MSN has the short synopsis for episode 4.05, “Chuck vs. the Couch Look”:
Chuck must decide what he is willing to sacrifice to find his mother; Morgan reveals a potentially dangerous secret to Casey.
I’m still stumped on what the episode title means. Meanwhile, in episode 4.03 news, we have a mysterious tweet from Josh Schwartz:
This Mon on Chuck. Â Nicole Richie & Stone Cold & Stacey Kiebler as GRETA! and a final scene that will make u. Â #cliffhanger
“Will make u…” what? Scream? Laugh? Build a time machine and travel to October 11? This video from the WWE doesn’t provide much by way of clarification on that cliffhanger, but it does give us a (slightly distorted) look at Stacy Keibler as Greta 3.0 and Steve Austin facing down Zachary Levi in an air shaft.
Just watched Undercover–pretty good–a loving spy couple that openly shows their affection–wow–no angst–a real enjoyable advantage over some other spy couples. Of course developing a feeling of home is a step in the right direction–talking about marriage and kids is too big a jump. F&S keeps us guessing with their title choices. Things still look like they could get much better in S4–we need to win more episodes or/and an early okay on S5.
The problem with Undercovers is that you have two rich, beautiful, highly skilled people that are in love with each other, and thats the pilot episode. How are these characters supposed to change except for the worse. It all down hill from the start. And that’s exactly why that show is tanking badly. Second week out and only a 1.6 rating. Looks like a back 6 order for Chuck to fill in the holes in NBC’s lineup from the inevitable cancellation of Undercovers, Outlaw, the Event, and probably Law and Order:LA. Jury’s still out on Outsourced, but as soon as the jokes about indian culture get old it will die too.
I watch the Undercovers and I think there is many directions in which that show can go. Each has worked on their own and have never discussed their cases with each other. That offers a lot of discovery about the two that can cause ripples in their relationship thus drawing them closer. The problem is there needs to be a strong underlying storyline and I don’t think that has really been developed yet.
Chuck on a couch with a beard can more than likely only mean one thing–probably no Sarah around and more than a little bit of depression for Chuck.
They were very much together in the scenes I saw them filming for 4.07, so don’t raise the angst alert too high. 😉
Yep!
TPTB and the cast said many times that Chuck and Sarah are together this season. They also said they will have issues to settle, and that they will discover what are each others desires and needs.
A bit of angst, maybe, but their love for each other is not in question.
Heck, even if (heaven forbids)they would split up in the future, it wouldn’t be because they don’t love each other anymore.
Half the sources I’ve seen say “Couch Look” and half say “Couch Lock”. The “Lock” makes sense if it refers to a lock on the cache of weapons Sarah stores inside the couch.
I just found a synopsis for 4×05 and it reads “Couch Lock”. Hmm.. confused here. Anyway, here it goes:
“CHUCK VERSUS THE COUCH LOCK”
10/18/2010 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Monday) : CHUCK’S LATEST MISSION PROVIDES A LINK TO CASEY’S PAST — AND POSSIBLY TO CHUCK’S MOM — ERIC ROBERTS, JOEL DAVID MOORE , DAVE BATISTA AND MEKENNA MELVIN GUEST STAR — When Colonel Casey’s (Adam Baldwin) former team returns looking for him, Chuck (Zachary Levi) must decide what he’s willing to sacrifice in order to find his mom. Elsewhere, Morgan (Joshua Gomez) works up the nerve to reveal a potentially dangerous secret to Casey. Yvonne Strahovski, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin, Bonita Friedericy, Vik Sahay and Scott Krinsky also star.”
So it is probably on this episode that Casey and Morgan show up wearing camouflage/field attire.
You think Casey finds out about M/A’s romance in this one, or the Coup e’tat?
I wonder what Chuck will have to sacrifice for his mother, since he said nothing was worth losing his family. Can’t wait. 🙂
If Chuck sacrifices Sarah on fifth episode I will travel to to US find the producers and kill them.
I’ll go with you buddy >:)
Uh-oh, they are having communication problems on 4×04 and there is a couch involved on 4X05…I trust the writers, but I am intrigued.
I have also been thinking about what Heather Chandler said on the promo, that Chuck is too in love to see something about Sarah… what could that be (aside from pure evil-doing from Heather)? Is she perhaps referring to the fact that she thinks Sarah will never be able to settle down (have a family, etc) and that Chuck can’t see that? Could this conflict be the unresolved-festering element that only gets worse because of lack of communication (4×04), leads to Chuck being miserable (4×05) and to the first fight (4×07)? I think the first fight could be relating to that conflict plus the return from Mama B on 4×06 (aisle of terror) or 4×07, that is, Sarah’s “family” issues confronted with a woman very similar to her who tried to have it all and lost it all.
And I think Chuck’s decision (what to sacrifice) might also involve Ellie perhaps being against him looking for Mama B because of the danger…, but mainly Sarah, since we already know there will be some conflict in future episodes involving Sarah, Chuck and Mama B on handcuffs (check out the podcast!).
Oh, so many questions and so little tweets/info from TPTB!
What podcast? Please tell me where it is you have me intrigued.
Podcast Nr. 68.
If you ask me what the greatest problem with Sarah is: it is her lack of ability to be truly honest and open. We had some warm moments with her and Chuck, but she’s still in many ways not fully present in this relationship. She’s to good in lying, Chuck (sadly) learned that from her. And she demands to trust her, she demands no secrets, no lies. Has she ever going to give something like that in return?
Yeah thats what I’ve always said. We know so little about Sarah’s character in reality and even less about her history (especially spy) and family. I am hoping that my original thought proves true this season that at least the audience (if not Chuck) get a glimpse into her this season while Chuck is in search for his mother, perhaps that brings some inner reaction from Sarah as a consequence? I really love Sarah’s character but after the torment of previous seasons I’m starting to feel disillusioned with her a lot more because of the simple fact she isn’t nearly as open or honest when she needs to be.
Hmm…something like Mama B’s return brings up a trauma that Sarah had in her childhood (like her mother abandoned her and her father?), and then her emotional gates opens and Sarah tells a lot of things to Chuck?
That would be awesome!!!
Yup exactly! I mean it could potentially change the entire dynamic of the show if not at the very least the season. For the past 3 seasons we’ve constantly felt empathy for Chuck because we know his history. God only knows what feelings we could learn from Sarah’s side that would finally bridge the emotional gap of her character. If they played the card right whatever story they decided to conger up could alter the course for the rest of the show!
Just my 2 cents. I know the writers know what they’re doing but there are so many things yet the show can do to stay fresh and alive contrary to the haters belief that Chuck is running out of things to add to keep it going. I say let a Season 5 (cross fingers) be about potential marriage/baby and Season 4 stick with Mama B, Ellie and Awesomes baby, Chuck fully accepting his spy life, relationship issues between Chuck and Sarah, and a deeper insight into Sarah to prep a lead-in to Season 5. Not to forget we got a new baddie group with Volkrof. So much going on already but I’m really hoping that wish comes true with Sarah. I want to know her better than just a spy who feel in love with Chucks friend before she met Chuck and wishes at times she could control her emotions better. Open that emotional locker of yours Sarah! Show us that heart!
There is one thing in this matter that gives me hope. When there was this whole friction about suitcase and Sarah tried to hang one dress: Chuck told her not to do this, just because he told her so. He started to see, that she only reacts. It was only he, who made steps toward her first, he’s the one, who we seen fighting for this relationship.
It always make me scream inside, when I return to season 3 and Sarah telling us, that she no longer loves Chuck. That how much she trust him and respect everything he done because of her.
Listen, Sarah is a deeply emotional character. Because of her life, she has just learned not to express it. Try living on the run. Every time she had to move to stay ahead of the law with her father, she could never really tell anybody anything. She had to keep her feeling hidden in order to stay with her dad.
Sarah is growing emotionally but in baby steps. There are indications that she has revealed things to Chuck that we, the audience, don’t know about. The picture pulled from the suitcase was from Season 1. Has she carried that picture all this time? Saying she didn’t love Chuck in Season 3 and that he could never hurt her was just her way of protecting herself and finding that excuse to bury her feelings. She did the same thing in Season 1 about the kiss SHE gave Chuck when she thought they would die. It never worked though because you could always see it in her face and actions how she felt about Chuck.
I would like to go deeper into Sarah’s backstory. The set-up right now has Chuck mirroring his father (Chuck came up with the tranq gloves) and Sarah possibly mirroring Chuck’s mother. Would Sarah desert Chuck to protect their family (future family). Where is Sarah’s mother? Maybe she was in the CIA too and Mama B will reveal as much?
Is it Monday yet?
Pulling for Sarah!
I don’t know, why I can’t answer you’re post directly (some page limitation). I feel like I have to explain few things.
First of all – I do love Sarah. There is no reason to defend her. It’s love her / hate her – this show has this amazing ability to catch you emotionally.
I agree with most things you wrote. But problem still stands. She’s still not honest ans she’s still not fighting for this relation not nearly enough.
One thing I disagree is about Sarah telling she no longer loves Chuck. She was about to leave him – with Shaw. It was not just about protecting herself. Clearly – she was protecting her feelings, since she didn’t even have decency to face Chuck after what she done to him. But she also was ready to make a decision without even little credit of trust for Chuck.
Well there is a reason she’s not completely honest, growing up with a con artist dad who pretty lives dishonestly and lies for a living you’d be pretty screwed up too.
What facsinates me on this show is that every single one of the main gang (with the exception of Awesome) has had such a screwed up life they all have issues, yet as a makeshift family they’re working on them with baby steps and while make terrific progress, still have a ways to go. I’ve been loving the journeys everyone has made. Man, I love this show. 😀
Hope – this is exactly what I want to see, and somehow I’m still a little bit disappointed. Chuck’s progress in spy skills and journey to adulthood is well defined. On the other hand when we meet Sarah she’s pictured as both excellent spy and someone emotionally grown up. Later we discover her inability to live normal life. And when Chuck has made light years (it weren’t baby steps in my eyes), Sarah still hasn’t crawled out of her shell.
There is no Love without truth. For me they won’t be together, as long as they will be dancing this stupid dance of lies and secrets. Arguments they use not to say the truth to themselves are only rationalizations and excuses.
You know, thing which is most difficult for me: there is so much wisdom, real wisdom in most characters in this series: Chuck, obviously Ellie, Awesome, even Morgan. Casey has his moments. And Sarah is still emotional troublemaker. Still keeping Chuck emotionally insecure.
I see where you’re coming from and I’d love to see Sarah coming out of her shell more. But give it time and we might be surprised. I only just hope we get enough time to get there.
So say we all ;D
I doubt if the secret is about Alex since Casey finds out about it in the Coup t’etat. It might be something else.
And those sneak peeks were BA. I can’t wait, and what’s with the cliffhanger? What will it make us do?
And what will Chuck have to sacrifice? Ugh, so many questions. I want answers. 😀
Of course another way of looking at that is where will Chuck draw the line, what won’t he sacrifice. He already said that losing Sarah (and/or Morgan and Casey) isn’t worth information on his mother.
Thanks for the video link. Glad to see WWE is promoting Chuck! Maybe we’ll see a bump in the ratings this week. Either way, looks like a fun episode.
Thanks Mel, as you know I needed that!!
Anyone know when we might hear of additional episodes?
Hugo is clearly in the Buy More (from the video), so it’s possible he ties Chuck to the couch in the home theater toom. Then Chuck falls asleep or something and has a “Couch look”
You’re combining two different episodes – Hugo is in 4.03, “Chuck vs. the Cubic Z”. Episode 4.05 is “Chuck vs. the Couch Look”.
We got a new episode title for episode 9. I don’t have the link, but it’s called Chuck vs Phase Three.
Can I join in the ‘fans’ pre pre episode melt down and freak out and calls to cancel the show as clearly thats what we need right now! Grabs popcorn and drink. I saw some clips for Cubic Z and I’m excited and based off the pictures AB and JG took for ep 5 I think its going rock.
I want to join too. And you’re right those pics with AB and JG totally kick butt. 😉 I wish everyday was monday. :
Did you guys see that the name on Morgan’s “army-style” clothes is “Slackhawk”, instead of “Blackhawk”? Pretty funny. He also has a bullet hole on his sleeve, doesn’t he? And what is up with the Matrix-headset he is wearing at the Buy-More?
Sarah will get there Brighty. It’s will take some time which is wholly realistic. She loves Chuck and is perfect for him?
