Chuck season 4 has a premiere date – September 20 – and a few tidbits of information have started to leak about the season premiere episode, so let’s turn our attention now to the storylines we’d like to see in season 4. Gambs, a frequent commenter on the blog, sent in his list of five plots he’d like to see on the show:
- What has Mama B been doing all these years and where has she been?
- Band on the Run – Jeffster are on the lam after being accused of burning down the Buy More.
- A Chuck-Sarah engagement – Will the next mission in which they play a married couple be for real?
- Algon – Are Alex and Morgan secretly dating behind Casey’s back? Â What happens when he finds out?
- New addition – Are Awesome and Ellie due to be parents soon?
I definitely want to know what Mama B has been up to for the last decade, but I’d swap out the Jeffster plot for finding out what Orion has been collecting information about in his basement all these years. Even better if it results in a legitimate season-long villain for Team Bartowski to contend with. How about you? What storylines would you pitch for season 4?
Sarah’s family background. We know about the father. What about her mother?
Yes lets see Moma Walker as well as the sister mentioned at the beginning of Wookie.
Of course the name wont be Walker – we know her first name is Sam, and her middle name is Lisa. What will be her last name?
Not really important to me, but if they did have Moma Walker come to town, we would find out. Then again maybe not – she could have remarried, and maybe Sarah will be going by the last name Bartowski by the time she shows up. So the discrepency in the last name is never noticed by anyone.
I agree. I want to hear about Sarah’s mom and supposed sister. Though, sister could have just been a cover, but doubt it.
I was wondering if the sister isn’t going to be the DEA agent who has popped up twice before? Is everyone else thinking the same? I think it’s be great to make the link and see a bit more of Sarah Walker’s background.
I have to think that bringing up Chuck’s mother will open the door to at least mention Sarah’s mother since she has not been mentioned in anyway whatsoever in the series so far.
I’ve got another one! How about will Chuck & Sarah move into the old Bartowski house and how/when does Chuck tell Sarah & Casey about what’s under the house? Also, Morgan can’t live by himself because of money…would he move in with Casey….or Alex? Either would be very entertaining.(Morgan & Alex dating behind Casey’s back?!?)Counting days!! I’d suggest this instead of Ellie & Devon becoming parents even though that would definitely complicate things.
That is what I was thinking too. It would only make sense for Chuck & Sarah to move into the Bartowski house.
Leaving Morgan with a vacancy. Maybe Alex could move in.
I don’t think Chuck can stay out of the CIA for the rest of the show I think he will rejoin.
I so agree!!
being a spy is in the Bartowski bloodline, but of course except Ellie.
So Chuck would obviously rejoin the gang.
I’ll be interested to see how Sarah and Casey reconcile their status as government agents with Chuck’s (apparent) position of being a freelance/vigilante agent.
Note: This might come through as a double post, as my internet cut out just as I was finishing posting this first one and I thought it might not have gone through. Oops! 😀
sarah’s full name.It is Sam Lisa (what?)?
I don’t think her first is Sam but her middle name is Lisa….and Sarah will finally reveal it to Chuck after her proposes to her or even at their end of season wedding….
I so hope that happens, that would be so awesome!!
Mel,
Thanks for publishing my list. I wasn’t sure if you had received it or not.
I am looking forward to hearing what other fans want to see this season.
Great list. I’d love to see 1, 2, and 4 happen. Especially 4. Also – since the Buy More is toast, literally, I think it’d be hilarious if someone (Morgan?) actually went to work at Underpants Etc. in the mall. Right?!
But Morgan has been fired from Underpants Etc.Perhaps we could see some flashbacks.
All valid points I’d like to see (especially #3 and 4). If Chuck and Sarah are getting engaged, I’d like to see that happening near the end of the season, though.
I could go on forever concerning five plotlines I’d like to see, so I’ll just stick with the one that interests me most- what is the new cover story going to be, and how is it implemented across Team Bartowski? Since Chuck (and crew, presumably) are out of the CIA/NSA nexus, and the Buy More is no more, how are they going to explain all of the monetary/tactical resources which Orion left to them?
“I just happened to walk in to a house filled with cash, weapons and supercomputers.”
“I won the lottery.”
“NORAD was having a sale.”
Surely the PTB will have some humorous solution to the issue.
Great points I think Chuck will for aleast a few episodes will be going on his own missions whilst looking for a job, clashing with Sarah and CIA missions.
Sarah finally discovers what hes been up to perhaps mid season…..
I think Morgan and Alex relationship will be fun. Colonel Casey shrunk from his responsibility as a father, but then manned up and it will be interesting to see how it affects him going forward; I hope that the relationship is not merely played for laughs between Morgan and Casey.
Since the titular member of Team Bartowski is no longer on the team, how does that affect things? Maybe Chuck will go to work as a contractor. But then what is the cover story? Who are the people that Orion was shielding Chuck and Ellie from? Mama B, here we come!
As always, Chuck and Sarah should be fun. And an engagement is probably the next logical step. How exactly do a couple of operatives arrange a wedding? Since Sarah has never really shown the girly-girly side, it is hard to imagine: “Let’s see, bridesmaid dresses—make sure they each have holsters for weapons in at least three locations….” That should be where Carina comes in, as in
Carina: “Are you sure you want to do this, getting married … thing? What about the never falling in love? By the way I hate this color”
Sarah: “Yes. And you will wear this dress, even if I have to drug you and put it on you myself”
Now Devon knows he cannot run from Chuck’s spy life, and Ellie is in on the secret, so how does that affect things? Something has to happen to Ellie so that she realizes that Chuck cannot simply walk away from being a spy, and that, by the way, he is actually pretty good at spycraft. Is Ellie “special”, in the same way that Chuck is “special”? Becoming pregnant is a cheap trick, unless it moves the story along somehow.
The Jeffster plot seems expendable, unless they can tie the amazing stalkers into Chuck’s missions. How does Big Mike fit in if the Buy More is no more?
Sixty-six days is too long to think about this….
I think one should be where sarah and casey and morgan get captured and then chuck has to save them
That would awesome!
Numbers 3 & 5 could tie together. Sarah has always been resistant to change in status. She dragged her feet about a relationship with Chuck, moving in with him, and saying “I love you”. So I can see her doing the same with an engagement. Then comes the Woodcomb baby. Sarah takes one look and capitulates.
lol Sarah as a mother would be hilarious.
1. Casey and Alex’s mother re-unite
2. Casey training Alex and Morgan to be spies
3. Mama Bartoski story
4. Mama Walker, Burton, ????? Story
5. Chuck & Sarah early engagement with Chuck style retro wedding in EP 13,
with Mama & Papa (Walker, Burton,????) & Mama Bartowski, & Casey as a
groomsman wearing a top hat and tails.
I agree with Bree (sorry the riming) on most things.
Just not digging the “retro”-themed wedding. I dont think they should marry yet. An engagement is enough. (BTW themed-weddings are soooo 2004).
Instead of number 5, I would vote for a nice engagement.
And I am not sure about the idea of training Alex as a spy… Morgan’s trainig would suffice as comedy.
She may already be a spy, with the cover of a pie-shop waitress. Did you catch the way she wailed on Casey the trained killer when she escaped from him? Someone trained her well.
I like 1. 3. 4. 5. Other then that I can’t think of anything else I’m just so excited for Chuxk to come back. 🙂
– I think we need to see more of Sarah’s past as far as what the deal with her mother is.
– I am really interested in seeing how Chuck gets around his promise to Ellie about getting out of the spy life. They didn’t actually say that Sarah and Casey were out of the CIA/NSA in the finale, but how will they tie in to Orion’s present to Chuck.
– I can see Ellie getting pregnant this season and a late, late engagement possibly for Chuck/Sarah.
I don’t even want to say it, but IF it is the last season (blah) then I can see an engagement or maybe even a Chuck/Sarah wedding at the end.
I love storylines all of them! but really want see 1,3,4 and 5!
1. I was wondering what Mama and Papa B going all these year whentogether and then when both disappeared.
3. chuck and sarah: We all now there perfect together. season 1 and 2 it look like srarh ready to settle down.
4. morgan really need nice woman I think it would be great for morgan and alex be together.
5. Ellie and Devon would be great parents and kinda time for next step in there marriaged
Also: 1. Have casey tell Alex’s mother true about him. 2. Get know little more about casey’s past.3. Have srarh’s father back. 4. How chuck get back being spy or Is working for himself?
I hope they will to these storylines!
I love tosee chuck, dveon, srarh, morgan,Alex, casey and of coause Elie’s face when Elllie find out she is pregnat.( If they do this storyline of course.)
If they do do this storyline: I am wondering how is she find out does chuck morgan devon sarah casey or alex see her do something she doesn’t normally do or Eat or drink something she doesnt even like! This going be Classic comdey!
I CAN’T WAIT!!!!! CHUCK ROCK!!!
Yeah about Devon and Ellie when are we going to get a little Woodcomb? They’ve been married long enough now to try and have a baby.
Casey and Kathleen running into each other and him coming clean would be nice closure to that though I wouldn’t complain if they got back together as I’m a sucker for that kind of thing. 😉 And I’m wondering if we’ll get to see some old faces like Jill, Jack Burton ect. Maybe we may find out if Chuck and Ellie have a long lost grandfather perhaps? Grandpa B. that would be awesome. I can’t wait so many possibilities.
Please… no Jill.
I’d like to see Mama B’s story (I think it’s going to be the heavy plot line this season)
If Mama Burton is alive, more on Sarah’s past (We got lots on Casey, why not Sarah?)
Engagement maybe for C/S and a reunion for Casey and Kathleen would sweet (yay more to add the ever growing Bartowski Clan. 🙂 ) More villains (good ones, not like the Ring ) I’d like to see how Casey and Sarah get out of the CIA/NSA and join up with Chuck. (It’s gonna happen I know it is) And if GB is going to be their inside man er woman if the government is still currupted.
I think mama B gonna be the main baddie of season 4
Chuck has gone solo and will clash with Sarah missions until Sarah finds out…
C&S will get married were Sarah will reveal her real name which I think is not Sarah or Sam……….
Unless they change it, it’s Sam. Ali Adler let Yvonne pick herself, and Yvonne decided Sarah was a Sam.
I think there’s a fine distinction between Sarah telling Shaw that “Sam” was her real name and “Sam” actually being her real name. Ali let Yvonne pick the name that she was going to tell Shaw. That much is known. And that she was going to tell him that it was her real name. What Schwartz and Fedak have planned by way of other “real names” is yet to be seen.
Oooo, I love all these storylines =D
This list I think are all things that should be addressed in some form in S4. Not necessarily all resolved but certainly addressed.
As for Jeffster on the run, I could see them going to Chuck to ask for help in clearing their names early in the season.
The Chuck/Sarah engagement I think would be a perfect thing for the Chuck Vs the Anniversary episode. I mean what would be more romantic than Chuck proposing on the anniversary of when they first met. The proposal should take place at one of 3 locations – the resteraunt or beach from the pilot or at the courtyard fountain.
Gord, I’d have to vote for the beach or courtyard for emotional resonance. The restaurant scene was cute but seems a little pale in that regard.
At the beach, Chuck would have a powerful theme to draw from, Sarah’s plea for him to trust her. He could reverse that, asking that it was her turn to trust him and produce the ring. A pretty persuasive argument in a setting evoking considerable nostalgia.
But the fountain is the winner in my book. Chuck has two powerful moments he could evoke, the breakup speech in 2.03 and his promise to “live the life that I want with the girl that I love” in 2.16. In the former, he could reflect on the fact that his big mistake was believing it was a normal life he wanted, when in fact it was just the opposite. And in deciding on an extraordinary life, she was the perfect match (and here’s where he should pull out the ring).
In the latter, it’s pretty obvious he’d be fulfilling a promise he’d made before, nothing more and nothing less. It would be a statement demonstrating his determination to reach his goals and a way to elicit trust from a woman who would be a little skittish (understatement) on this kind of commitment. Or something like that, anyway. 😉
No, as a matter of fact, I don’t think about these things too much. LOL.
I think I like the idea of the fountain being the best spot for a proposal.
But you know it could start with a dinner out to that resteraunt and end at the fountain.
They could work in all three scenes: a nice dinner at the restaurant, a walk on the beach afterwards, a proposal at the beach that meets with Sarah’s typical reluctance, and a final scene of a disappointed Chuck sitting at the fountain, where she joins him and gives him a speech similar to the “I’m sorry I freaked out about moving in” and “I’m sorry it took so long to say I love you”, then the happy ending.
I liked the suggestion for finding out more about Sarah’s mom, and dealing w/ the fact Chuck is no longer part of the CIA/NSA while the rest of team is, I also would like to see,
1. Chuck should find a way to control the interesect other than the governor, because a watch just seems to easy to break or lose
1b. I would like to see Chuck using his tech skills to actually come up with other gear too
2. This isn’t so much a storyline a scene but I can just imagine Casey having nightmares of tiny tiny versions of Morgan as his grandchilren (not that Morgan and Alex would be reproducing anytime in the near future — but the possbility would be terrifying enough to Casey I think)
I’d like to see Sarah interact with Ellie and Morgan more. She’s always been isolated in Chuck and Casey’s world. Now that everyone knows that Chuck is a spy, I’d really love to see her have storylines with the two most important people in Chuck’s life.
I’d like to see: a big Thanksgiving dinner at Ellie’s with the usual gang as well as Awesome’s parents, Big Mike and Morgan’s mom, Casey’s new family, Anna as Lester’s date, and Sarah could be awol from the dinner (which would upset Ellie) because her dad is back in town. The show is always at its best when there is a full cast of characters in one room. I’d also like to see…
…Jill again, but leave Shaw gone for this season. Jill should be good this time trying to rebuild her life and her past is getting in the way. Seeing her would be awkward for both Chuck and Sarah. Maybe they could do a flashback with Jill and Bryce on-screen together?
…a fake Behind the Music with Jeff and Lester. LOL
Hopefully the Buy More will be rebuilt and Beckman will still be a cast member. Clearing up Sarah’s bizarre names of Sam Lisa would also be nice.
The idea of the big Thanksgiving dinner is a nice one. They’ll never all fit into Chuck and Morgan’s current dining room, though. Maybe the recently-revealled Bartowski childhood home will become Chuck and Sarah’s new digs and has ample dining facilities.
I think sarah will propos to chuck.
I think it would be interesting to see an reservsal on the previous seasons when Ellie was the last to find out about Chuck’s spy life, for Ellie to be the first to find out about the secret base under the family home. Ellie and Chuck pursue the protocols found there and try to find their mother and try to keep it all a secret from the rest of the cast/team.
I like the idea of Ellie being the first to find out, but I think at the very least he should tell Sarah as well. It’s time he stopped lying to her.
Yes! If the whole theme of season 4 is going to be “Family”, then you don’t lie to family. Sarah included.
In terms of next season, they have set up a great idea that could last for the rest of the series: the search for Ma B.
Personally, I don’t think Chuck will try to keep Orion’s basement a secret, or at least it won’t go very far. Chuck got burned by secret-keeping near the end of last season (not telling Sarah about his mental problems from the Intersect; trying to get his dad to think he didn’t have the Intersect 2.0). Plus, it took a major toll on Chuck as a person to have to keep secrets from Morgan and Ellie; further secrets won’t protect them any better. Plus, the show has proven that Awesome, once let in on the secret, was never all that safe anymore. I think the same will go for Morgan and Ellie and Alex now. The cat’s out of the bag, and they’re all in this dangerous spy life together – half in the field, the others as support.
The show could actually break some ground as a spy show by having an extended family, without major secrets between them, acting as the most effective spy team in the world.
It would definitely be awesome for Ellie to be the first to know of Orion’s true work, and her mother’s whereabouts. It will likely be her telling Chuck that finding/protecting their mother is worth the danger of the spy life. Ellie could serve the dual purpose of motivating Chuck, while keeping him true to himself in the world of espionage. In short, she can again do what she did before Chuck got the Intersect – be his emotional center, in some ways that Sarah can’t.
I agree completely. Those who aren’t that good as spies (such as Ellie and Devon, though hey have their moments) hold down the home front and are shown as the support. While Chuck, Casey, Sarah and the rest can take care of the field work. They’re a family and as a family they’re in this together in spite of what Ellie wants and wishes.
I think the creators and writers have done their jobs impressively well so far. It’s been three fantastic seasons, each a bit better than the last.
I fear it will be hard to keep it up, and that it becomes easier to make a wrong turn, losing some of the quality of the series as it progresses. I will embrace the announced increased family focus on the show, but at the same time I’m afraid it will change the tone of the show in a negative way.
I hope to learn more about Mama Bartowski and Orion’s files.
I bet we will, about the files I mean. 😀
Chris Fedak has already said that the theme for season 4 is family. That being said real families have their conflicts as well as times of growing closer together through loss and shared experiences.
Like several others have mentioned above I can’t see Chuck trying to keep this new mission of finding his mother secret from Sarah let alone the rest of his extended family. Not only would it compromise the effectiveness of the Intersect it would also threaten his relationship with everyone that he cares about. It would be too much like season 3 to keep the others in the dark about Papa B’s final video about Mama B.
I too would like to see story lines that include Sarah’s mother and sister, Casey’s mom and his relationship with Kathleen and Alex, Grandpa B. (if he is still alive), further development of Chuck and Sarah’s relationship, Casey, Alex and Morgan’s relationship, Carina learning the value of family from Sarah, Ellie and Devon becoming more Awesome in helping to track down Mama B. and anything else that will grow team Bartowski into not just great spies but also a great, loving family.
Finally I think it would be hilarious to see Jeff and Lester try to hide out with Jeff’s felon mother or with Lester’s Jewish-Indian extended family. General Beckman could be kept in the loop by providing needed intelligence to Chuck, while Big Mike’s relationship with Morgan’s mom could re-ignite. Whatever happens it should be great fun and adventure!
Great idea about exploring Jeff & Lester’s families! Everyone seems to be focused so seriously on Chuck & Sarah’s ancestry. This could provide the comic conterweight to that story.
Yes, I think Jeff’s mom would be hillarious, and we all know that Lester’s parents had impossible standards. Imagine them being the consumate professionals – Lawyers, Doctors or University Professors.
Great post and I agree. 🙂
i want a good morgan storyline. i love him 🙂
Chuck being a freelancer with Sarah still CIA would make a cool subplot twist. They could run into each other on a mission the end of which Chuck outs his secret base under the house he grew up in and Sarah joins him in his private spy career.
Can not WAIT for more of Casey training Morgan and Morgan, who did a surprisingly good job as a spy at the end of season 3, becoming more spy worthy although I say he should never become too capable. Part of Morgan’s charm is his simple innocent outlook which wouldn’t work if he became truly capable.
Morgan and Alex will be fun as well. And of course I don’t see how you can have the daughter associating that closely with Casey without her Mom finding out.
I’m kinda glad that they haven’t had a season long villian. . .I hated Bryce while his intentions were unknown and it would’ve pissed me off to see him as a possible villian for a full season, not to mention the loathsome Shaw. But I’m sure that if the writers decided to have a season long villian it would work out.
Didn’t we see Shaw in the Season 4 previews at the end of Season 3?
How accurate could they be since S4 didn’t begin filming until 2 months after the S3 finale?
I could see all of your five story lines being laced into this season.
I can see the possibility for Gambs’ list nos. 1, 2, 4, and 5. Personally, I think it’s too soon if we see Chuck and Sarah’s engagement. But I think it could be an interesting cliffhanger in the finale of season 4 if Chuck proposes and then the season ends. I mean, we need another reason to look for season 5, people… 🙂
As for Anniversary, I think it’s either the Chuck and Sarah’s first first date (they had 2 first dates, right?) or Mama and Papa B’s anniversary, which would mean more flashback of Scott Bakula (is there news on whether he’ll be back on the show? I’m not sure…)
Saw that Henry Dean Stanton guest starring on season premiere and he being an obsticle to Chuck finding Mom. Have a theory that he plays Chuck & Ellie’s maternal grandfather. Just suspect he’s an extended member of the Bartowski family. That seems a real posiblilty to me.
He could be, that’s what I’m thinking too.
Like Mel and Liz were saying on the podcast, I think we are going to see them tie several story lines together. I think as Chuck learns more about his mom we will also learn more about Sarah’s. I am wondering too if they may link Ellie’s background to her mothers. We saw in the finale shot Mama B was looking at medical data on the computer. What I am thinking is the story they hinted when Ellie was given that followship opportunity, last season may tie into her Mother. I don’t think they would put that out there that Ellie is involved in nuerology and just leave that hanging there for no reason. I wonder if Chuck and Ellie’s dad was the inventor of the intersect but only the mechanical side and maybe thier Mom provided the biology link that made it work and that is why she has to be protected. It would be easy to contrast Ellie with her Mom and it would put Ellie in danger as well.
If the season 4 develops with the same philosophy that the last 6 cap. of the season 3 and chuck and sarah are a couple and together there will no be problem and can be an exelent season.
Ohkay I personally would love to see an engagement…but I dont think that it will happen early on. I think that Chuck will have to ease Sarah into it because I personally dont think that Sarah is ready for that level of normallcy quite yet. (but is getting close)
I also think with regards to the family thing that they will be bringing together Chucks family. After the lose of Papa B. Chuck and Ellie were talking about how family is the most important thing in the world. I think that they will bring Sarah, Chuck, Ellie, Awesome, Casey, Alex, and Morgan together as one big family.
I feel that all these storylines should be dealt with this season because we dont know if we will be lucky enough to see a season 5 although i hope so.
I have a idea on how to introduce mama b i would like some feedback on what you think about the way i wouldve introduced mama b.Sarah and casey could be tasked to break into a facility to steal something from the next big bad evil organization and while attempting to steal the item sarah sees another women kicking ass and trying to steal it herself if shes good or trying to prevent
sarah from stealing it to the point where sarah gets cornered and either mama b is about to kill her or saves her because she sees sarah wearing her bracelet.
I would like to see anna wu return this season if they decide to go with a triangle i think itll be hilarious with casey morgan alex and anna.
I also have a few ideas on how they could reintroduce her also.
If you have heard the comic con news one of 5 storylines will definitely be happening this season and its awesome.
chuck and sarah wedding is probably how they should end the season because of the uncertainty of the shows future every year.
One other thing the way to bring jeff and lester back into the show is after being on the run for a couple of months they decide to go to chuck for help to clear their names i think everyone remembers how much jeff and lester admire chuck wwcd and wwcdn. “chucks the greatest lady killer in burbank history”.”How does he do it” “ive narrowed it down to witch craft or some deal with the satan”.
I foresee a Chuck/Sarah engagement, but I doubt it will be right away. I read that Ellie is pregnant…I’m not surprised. As whacked as Ellie is (and by “whacked” I mean, “Crazy emotional”), preggo Ellie is bound to be hilarious.
I’d like to see some secret Morgan/Alex action (by that, I do not mean “sex” lol). Secret dating behind Casey’s back would be funny. How do you pull that over on The Casey?
Jeffster. Want. Them. Back.
I, personally, don’t think that Papa B is dead. I mean, come on. You don’t die on TV in that kind of location, doing that kind of research, and stay dead. Especially, when you’re the guy who created the most important part of the show! (Intersect). Lol. I’m just saying.
I read that two of the season 4 titles are “Vs. The Couch [something or another]” and “Vs. The First Fight.” Personally, I think it’d be funny to watch Chuck and Sarah have a legit first fight (unless, it’s about something stupid) and I think it be uber hilarious to watch her kick him out and make him sleep on the couch. Especially, since she went from wearing the pants in the relationship (or lack thereof) in seasons 1 & 2 to being all girly and whatnot. She needs to regain control. It was funnier.
I’d like old Casey’s sarcasm back. He’s getting too soft.
