Coming off such a spectacular episode of Chuck into a bye week (Chuck is pre-empted November 8; the next episode airs November 15) means lots of time to speculate and discuss in the ChuckTV.net forum. If you haven’t already joined us, you should! Here are the five threads on my favorites list:
- What you LOVE about season 4: You know I’m a glass-half-full-of-Chuck kind of person, so this thread is right up my alley. Even more fun is when someone mentions something they’re enjoying and you think, “Oh, yeah, I didn’t even think about that!”
- Season 4 Spoilers: As the name says, SPOILERS ahead! (Also, you can’t see this unless you’re registered and have posted at least once.) Chuck fans are great at piecing together all the little bits of information and coming up likely scenarios, often getting it almost exactly right. But when we fail, we do it in style.
- Season 4 Weekly Ratings Thread: In addition to the upward trend in the ratings, it’s been (mostly) fun to talk about the numbers and watch as fans get more savvy about what they mean and how they impact Chuck. It’s also fun when we get to thumb our noses at naysayers (*cough*MarkBerman*cough*) when Chuck succeeds.
- The Timeline: This is a new thread, one no one has tackled in previous seasons, and I find it both interesting and mindboggling, trying to figure out how time works in the Chuck‘verse.
- Introduce Yourself: Not a thread but a collection of threads where newbies introduce themselves and we try to assure them that they’ve entered a sane, sensible place to talk about Chuck. Little do they know…
The timelines are usually useful and I’ve been able to decipher some generalities such as the ages of Chuck, Morgan, Sarah, Casey and Alex. In September 2010 Chuck turned 29. We know because we know Morgan’s age (“I’m 27 and still sleep with the same Tron posterâ€: vs. the Beefcake 2 March 2009), and that Morgan and Chuck are the same age (“Chuck has been my friend since we were sixâ€: vs. the Beard). So if Chuck was 27 in March 2009, he turned 28 in September 2009, and 29 this year. Casey’s daughter Alex was born in 1989 or 1990 (“Honduras 1989″ caption: vs. the Tic Tac). And as of 8 December 2008 Sarah was 28 (Per Chuck in “the DeLoreanâ€), so she turns 30 at some point prior to December of this year. Casey’s driving license is pulled from his wallet in “the Couch Lock†and shows DOB: 02-27-64 (Adam Baldwin’s real DOB is 02-27-62!) But the timelines are not always consistent, such as the flashback scene in “the Best Friend†from season 2.: Chuck saves Morgan from being beaten up by a girl, they are 11 or 12 year old in that scene and the caption reads “1992″. Yet “the Anniversary†flashback where Mama B reads Chuck a bedtime story is captioned 1994 and shows Chuck to be 2-3 years younger! The show runners were always considerate to those of us who follow such things, but dropped the ball in this instance. And no matter how many people have tried to explain to me in any number of ways how the “6-slash-9 month anniversary†deal adds up, it doesn’t. Alas, the whole premise of the show requires a willing suspension of disbelief to enjoy it properly, so I reluctantly overlook these things, thereby serving the greater good of remaining a true Chuckaholic.
I love checking in on the thread following appearances of the ‘bracelet’. I love that everyone seems to agree with the importance of this item, and as I am usually too enthralled with the episodes while watching I like to go back and catch it’s appearance, but I usually need the help of my fellow Chuck fans.
the current episode discussion is a love/hate one for me. Being in the UK I usually only watch Chuck on Tuesday or Wednesday, which means I have to try to stay away from this thread until then (the hate side), but I love the thoughts and discussions expressed here and I think it’s one of the strongest forums I have been apart of.
