TV Guide Mega Buzz has a teeny bit of Chuck news for us today, elaborating on Alex’s role in the new season:
Is Chuck grooming Alex to be a mini-spy? — Ben
MICKEY: It’s no accident that producers have shown us that Casey’s daughter has some serious combat skills. “It’s a spy show, so I think she’s going to be on some missions,” reports Adam Baldwin, who plays Alex’s proud papa.
And Matt Mittovich at Fancast shares news we don’t like:
More ‘Chuck‘ scoop, please! – Toni
The very good news this season, of course, is that Linda Hamilton is playing Chuck and Ellie’s mother. The bad news is that my speculation that Chuck’s father (played by Scott Bakula) somehow faked his death last spring probably won’t come true. “He’s dead, unfortunately,†Ryan McPartlin asserts. “And you know why he’s dead? Because you have to make that threat real. The same thing happened with [the ill-fated Buy More manager played by] Tony Hale. And it literally breaks our heart.â€
Heartbreaking barely touches it!! Yet I was frustrated that Papa B and Chuck would confront Shaw with no thought that he might actually use the gun(s) he and his henchman were point at them. How naive. Chuck may detest guns, but he’d better be smarter about those who, like Shaw, or CASEY, or even Sarah, love ’em and fire ’em.
they should bring him back just to reunite the whole family
Never say never. If they do want to resurrect Papa B I would think they would like to keep that under wraps as long as possible for the big surprise factor.
Hey, when Shaw could manage to come back, I think Papa B also can. I mean, he was a super-spy and his death was too quick for his level. So, Ithink it’s possible. 🙂
If Bryce (the first time) and Shaw could come back from the dead I cant see why Orion can’t.
Orion already faked a death in season 2 in the helicopter that exploded.
Ryan said, “and it literally breaks our heart.â€
Really? You’re hearts are literally broken?
Alas, the quirks of the English language.
They also seem to have only one heart among them. But it’s a big one! 😉
Aww, he said ‘heart’ instead of hearts. Even the cast is a family now. I miss Papa B. 🙁 (I need a tissue…)
I’d love a father and daughter mission with Casey and Alex, fighting evil side by side and back to back like a true spy team. 🙂 Bless them.
c’mon lets bring him back for a family reunion
And. . .That’s why there are people that study linguistic anomalies. Just be glad that he didn’t say. “and that like totally, like literally, like breaks our like heart.” = P
They’ve already brought Bryce and Shaw back from the dead. I can’t imagine them doing it with Orion. There has to be some form of believability when it comes to someone dieing on a show.
agreed … things tend to get rather ridiculous when they start bringing people back from the dead all the time …
i remember back on 90s on comic books that every possible superhero died and then got ressurected, went to the future .. the past .. got a clone etc etc. I mean, seriously, either kill the character or dont kill it. Otherwise it completely looses credibility. Like they said “you have to make that threat real”, if not, any character that happens to die will be like “yeh whatever, he can get resssurected in a couple of episodes.”
Also agreed. I think it would simply be too much. I think Zach said, regarding something else “Here is the shark, and here is us, and here is us jumping the shark if that happened”.
Though I loved papa B, I would hate it if he were alive. But I would looooove some flashbacks.
And I think they will have to do some pretty good writing to explain Alex becoming a spy. Is it so easy to be a spy (BTW, I hate the word “spy”, it is so unreal… I would prefer agent, but I understand agent is not so dramatic, as is could refer to a DEA agent, a real state agent (hehe), an “Ari Gold” kind of agent) that almost everyone they know gets involved? The Morgan story is already a strech. And Casey tried so hard to protect his family, it seems a little odd that he would suddenly not only have them know the truth (I know it was unavoidable), which is already dangerous, but let his daughter risk his life as well?
I know “nobody likes a cynic” and I really trust the writers and producers to keep Chuck great, but these are some mini-fears I have regarding the 4th season.
If characters coming back from the dead was not a recurring theme on Chuck (remember Bryce, Vincent, Papa B. and Shaw) I would be more likely to believe that Papa B. was gone forever.
Still, I remember Chuck’s conversation with his dad once he discovered he was Orion, “I saw you die (Dad), I saw you explode in a helicopter.” “I see how I could have given you that impression. I’ve had to die quite a few times, one of the perils of being Orion.” Clearly nothing is impossible on Chuck, even having Papa B. fake his own death once again, to defeat those who have Mama B. It’s really up to the story that Schwartz & Fedak ultimately decide to tell.
Oh, I don’t know…all this constant resurrection of dead characters has become something of a running gag for “Chuck”. Sort of like “Murphy Brown” and the weekly rotation of secretaries. You knew immediately when you saw the new secretary that they’d be gone the following week. When you see someone die on “Chuck”, it’s a given that you could end up seeing them again. It doesn’t debase the moment as much as some folks let on. When Chuck shot Shaw, he may have thought he’d killed him, but he definitely saved Sarah’s life and won her heart, regardless.
I do hope for some family flashbacks though
The fact that Orion is dead wasn’t that surprising to me. Shaw shot him in the chest when he wasn’t expecting it, and he also wasn’t in control of it, so something like the helicopter in the Predator episode isn’t really possible either. If they keep bringing people back from the dead, they should create something equivalent to 24’s silent clock to indicate death.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Alex on missions and her and Morgan dating behind Casey’s back. I knew they had to bring her into the spy world somehow because she’s heard too much not to question anything. I’ve had a theory ever since the season 3 finale that Alex is going to be Morgan’s Sarah, if you get what I mean. Sarah changed Chuck’s life when they met, and he manned up and became a spy for her. I think they’re going to do the same thing with Alex and Morgan. Think of how Morgan will react when he sees or finds out that his girlfriend (or the girl he likes) is a better spy than he is. That’s going to make him pretty envious of her and cause him to want to improve his spy skills a lot. And Alex can teach him in a much better and more effective way than Casey ever could: through love.
I like your idea of Alex becoming Morgan’s Sarah, although I somehow doubt it because she wont be a series regular, just a recurring guest star.
Although maybe we will see that in Season 5.
WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex’s gonna be a SPY!!
how COOL is that!!
I hope theres gonna be a episode where Casey and Alex will have a mission together, as father and daughter.
Yes, and we also have to see a Chuck/Sarah Morgan/Alex double date.
Scott Bakula costs too much and after the Season3 failure thanks to Josh Schwartz bad management with the whole Shaw and Hannah lazy written plotline the network lowered budget once again and so they can’t have Scott Bakula in the show anymore. Yeah, they got Linda Hamilton and that surely is going to hurt badly enough budget wise.. adding Scott Bakula to the mix would cause the production to go bankrupt.
The season 4 budget is the same as season 3. Also, the studio sets the budget, not the network.
How does it work? Is it a per episode budget, or a per season budget? Season 3 got us 13 plus a back 6, Season 4 gets us 13 plus an optional 9. If Seasons 3 & 4 have identical budgets, will the extra 3 eps in this year’s option cause a budget over-run or do they have to cut dollars on a per-episode basis?
It’s a per episode budget, like every other TV show. When they get the back 9 pickup, they get budget approval for 9 more episodes.
Oh if it comes to SB costing too much (lets’s count the episodes he was in) I count six, BR was how much? Eight or Ten to be exact. I smell a rat in that kind of comment.
OMG its amazing that ppl are still bringing up the whole hanna and shaw thing sarah and chuck are together now ………….cant wait for season 4
I can’t blame them. Shaw and Hannah weren’t necessary and they were the primary epic mistakes in a season with a horrible first 8 and which the execution of was downright abysmal. It’s funny. Every time I think about the first 8 episodes of season 3, I find more and more flaws and mistakes. Us fans want to make sure something like that never happens again. The show simply can’t afford it. Season 4 should be really awesome though. Chuck and Sarah together for good (finally), Alex and Morgan, and Chuck’s search for mom.
I think it would damage a story if they brought Papa B back. It had a huge impact at lives of everybody, mainly Chuck and Ellie. Chuck´s decision to leave CIA was based partly on the fact that his father was killed and Ellie saw it. And Chuck was holding him when he died. I am not sure he would be able to fake it – he would have to be prepared for it (and to wear, for example, a bullet-proof vest) and I doubt even papa B could have seen it coming.
There was a flash of Mom B with a very dark wig–looked terrible–they need to use Linda Hamilton’s natural graying hair. During the last episode was Yvonne using her natural (real) hair color??? Everyone seems to be pumped for the new season. I hope to get friends of mine to watch the show again, they started dropping outsbeginning with the mask—love triangles can cost some loyal fans. We all need to bring them back if we want a season 5.
this season is going to rROCK! 😀
