After a two-week hiatus, Chuck returned last night with a mixed ratings bag. The fast overnights show that approximately 5.55 million viewers tuned in to see Summer Glau face off with JEFFSTER and Rob Riggle try to scare the Intersect back into operation. That’s the most total viewers since the season premiere. However, “Chuck vs. the Fear of Death” scored a 1.8 in the 18-49 advertiser demo, the lowest demo number so far this season. Maybe a bunch of Chuck viewers just turned 50? Or maybe having the game pre-empted in my neck of the prairie for KU basketball had an impact.
The Event (1.7) and Chase (1.2) continued to fall, making that schedule shake up look even better.
It’s a mixed bag at face value, but unfortunately the 18-49 demo is the one that actually matters. Total viewers is a press release stat, nothing more. Hopefully it goes up to a 1.9 in the finals.
Also, Event and Chase didn’t fall. They’re steady from last week – which at 1.7 and 1.2 is not a good sign for those 2 shows.
Oh, I’m also curious about the half hour numbers, as I felt last night’s episode was a little weak for this season.
And was there an over-run in the US? I know the last minute or so got cut off by my PVR north of the border.
When total viewers holds relatively stable week to week, the Demo is GOING to fluctuate based on what viewership the other networks are getting.
The break did not help at all, chuck is not a show that benefits from any breaks and the momentum built from first fight should have given us a 2.1/2.2, but the break did us in. I can only hope with the promo for next week being the most awesome I ever seen will get back that lost 0.2!
I just hope fans don’t start panicking over this. NBC definitely has faith in the show, or it wouldn’t have gotten a back 11, and it wouldn’t still be the anchor for Monday nights going into early 2011.
Apparently someone didn’t get that the ‘fans turning 50’ was a joke.
They can mock anyone they want *accept* ChuckTV.net *glares fiercely* 😉
Whoops, I meant ‘except’! Got all caught up in my tirade. 😉
its seems to be we always get killed when we get a forced break, either a preempted show or a holiday. Which is why i hate it every time NBC messes with the show time. I don’t think I have seen a show that gets messed with as much as CHUCK. You would think with the bad ratings every time we take a break NBC would have learned by now. I guess such is not the case.

i thought last night’s episode would have done better than a 1.8 but last nights MNF game was amazing so i can see why chucks ratings went down hopefully they will go up to a 1.9 in the final ratings and i also think this episode was more or less a set up for next weeks episode, which looks awesome, and hopefully the ratings will be up for Chuck vs the phase 3
Is the next episode next week or the week after?
Next week.
I guess we can take some solace in the fact that we were the best performer of all the NBC shows that night.
Sorry its my fault – I did turn 50, but don’t you dare tell me I have to stop watching Chuck now.
Happy B-Day, Gord!
Finals posted over at PiFeedback. No change in Chuck’s 1.8 demo, and total viewers dropped to 5.427m putting it slightly behind last episode’s 5.47m.
it always does this when their breaks. Also did not help with no promotion either. Hope it goes back up. Plz let it go back up
Remember the conventional wisdom at the beginning of the season? NBC was not promoting “Chuck” too heavily because it wanted to put all its promo muscle behind the new shows. After all, that’s “how it’s done”. Well, how did that work out? The new shows are tanking, NBC is scrambling around frantically, moving this show and that. If they would only pull out all the stops and get behind “Chuck†with some solid promo, they would build on one of the firmest foundations they have and stabilise the rest of the night’s lineup, no matter which shows they happen to be. Even on a bad night, “Chuck†has the numbers that the failing shows wish they had. What a squandered opportunity not to capitalise on that.
This show is DONE! Even with their shameful hour-long promotion of Subway… Jeff and Lester are just plain creepy; I thought Michael Jackson is dead but instead, he reincarnated as Lester on Chuck.
This is actually good news for Ms. Strahovski who can finally have a real career doing big screen movies instead of being dragged down by this increasing annoying nerd-fest. Don’t get me wrong, nerdy shows are awesome, but not every show can be The Big Bang Theory and Chuck is just one whiny nerd who is starting to really get on my nerves! Ugh!
Chuck is not done. I’m looking forward to the remaining *15* episodes of Chuck in its longest season yet.
Way to depress people SarahFanBoy. 🙁
i blame call of duty black ops
