not but so much the host network… Nothing says LOVE like lots of creative – FREE publicity/ advertizing.
I personally suggest they reward us by putting on Jeffster concerts all over the country. That’d do it.
Oh, and a full 22 ep season 4, rather than 13 + back 9, of course.
I love this idea! I want to win that Jeffster! World Tour tshirt I’ve been eyeing. 🙂
