Kristin at E! spilled some actual beans with us this week, courtesy of her visit to the Chuck set last week.
Neil in Boise, Idaho: Didn’t you hit the Chuck set? How was it?
Magical, as always! Yvonne Strahovski was shooting a fight scene on a catwalk with supermodel Karolina Kurkova, and it’s definitely going to rank up there as one of the best girlfights evah on Chuck. Yvonne also answered one of your fan questions—whether Brandon Routh/Daniel Shaw will return—in a way I think will make you happy! “Oh man, another rise from the dead!” Yvonne says with a laugh. “I don’t know how the fans would like that one. I think we have to leave the love triangles alone this time around because I think the fans just want to see Chuck and Sarah together for a little while before we bring in an evil love interest.” Yvonne says of Chuck and Sarah: “They’re together now. It gets very couple-y. We’re sort of finding our couple feet and the story is going to take us into finding Chuck’s mother.”Bryden in Maine: Any news on this season of Chuck?
One more tidbit: Armand Assante will be back on Chuck this season as Alejandro Goya, the king premier of Costa-Gravas, but this time he’s bringing his woman with him! Yep, look for Mrs. Goya to appear in episode four; producers are hoping to find a major name to play the part. (Any chance they could get Salma Hayek for the gig?)
Fights on the catwalk? No more triangles? A bid for Salma Hayek as Mrs. Premier of Costa Gravas? I’m in!
Hallelujah!!!! I hated shaw but I love chara! I hope the catwalk scene is a good one. That is one o can picture but would like to Know the behind story of why the scene even happens in the first place! Hmmm…dangg do I love this show with all my heart (:
Salma Hayek would be a real coup.
Great spoilers!! Salma Hayek would be great indeed, I wish they could get her.
agreed that would be awesome
I don’t get this Daniel Shaw business really. I appreciate that fans didn’t like him as a love interest (hell, I didn’t either!) but if he came back as JUST a bad guy, I’d have to say I’d be pleased. I thought in 3.18 & 3.19, we saw a Brandon Routh no-one had seen yet, and he made a GREAT villain in my view.
In the episodes he was in, where he WAS a love interest, we wouldn’t have had those agonisingly brilliant scenes between Sarah and Chuck, but of course, everyone wanted them together.
Without him as a love interest, we wouldn’t have even seen episodes like 3.12 and 3.13, two of the best between Chuck and Sarah, and now because of that, we’ve finally been given Chuck and Sarah together for Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7. Not that I’m getting carried away.
And if he did come back, Chuck and Sarah would just kick his butt anyway.
Gotta disagree Sam. I hate the whole “bring someone back from the dead” thing – I just always think of it as lazy writing, or symptomatic of a writing team that have run out of ideas. That’s just my prejudices coming into play – but Shaw’s return did measurable damage what was on screen in 3.13. It completely nullified the emotional impact of Chuck’s first kill in Paris – which was supposed to be one of the main pillars of the front 13.
He was indeed a passable villain – but for me, that doesn’t mitigate the damage done to the season by his character. In the front 13, I can barely remember a Shaw scene that doesn’t make me want to throw something at the TV screen. Don’t get me wrong – I loved much of Season 3, but Shaw was a monumental mistake, in my view, in conception and execution, and every time I saw him on screen I just thought of the damage that he was doing to the show, and to the characters. I’d had enough of him by Mask – by the Other Guy, I just wanted him gone in any way possible. He could have choked on a Tunaroni for all I cared.
I think TPTB have acknowledged the gravity of their mistake with Shaw, in their comments at SDCC (at least that’s how I interpreted them)and I’m glad that this spoiler means we can consign him to history and move on.
Me too. I hated his guts when he was a ‘good guy’ but I loved it when he was a villain. The best we’ve had. Sadistic, heartless, a complete psychopath. I think without the Governor, he’d be more dangerous still if he came back. I’m looking forward to the catfight as the premiere returning. VIVA LA CHUCK.!!!!
Yes totally agree the shaw scenario really killed some of the moments of season 3 for me. However I have to agree that once he became a villain i thought he became one of the best parts of the last couple of episodes which I thought were the best parts. I am so glad there are no more love triangles.
yep. everything happens for a reason.
Brandon Routh will NOT appear this season, because for the next 20 weeks because he is doing a play here in Minneapolis. I spoke to him for my podcast.
i agree with Sam C completely, and could someone please explain why Salma Hayek would be a coup probs don’t noe cos i’m not in the usa
hmph! no to shaw! getting tired of him already. maybe in season 5 but not now. please not now! plus i hate him because of getting in the way of churah tandem! btw, congrats to the writers for creating such a villain. no sarcasm. churah fans like me hate him soooo much! XD BUT! let’s not forget he also is one of the reasons why chuck is CHUCK right now. being a spy i mean.. made him a fighter! better fighter against crime, and of course, a fighter for the apple of his eyes- no other than SARAH! ^0^
I’ve written this before and I’ll write it again, “Chuck” is easily the most original show on television. Someone please give me one show that’s more unpredictable than “Chuck”. The only show that came close was “LOST”, and that says a lot. This is the ONLY show that can go anywhere each episode. The rules for formulaic serials does not apply here, for these characters could do anything on any given episode. It’s unbelievable. A different actor playing a character in consecutive episodes?? Someone tell me where you might find that anywhere else!
“Yvonne says of Chuck and Sarah: “They’re together now. It gets very couple-y. We’re sort of finding our couple feet and the story is going to take us into finding Chuck’s mother.â€
Good news! It will be fun and touching to see them learning to be a couple!
Wouldn’t it be nice if Chuck and Sarah are working together to find Mama Bartowski, and not just Chuck on his own?
You know they will. I think TPTB said they’ll find a way to get the gang back together and soon cause they don’t like the team to be apart for long anymore then we do.
Hey everyone, please go to www.ew.com and vote for Zachary Levi for the EWwy award. He won last year but at the moment he is just #3 and behind #1 and #2 by a wide margin.
Yvonne says that the character Daniel Shaw will return “in a way I think will make you happy” – if she’s talking to the fans who they know found Shaw to be a love/hate (mostly hate) character, then I would wager a guess we’ll see him back in an episode or two to revisit him as a nemesis to Chuck and likely discover he’s been broken out to hunt Chuck or perhaps offered to join with this years covert organization hell bent on world domination and needing their own intersect. (Will he get a team Shaw? Maybe joined by his own blond agent and a casey as well?) 😉 lol – wouldn’t that just annoy people – hehehe
For me I never hated the Shaw character even when he started out. I was a bit confused when his character started moving in on Sarah but the confusion ended when he came out as a bad ass baddie and a legitimate equal who ‘can’ defeat Chuck and that makes him dangerous and interesting as there is someone out there who has the capabilities to get in the way of team Chuck and knows them better than anyone else. Should be an interesting season.
Looking forward to the Costa-Gravas episode…
“Yvonne says that the character Daniel Shaw will return “in a way I think will make you happy†–”
No, you misunderstand, Kristin said that Yvonne gave her answer “in a way I think will make you happy”, not that Shaw would return in a way that would make us happy. It was a faulty formulation, that’s all. Because everyone, from TPTB to Zach and Yvonne, said that there would be no love interest this year; Chuck and Sarah are exclusive to each other now.
That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Shaw appear in an episode or two to threaten Chuck, Sarah or the whole Bartowski clan.
I wouldn’t be surprised either, what better way to rise the stakes then to use a bad guy who knows everything about our heroes to threaten and even hunt them down at intervals. I’d love it actually if he did come back at least for an episode or two mind? I can’t wait for season 4.
Catwalk girl fight??!! The funny part will be how it even started in the first place. The Chuck news is getting better and better as each day goes by!! Watch Chuck be a judge in the crowd and the evil supermodel starts to hit on him, unleashing a jelous Sarah haha..and Casey can be disguised as the designer of the fashion show. I’d really love to see that 🙂
Heres the problem with bringing Shaw back. I simply don’t want to be reminded that he ever exsisted as someone that Sarah was legitimately interested in. Out of sight out of mind. My stomach turned when chuck and sarah went back to his apartment and when Casey interrogated Sarah with chuck by her side. The episodes where Sarah and Shaw got together were the only times in the series where I just thought the writers were off their rockers.
Ewww. I agree Mike, that whole interrogation scene when we and Chuck actually learn they had an affair while in Washington and possibly at his Loft made my stomach turn too, poor Chuck just kept banging his head on the table. I’m cool with him coming back so Chuck can kick his butt again, but I kind of agree w/you that his return would be a reminder of how Sarah lost faith in Chuck for awhile and developed real feelings for that guy. Ick!
So glad to see Yvonne’s response though, I’m very much looking forward to Couple-y things between them. Just a caution to all the Shippers out there though, every relationship has ups and downs, so don’t freak out!
As for Salma Hayek. Well, I’ve seen Desperado about 50 times and she’s just great, gets’ better w/age. Love to see her on Chuck w/ Mr. Assante.
Just for the record and real quick I wonder if somewhere in S4 that whole “my real name is Sam (to Shaw)” thing will be mentioned again. I could have cheerfully said some not so nice things to the writers about that Cluster/F (it starts with cluster you work out the rest) lol
Who said anything about love triangles? How bout Shaw comes back not as a love interest but an enemy of Team B ?
I’d see Shaw back near the end of the season, or even during the last episode, as the nemesis. But I also agree with Mike to a certain degree; I won’t be disappointed if we don’t see him at all this season!
Oops! My reply to Mike didn’t take so here goes again. Totally agree about Shaw, that whole interrogation scene when we find out about Shaw/Sarah’s affair upset my stomach too. I almost wanted to bang my head on the table like Chuck. Shaw was tood as a bad guy though, but I’d just as soon not have a reminder of that liason and how Sarah lost faith in Chuck for awhile. Loved Yvonne’s comments and I’m so looking forward to seeing more Couple-y things with Charah! But caution to all Shippers–all couples have their ups and downs and they will too, so don’t freak out!
In my opinion bringing Shaw back as a villain is a great idea! The best villains are always the ones you hate but at the same time you can’t stop watching them even if you want to. Shaw in the end of season 3 was portrayed this way and it was amazing. All of the awkward shaw scenes and the fact that Sarah lost faith in Chuck made “other guy” and (especially) “the Honeymooners” all the more satisfying. I found myself cheering at times, in my mind I can’t see myself doing that without all the awkwardness before hand.
Good point Caleb. It was an emotional roller coaster which made their finally being together all the more satisfying. I just had a great idea as I was reading your post. Maybe Shaw could come back after they find Mama B. and Linda Hamilton can get medieval on his a** for killing her husband!
That would be amazing!!
a villain is supposed to bring out the best in the characters, shaw got hundreds of minutes and dozens of scenes in season 3, yet by and large he brought out near the worst in both of our two hero’s, especially in sarah who he reduced to the office tramp and his personal lapdog, attached to his hip for 6 or 7 episodes while she looked epically miserable – he may have been as epically, gamechanging a miscast, misfit, and miswritten character as has ever been on tv, why bring him back and stir up all the hatred for the show, for sarah, for the showrunners, and for season 3, just because he was an ok villain, like betting $100 on a 50/50 bet to win 2 bucks, he is not worth it
Chuckfan75 your right villains are supposed to bring out the best in characters but you have to remember that Shaw was only a villain for 3.2 episodes at the most the rest of the time he was a team leader.
I didn’t have a problem with Shaw coming back as a villian in Season 3 because for me it gave closure to that storyline. I just don’t want to see him at all ever again because it will remind me of those few episodes (mask and fake name) that I never want to be reminded of again.
I know its petty and intellectually I can get past it I just don’t like it.
I agree with most of you. I think I would be ok with seeing Shaw return, but only for a few episodes and not for a while. He single-handedly ruined the season. I’m not even sure if bringing him back would be worth it because the damage he caused to the show was immense. I’ve always been pretty sure that if it hadn’t been for the back 6, and all the Charah moments in the back 6, the show would not be alive right now. I’m not even sure if I would be able to tolerate him at all because I don’t think I ever want to be reminded that he ever existed. Both him and Hannah were big mistakes. The whole emotion thing was a good idea, but the execution of it couldn’t have been more of a miserable failure and a mistake.
It’s nice to hear Yvonne sharing some significant Chuck and Sarah news for a change. She has always been so guarded in the past over what she says.
Her statement, “They’re together now. It gets very couple-y. We’re sort of finding our couple feet…” has me hoping that Sarah will reveal things like she was the one who karate kicked Chuck and Morgan in the pilot and destroyed Chuck’s computer. Even just seeing them returning to the same beach from the pilot, talking about their past and future together. Sarah talking about her family and Chuck emphasizing that she is now part of his family. In other words, all the things that couples typically do. I’m looking forward to what is ahead.
the whole shaw the villain was well played, im with most peopleon the fact that the first 13 had me sat asking when is this going to end (the shaw sarah thing). but they could bring shaw back once every other season as the joker to chucks batman
DN says—Some places they should never go–Shaw was a monumental error–it may not be justifiable but it tainted the whole series for me. I have no trust in F&S—they have made several mistakes but Shaw was the worst. I have season 3 on dvd’s but only care to watch around 8 episodes. I look forward to season 4 being better from beginning to end. The Honey Moon Train and a few others will be tough to match. No more love triangles will only help.
I trust F&S a little now, since at Comic Con they said they learned some things. It took an entire dang year of uproars but us fans finally got the damn “no more love interests or angst” message across to them. Don’t get me wrong though. That trust is quite fragile and it will be gone the moment I see or hear anything I don’t like. Based on everything I’m hearing about season 4, it will be a hell of a lot better than the first 12 of season 3, and any season so far. They might actually top the Honeymooners quite easily from everything I’m hearing.
this is great! Yvonne as supermodel? why not??!! I’d love to see more couple-y moments for Chuck and Sarah–can hardly wait! and, yeah, Salma Hayek would be great for the part of Goya’s wife.
WOW!!
Sarah’s gonna be doing a catwalk and a catfight!!!
That is so COOL!
I’m sure Chuck’s jaw will be hanging if he’s gonna see Sarah on a runaway!
😛
So it means that Josh Schwartz still wants to add a new love interest and make new love triangles or squares with Chuck and Sarah? Again?
Yvonne said “fans just want to see Chuck and Sarah together for a little while before we bring in an evil love interest.” … That means that either mid-season or by season end Josh Schwartz plans doing it again.. or if it gets renewed for a Season5 they will do that again there?
Whenever they are going to do it that will sink the show forever with no hope for recovery. It’s amazing how arrogant Josh Schwartz can be.. he doesn’t respect characters nor fans, he really doesn’t care at all and his action will kill this show. He was lucky that the show got renewed despite tons of fans angry with the Brandon Routh mess but Josh Schwartz still wants to force what fans don’t like and what almost killed the show already during the awful second episodes of Season3 with Brandon Routh.
Josh Schwartz is out of mind clearly. He really doesn’t know what he is producing and what customers like about the products he is a producer of.
Wow. Determined to be a wet blanket, huh? I think I remember you spouting doom and gloom about season 3 being the end a few months ago, that Fedak & Schwartz had “killled” the show and there was no chance at a season 4. FYI, I thought the Shaw storyline was interesting. His first set of episodes weren’t executed as well as I’d have liked, but his second batch of episodes, coming back as a true villain, were really good. So please don’t presume you know what all viewers want.
Hey, cool off your jets, Mat!
Yvonne just said what she said because this year, she knows that Sarah and Chuck will be together, exclusively. She doesn’t know about next season! And did you notice that Yvonne said they will get MORE couple-y, they will learn how to be a couple? I’m very happy about that!
I’m not a big fan of PLI’s either, but I’m ready to go one season at the time, and perhaps you should too.
Schwartz and Fedak said that this year, Chuck and Sarah will be together (and that we will be very happy with what we’ll see); does that mean that they won’t be together next year? And please remember that EVERY TIME Chuck AND Sarah had a PLI, what was the end result? It was only a temporary setback, and Chuck and Sarah got closer.
I wouldn’t worry if I were you…
Hey, why did you censor my posts?
No one can say anything negative about Josh Schwartz,uh?
Is this site affiliated with the production then?
LOL! Hit refresh.
Wait a minute…I don’t remember Shaw “dying” a second time. Just got bonked on the noggin by a pole. I’m sure he’ll make another appearance at some point, if not this season, then next (is it too early to hope for a fifth season?). I absolutely hated him as a love interest for Sarah, but I think he turned into quite the formidable baddie. He’s got some history with Sarah and Chuck, and could very well be the Lex Luthor to Chuck’s Superman.
I would like to put a big fat “NO” to love triangles with Chuck and Sarah. These two are absolute magic together. Sure, I wouldn’t mind having things to come along and test or strain the relationship, but those types of obstacles only make them stronger, and bring them closer together. After all, we wouldn’t have had the blissful start to their real relationships if they didn’t have to go through so much crap to get to that point. Isn’t the reward that much more satisfying when you have to overcome some challenging stuff first? I think the other characters deserve to have some love interests explored, like Morgan and Alex, or Casey possibly reconciling with the love of his life at some point, etc. The Bartowski family has grown, and with everyone now in the loop, everyone’s stories have a chance to be developed and expanded. I’d be interested to find out to what extent the rest of Team Bartowski will be involved with Chuck’s new missions: stopping more terrorist organizations and criminal masterminds, and of course, finding Mama B.
As Papa B. said to Chuck in his last message, “Your story…it’s only just beginning.” Three wonderful seasons, and what’s happened up to this point, in my opinion, is essentially just an “origin” story for our hero(es).
Here’s to an exciting fourth season, and many more to come!
I liked all of Sara’s love interests as a spy or a bad guy like Shaw was an excellent bad guy and Cole was a great spy but I absolutely loathed them as love interests, I can handle both coming back as long as there’s no more love interest. keep C/S together or eventually that’s going to kill the show IMHO..
I literally cringed thru season 3 usually FF>> thru the angsty parts until C/S got together.
The whole love interest angle squares or triangles has become soooo repetitive that it’s just plain “switch off” material. Similarly the bring them back from the dead is becoming an issue as well but I don’t know if Shaw is dead, although he should be, maybe that crunch I heard when Sara hit him on the head was my wishful imagination.
As per other concerns on other boards I’m kinda concerned that their going to break C/S up pretty much because that’s their idea of “good” writing. Me?? If their together then leave them together methinks 🙂
I just thought of the perfect song for that Catwalk scene.
Right Said Fred – “I’m too sexy” from the early 90’s.
