It’s not quite an official announcement, but as we’ve been speculating for a few weeks, sources indicate that NBC is thisclose to announcing a back 9 pickup for Chuck (meaning they will order 9 more episodes for this season). Here’s the scoop from EW.com:
And now for some Chucking unbelievable news: Chuck is on the verge of receiving a full-season pickup from NBC, sources confirm to me exclusively. Although a Peacock rep declined to comment, insiders tell me the network and Warner Bros. Television are ironing out the final details of the back-nine order as we speak.
Earlier this month, Chuck cocreator Josh Schwartz expressed cautious optimism about his little-show-that-could surviving past its initial order of 13 episodes. “NBC is really happy with it creatively,†he said. “This is Chuck. We never say die.â€
Currently in its fourth season, Chuck has become a steady performer for NBC on Mondays at 8 pm. And in this climate, steady is the new up! Let the celebration begin in the comments section! BTW, Chuck is all new tonight!
If we were of a gambling nature, we’d bet on an announcement after ratings are released tomorrow.
I’ll hold off on my screaming and dancing celebration until the official announcement. CAN we gamble on when the announcement will be made?
I go for Friday! 😀
I would say that the announcement would be made by Friday. I do agree that I will not celebrate until the official press release comes out.
Ditto Michael. I never thought we’d get a six episode order much less nine! Eeep, trying to hold my squealing till final wording too. 😮 I’m so thrilled.
Well done to NBC for seeing sense.
Hopefully…
Fingers crossed Chucksters!
I guess Adam Baldwin and General Beckman will be cancelling their appearance at FARPOINT CON in February. Bummer, but more CHUCK is a heck of a good trade off!
What? Did I miss something. 😕
quoting Awesome… “this is… outstanding”
I agree with what a couple of you already said.. Hold of the celebration until it’s official! But unofficially I’m pretty excited about this!
I agree to wait on partying but if we do get it, then there is a good chance of getting a season 5:)
Hopefully NBC is finally seeing the true gem they have in CHUCK. If they announce an order for 9 more episodes this season we can start working on SEASON 5. I can’t imagine a week without my CHUCK FIX:o)
Pre-emptive squeeeeal anyway. (Just couldn’t keep it in.)
Can I say something?
Syndication.
It’ll be a while yet, of course. But it’s possible.
I am so freaking happy to hear this!!!! I am holding back until we officially hear….but this made my crappy day so happy! 🙂
Finally some news! I don’t get why people don’t watch this show…ITS AMAZING!
This is outstanding news. In the past, news of this nature always came to fruition. No reason to not continue to think the same.
Wait…wait a second……..WHHAAAAAAAATTT? Whats that I hear Chuck haters? Chuck isn’t going to get a back order WHHHHAAAAAAATT? No chance of a Season 5 WHAAAAAAAAT?? Eat your words, we fricken told you. That’s called true television passion right there, something ya’ll don’t understand. This is great news! Lets keep those ratings high and push forth into talks of a next Fall pickup Chucksters! 😀
I’m super excited!!!!! I figured we would get an order for more episodes, but 9? I was thinking 6 like last year, but a full season is awesome! More Chuck for everyone 🙂
This is excellent news. Chuck is a great show…
Yes!!!! as Big Mike would say VICTORY!!!!
Thanks for that update Mel, I was happy to come home to great news. I just have to mention that in reading the comments out there on EW after Ausiello’s post…people are very mean on other websites and the comments are just inflammatory and make no sense. Glad that we have classy Chucksters here. Hopefully we will all maintain that class even with this new comment rating system. Well, it’s 30 minutes to showtime here. Happy Monday everyone! 🙂
Considering how amazing tonight’s episode was, this is a double whammy of outstanding Chuck bits.
…. Awesome.
keeping my fingers crossed on this one!!! hoping to get the full season this year..then next stop season 5!!! hoot hoot!!!
Goonies never say die!
Woo! I almost have to take my socks off the count the extra episodes!
I’ll “officially” celebrate when the news is “official.” But for NOW, I’m “unofficially” jumping through the roof!! A FULL 22 episode 4th Season?? Who’d a thought that would ever be possible when it looked like we were in danger of getting the axe two years ago. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK everybody!! The little show that could just keeps on going, much to the chagrin of the nay-sayers, but much to OUR delight!!!
NBC really need to know what a litte Gem they have.
I know of at least a dozen mates here in Aus that wait for each ep to watch it online every week then they also buy the box set once it is released on DVD so the Chuck fever spreads a lot further than the 6 million or so US viewers that tune in each week.
If you build it they will come.
Okay, so now we get Chuck S4.1. Won’t the writers have fun with this? Maybe we will see a Charah engagement in S4! A great day!
I think we were going to see an engagement anyways. Timewise wont the Awesome baby be due around April?
My bet is February sweeps.
Aces NBC, Aces!
Chuck is like the little engine that could. Everytime they face a mountain they just keep chugging along.
Season 5, I think I can, I think I can.
You mentioned ratings. I get the Detroit NBC station on my Sattelite dish and they preempted Chuck for a political debate. I wonder what effect that will have in the ratings.
Thankfully I was able to watch on CHCH here in Canada and then again at 11pm on the Seattle NBC station so I could see the promo. By the way next weeks episode is looking even better than this weeks – I know its hard to believe anything could top this week’s episode.
I hope they take advantage of the extended season (if it comes) to correct a small problem with the Chuck/Sarah relationship. Too many of their interpersonal scenes are too self-consciously sweet. Lots of candy floss and rainbows. Needs just a light touch of snark to give it balance. The thing I always liked about the show is the way they depicted good people with good hearts doing good things and did it without too much mawkishness. There was always enough edge to keep it from becoming “The Waltons” or “Touched By an Angel”.
We did get a little snarky Sarah last night, when she was defusing the bomb. Chuck told her to, paraphrasing here, save herself and she said, “You couldn’t have told me that BEFORE I climbed under all the lasers?” I LOL’d.
Right you are, Mel. I want more of that.
News just in – there will be no back 9 or back 6.
It’s a back 11! Yes, we’re talking 24 episodes this season!
http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/19/nbc-picks-up-chase-orders-more-undercovers/
Great news!!!
Season 1 -> 13 Episodes
Season 2 -> 22 Episodes
Season 3 -> 19 Episodes
Season 4 -> 24 Episodes
Season 5 -> 22 Epsiodes = Syndication
I see that before: Syndication. What is that means? Jaja! I’m really confused…

Back 11?!?!?! Amazing, I love chuck~ So think this means we get to meet baby Awesome?
Oh, nos!!! But I guess it’s cool that we’re gonna be getting Lots o’ Chuck in 2011… 14 episodes worth, or thereabouts!
…and wrong article comment. D’oh! This was meant for the pre-emption one!
