Chuck vs. the Podcast 69: Girl’s Night

Gray’s away this week because of some meltdowns on his system, so Mel & Liz have the mics to themselves!

After a discussion about putting ratings into perspective, they have a lot of fun talking about some cool casting news that has broken recently, and their thoughts about “Chuck vs. the Suitcase”.

Gray’s computer is now fixed, so we’ll be back to our regular Friday release schedule this week. Until then, make sure you watch Chuck live Monday night, and take part in our live Chuck chat at ChuckTV.net!

  1. Hi Gray, Mel, and Liz,

I have really been enjoying the new season. The first two episodes have been great. I like the growth between Chuck and Sarah as they learn what it’s like to be a couple. All of the relationships seem to be working well now, even the odd ones like Morgan and Casey, or Morgan and General Beckman.

The little bearded man has really come in to his own. He exhibited brilliant management insight in recruiting the old Buy More crew to give the Buy More a more “secure” cover—that was hilarious, but so true. Like Devon, I too would be suspicious if my local store was full of “John Casey” types. Don’t get me wrong—I really love Casey, and I always want more Casey. But while “Stepford CIA Agents” at the Buy More might seem like a good idea, it would have to self destruct sooner or later.

I am still waiting for Chuck to come clean with Ellie and Devon about being a spy again. And I think there is a real gap in the Sarah and Ellie relationship. I understand why Ellie is comforted in thinking that Chuck is no longer a spy and is now safely working at the Buy More. But I don’t get how Ellie seems to be OK that Sarah (the woman that is in Ellie’s own words “so right for Chuck”) remains in the spy world where she could be killed on her next mission.

Ellie needs to have a serious heart-to-heart with Sarah to clear the air. That might be a good premise for Ellie to argue that Sarah and Chuck can’t have a normal family life, which would force Sarah to convince Ellie (and herself) that it IS possible … with someone like Chuck.

Sarah could use Ellie throughout the season to be a sounding board when questions about home and family life are just a little too foreign for her. Chuck can help, but Sarah really needs a woman’s perspective. Sarah needs a relationship mentor as much as Chuck needs a spy mentor.

I hope some good Sarah and Ellie bonding time is coming up in future episodes. Other than that, season 4 has exceeded by expectations.

Keep up the good work on the podcasts.

    • I agree this show has gotten better the first episode felt like i was watching a movie

    • I like the idea of the relationship-mentor-figure. I think they could explore this more and have Sarah talk a bit with Ellie about this kind of things. I just think Ellie would not talk to Sarah about Sarah leaving the CIA because Ellie is not in a position in which she could/should interfere that much in Sarah’s life. She can be there if Sarah wants to talk, and Sarah can be there for her if Ellie wants to talk, but I think giving her opinion about Sarah’s professional life is a bit too much.
But you are right, they should have more Sarah-Ellie moments.
By the way, I just realized that except Sarah, every other woman Chuck “fell for” (Jill, Lou, Hanna) were brunettes. It is good to see that Sarah doesn’t fit in this pattern.

  2. I wondered if the intent of the writers was that the photographs of the bikini clad Kurchova that Beckman was showing to Team Bartowski were so different from the usual reconnaissance photos because they were high fashion professional photographer quality and Chuck was noticing the difference in quality of the composition, not just the subject of them, and everyone misunderstood him to be just ogling the babe.

Did you follow that convoluted sentence?

Whatever…It really wasn’t clear from the way it was acted out.

    • That’s exactly what I thought. Chuck is a smart guy to know when a picture is well shot, and that one was very good. And he is not stupid enough to drool for a woman in front of Sarah. I think he was misunderstood just like you said.
I think he was shocked by the “not grainy and in weird angles” picture and just blurted it out without thinking it through.

      • Nah, simpler explanation, Chuck’s a man and he has eyes. I know I check out any pretty girl that I see let alone stunningly beautiful ones. Besides when Beckman tries to move the briefing on and comments on Sofies attractiveness Chuck’s face is not one of a man evaluating the framing of a photo. So far there in S4 there has been an attractive woman in every episode besides Sarah, Chuck has had a quick look everytime before moving on. But he’s loyal to Sarah and we know he still checks Sarah out every chance he gets and appreciates her.
