GeekTyrant is reporting that our own Zachary Levi auditioned for a role in the new Superman reboot coming from Warner Bros. They don’t know which role, but suspect that it was Clark Kent himself. Ironic considering Brandon Routh last held the job, isn’t it? Official confirmation isn’t forthcoming, so they’re treating this as a rumor for now, but also say that their sources are solid. What do you think? Would Zac make a good Superman? Or would you cast him in another role?
Also in the report is the rumor that Jonathan Nolan, brother of The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, is attached to direct.
Thanks to OD for the head’s up!
Sounds intriguing. Zac would bring an interesting vibe to the character, what with all the nervous boyish charm alternating with the calm determination. (And howsabout Yvonne as Lois Lane? That could be fun.)
I don’t think that he would be a great superman because he would have to bulk up quite a bit and he would have to change his hair again. he also doesnt seem sierous enough. i though brandon did a great job as superman. also lois lane has to be a brunette and i don’t know if that would work for yvonne.
Wigs make it all possible. Remember brunette Yvonne in “the Truth” and “the Ex”?
The best wig was in Ring Part II!
Hi,
all I know is I would watch it 10 times!
Actually, the most important thing any actor has to do is to draw you in emotionally. Christopher Reeve did that, and his success in the role had nothing to do with his bulk. We know that Zac has an incredible talent for drawing you in.
This is especially critical with the Superman character, because he is invincible — since we’re not invincible, we need another way to relate to him, and that comes from his awkwardness in “real life” situations, which we can all relate to.
I think Zac would bring a freshness, realness, and vulnerability to the character. He hasn’t exerted his serious side in Chuck and Less Than Perfect because that’s just not who the character was, but I think we’ve seen enough in the Intersect 2.0 that makes me believe he could do it.
Of course, I’m absolutely biased. 😉

Well, with this “serious side” thing I must say that I completely disagree because of course even tough Chuck always remains a comedy show, the drama blasts you away emotionally (especially Season 3).
Zac certainly has the acting chops to pull the role off. He would kill the Clark Kent side of the role and I bet he would surprise many on the Superman side.
The biggest challenge would be for Zac to attain the proper bulk which other actors have done before.
I think Zac is a talented enough actor that he could totally take on this role with class and a fresh taste, but to be honest, I’m not sure if I’d want him to do it. The last “reboot” didn’t do so well, and if this one isn’t able to hit it completely out of the park, it could really hurt his career.
He obviously needs to do what he feels is best, but I hope that the roles he picks are on projects that will lift him up, not projects HE has to lift up. Does that make sense?
Either way, I know he’ll do great in whatever role he takes on.
hi everybody|
if its true, it´s awesome to see zach levi making an audition for the role.
tim burton once choose nicolas cage and it was strange but that kind of surprise is always a good thing, although john krasinski, for “captain america” was way more strange :))
zach may have to work out a bit more 🙂
in episode “chuck vs the final exam” already use the famous glasses, so… :))
him can do it, for sure, but i don´t think its for zach…
chuck, the man of steel :))
I dont care if he plays superman or not. I’d go watch that movie a 1000 times just because hes in it. lol
Why is this even news worthy? There is not a single hint whether he’s in the running for the role. Tells us when he gets the role or even in the running.
whether he gets the role or not, i hope the superman reboot is about superman being a kick ass invincible who uses his strength to fight someone of equal strength, an all out brawl, Back then it wasn’t a good idea due to budget and graphical limitations but now look at all the other action comic movies. this is no longer an excuse. No more Brain (Lex) vs brawns (superman)… just straight up man on man action…
I totally agree with Gray. Zac definitely has the qualities for Superman a la the Chris Reeve rendition (which was the best in my opinion). He showed a lot of range in the S3 and definitely has the skills to pull of that kind of role. He’s definitely got the looks! I’m also quite biased though, I’d probably think he was brilliant reading the dietary information on the side of a cereal box. If he’s in it, I’ll go see it.
Ditto to Phillymom2 and Gray – I don’t think we’ve seen the range of drama capability out of Zac yet and I definitely think he could pull Superman off. And of course, I’m biased as all the rest of you and would watch it a 1000 times. I think the one aspect of S3 that really appealed to me was the more serious side of Chuck and am hoping that S4 allows him to stretch those acting muscles this year.
As far as rebooting Superman – Christopher Reeves was certainly the best so far – but then look at what Christian Bale did for the reboot of Batman – a far, far cry from Michael Keaton.
Please keep us posted on the “rumor,” would definitely be “newsworthy” to me!!
It’s being reported as confirmed on Crimson Monkey
That blog is only reporting what we posted above: It’s confirmed that Zac auditioned for a role in the film, not which part or whether or not he landed the role.
Sorry, misread the original. Somehow I read it as meaning the audition itself was a rumour, rather than which part he was trying out for.
I think he should audition for a villain. He shouldnt be typecast as the “geeky good guy with potential”.
I think he could be a brilliant villain. He was convincingly obnoxious on that other show (Less than perfect).
Anyone unsure of his acting chops or ability to play “serious” should check out the movie Spiral. He’s phenomenal in it and very different to many of the characters he’s played, Chuck included.
I hope he gets the part, whatever it is!
Amazing actor….awesome guy in real life…But hope he doesnt get the part,he would not make a great Superman one bit.Maybe pass as a Clark Kent, but no Superman…sorry.Cant wait for season 4
He would probably be awesome as Superman, but I’d like to see him play the villain in the new Superman movie. I’m not sure if he’s played the bad guy before, but I got a feeling that he would be a magnificent bastard.
It would be interesting to say the least. He would be outstanding as Clark Kent. I’m just not sure how he’d pull off the transition to Superman. But it goes without saying that I would definitely watch!
Grrrr!!! i super hate superman, all because it ruined season 3 with all of the brandon routh crap
i think that he would make a great villain and i have a hunch that, that might be what he is after… hmmm but which super villain could he be??? im thinking maybe General Zod. now that would be awesome!
I could see him more likely in the role of Jimmy Olsen, but if he did get the role of superman he would definitely need to bulk up. He wouldn’t be the first actor to do that.
I do wonder how a Bulked up Zac would look as Chuck though. He wouldn’t exactly fit the nerd profile.
