Note: Genevieve is Mel’s 11-year-old niece. She discovered Chuck at the end of season 2 and was hooked. An aspiring writer, Mel & Liz decided to bring her along to Comic Con this year to meet both the talent behind the show and other fans. This is her report on the panel and press room, edited only for punctuation.
When we woke up the morning of the Chuck panel my eyes felt like they were carrying 10 pounds. Sleep covered my eyes like chocolate syrup on vanilla ice cream and my eyes were probably as black as the night sky, but I hurriedly got dressed and I got my purse.
When we were ready to go we hopped in the car and drove off to Starbucks for some breakfast. I would recommend ordering the Classic Glazed Old Fashioned doughnut. At Starbucks make sure you have quarters because at one of them you have to pay 1 quarter to go to the restroom. What you do with the quarter is buy a bathroom token and you put the bathroom token in the slot. Then you should be able to open the door.
When we got to the convention center there was a line as expected, but not really a long one. We sat on the cement (which was cold, hard, and rocky) and ate our breakfast. After eating my breakfast I was tired of sitting on the cement, So I sat on my comic con bag, which was filled with a pillow and a blanket from the hotel. We weren’t sitting down for more than half an hour when the doors to the convention center opened; so began the long walk around the convention center. When we got inside (it was freezing in there) I lay down and got out my pillow and blanket. The backpacks and lunch bags were lay down sort of like the border of a bed. It was very comfortable, but I only got to sleep for half an hour (so my plan is to spend the night in line next year, because it is so comfortable).
When we got in the panel we got good seats, but we had to wait another hour, so we sat and talked. When it was 5 minutes before the Chuck panel I tried to start a chant, but I was the only one standing. Apparently I was the only true Chuck fan there!
All of a sudden, the lights turned off, and Zac and Josh were on the screen. They were talking about the Ring and how the only way for them to save us was for them to put in a movie, so they listed some other movies that the Chuck cast had been in and they said they didn’t want to watch any of those movies, so they put in a Jeffster music video for our own good. Everybody says that Jeffster isn’t good, but I think they’re great! Jeffster did “Bad Romance” from Lady GaGa.
After Jeffster all the cast came out and the writers came out, too! It was probably one of the most exciting moments of my life! I think Yvonne saw me and aimed T-shirts at me and that was super amazing! Good news, I don’t think Adam had a gun so everyone there was safe. Sarah and Yvonne look even prettier in real life than on T.V. (probably because cameras are not made to pick up that much beauty).
After the panel we went to the Chuck pressroom, we didn’t even have any time in between to rest. First we got the writers and then we got Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster. I asked Ryan if he wanted to be a spy on Chuck, and he said he did until he found out there were long hours.
It was so awesome! Next year I’m going to get a front seat for sure!
You can also hear Genevieve talk a little about Comic Con in Chuck vs. the Podcast.
More articles by me coming soon!
Great insigh! Sounds like you had a great time. Do you want to be a writer someday?
Good job! I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Genevieve you are an amazing writer! Very creative. I am looking forward to reading more of your articles in the future.
Yes I already am somewhat a writer.
Thanks, Genevieve. I enjoyed your report and hope to see more of your opinions and interviews on the site. I agree about the beauty of Yvonne and Sarah, even though I haven’t been so lucky as to see them in person (yet) as you have. So please be the eyes and ears for those who don’t have the chance to meet and talk to all the wonderful people who bring us our favourite show! 😉
Nice reporting Genevieve! I finally got to watch the full Comic Con panel videos on NBC.com and noticed that while “Chuck” has a 23 minute video, the “Community” vid runs 44 minutes. How does a new half-hour show warrant twice the panel time of a full-hour show going into season 4?
Because the Chuck panel ran out of time. They started about 10 minutes late, then showed about 10 minutes of video, then used another 5 minutes on the intro dance/introducing everyone before finally getting to the panel itself. This year, panels were limited to 45 minutes (previous years have been 60 minutes); I think they either didn’t realize the panel was shorter, or assumed they could go over a little bit. Unfortunately, the Ballroom 20 admin refused to let them go over their allotted time.
Great writing! Very funny and informative. I know your dad is proud.
Wonderful article. I know you must have been VERY excited to be there. I do hope we see more of your work!! Your mom and dad must be proud of you. Here at FHCHC we are. Keep up the great work.
“Good news, I don’t think Adam had a gun so everyone there was safe.”
On the contrary. . .Adam knows that you “can’t unkill someone”, and what better way to know that nothing will happen if Baldwin has something “Shiney” tucked away? ; )
Great job Genevieve, keep up the great work! I can tell that one day you’ll be among the best of writers.
Also, there is the fact of the 30 foot rule, so both Strahovski and Baldwin would be remiss to not be carrying.
Very nice article!
It’s nice to hear from you 🙂
