The winner of the first ever TV Guide cover poll was revealed today, and it wasn’t Chuck. Alas, those Winchester boys beat out Team Bartowski for the cover. But hold your cries of cheating and foul play; perhaps this isn’t such a bad thing. Many fans, ‘though voting as much as they could, wished that the timing of the cover would be better. Chuck is on hiatus until January 17, so how much traction could it gain from this kind of exposure in December? The editors at TV Guide can’t help but conclude that a Chuck cover would be well-received by fans, so perhaps we’ll get one after all – in a few weeks when Chuck is on the air and can truly benefit.
No matter what, Chuck fans did a fine job of rallying for our show and letting TPTB at TV Guide know that we want to see it grace the cover of their publication.
words of wisdom 🙂
but it was a fun task after all 🙂
Totally agreed.
And we should also be thankful that we have 14 more episodes to go 🙂
TV Guide results and no Chuck:It’s a torture
Although I’ve never seen “CHUCK” on its cover, “Entertainment Weekly” is usually way more “Chuck-friendly” and has far more “Chuck-content” that TV Guide does.
It would have been nice to win, but congrats to the Supernatural fans.
I’ll be happier with an up-tick in the ratings when we return on January 17th – and a SEASON 5! Now that the TV Guide thing is out of the way, THAT’S what we need to focus our efforts on.
Remember, we are CHUCK fans! And we stop at nothing (short of anything illegal or dishonest) to save our show!!
When you put it like that, you’re probably right that the traction we’d get from a TV Guide cover during the hiatus would be limited. Having said that, I think that we shouldn’t wait for TV Guide to give us a cover closer to Jan. 17th, and I think we should come up with some kind of new fan awareness campaign in the meantime.
Like everyone else, my first reaction after hearing that Chuck did not win was that it is better to get a cover photo in January than it is now when the show is not airing.
The most important thing to understand here is that this is not a defeat. We did not waste 2 weeks of our time voting for Chuck. We did actually make a difference and hopefully the people at TV Guide and NBC will see that.
It’s now more important than ever to remain positive and continue to support Chuck in whatever ways you can. There will be more polls, more contests and more campaigns to participate in.
As the writers say, This is Chuck: we never say die.
I read in a comment during the voting that a Supernatural fan was so intrigued by these “Chuck” fans who were obviously as passionate about their show as she was about hers that she decided to check out The Pilot, enjoyed it, watched the rest of the first three seasons and has now caught up and is a true blue “Chuck” fan. Warms the heart. 😉
If the voting was close or very heated or both, our show may get a mention in text in any case. And a cover closer to season 4(b) would be better in the long run. Thanks, TV Guide, for a fun poll!
FYI, Spoiler TV has stated that Episode 415 will be titled “Chuck vs. the Cat Squad.”
One way to continue to show “Chuck-support,” especially during the hiatus – is to BUY CHUCK STUFF for friends for Christmas/Holiday gifts. (Hey, I don’t benefit from this in anyway – no “stock” in WB or NBC or any of that).
If we haven’t already purchase CHUCK DVD’s for friends and family, this holiday season would be PERFECT time to introduce the show to them with a “gift” of Season 1. By now, S1 is out there at various stores and online on various web outlets and is pretty inexpensive.
Give the gift the Christmas (or whatever December holiday you celebrate) that keeps on giving. CHUCK!! Trust me. Get someone to watch S1, and they’ll be wanting to see S2!!
And PLEASE, PLEASE all you good people – during this hiatus, when you obviously have nothing else to watch since CHUCK is off the air – go to NBC.COM or HULU.COM and watch and watch and watch again, again and again recent episodes of CHUCK. You know you want to – and that it will put a smile on your face. Just as importantly, it will put a smile on the people “behind” CHUCK. Every web/online view is another “hit” to that site – that site which contains advertising.
I don’t know if CHUCK is available on itunes yet this season, but if it is, GO FOR IT. Or try downloading episodes through AMAZON.
We need to remember what we’ve had to remember each season – it takes effort (and yes, even $$) on our part to help keep our beloved show on the air. So WATCH CHUCK on nbc.com and hulu.com – and if you can fit it in your budget, BUY CHUCK STUFF for holiday gifts – either the DVDS or the misc. “stuff” from the NBC.COM site.
Take care, all. And “Keep on Chuckin’!!!”
Ohh come on…At least a cover on TV magazine would be compensation about the hiatus
My hat is off to the Supernatural fans, I know how hard we Chuck fans worked at getting that cover and they put in quite an effort too. During the contest it was a see-saw back and forth as to who was in the lead and they managed to pull it off.
Regardless, those of us who participated should recognized that we pulled together for a common cause, that was noticed by all. Sure its a little disappointing, but as noted with Chuck being in hiatus it probably would not give us much traction anyways.
As for cheating, maybe I’m naive but if they were able to cheat that would have been an incredible hack, because every now and then I managed to mess up the Kaptcha, so I don’t know how a machine could have handled it.
Congrats Supernatural – you won fair and square.
Well, I for one am impressed. Chuck fans (and, let’s face it, Tangled) have really drawn my attention to this show. I think I’m going to have to start watching it now. 😀
Yay, well guys at least we got one new fan out of this =)
hi! welcome to Chuck! I’ve also gotten my nephews and nieces excited for Tangled… and my whole family knows I’m an avid Chuck fan. Enjoy!
people still buy tv guide?
Yeah! I love Supernatural just as much as I love Chuck! So either way, I would be happy for either one. TV guide is kind of mean toward Chuck but also to Supernatural, at least last time I had a subscription they hardly talked about either show. Instead, they are very heavy on CBS and ABC shows like Desperate Housewives or Grey’s Antonmy. Not my cup of tea.
Congrats Supernatural! We’ll get them next time, Chucksters!
P.S. New fan, yeah!
I only bought a subscription to TV Guide for a Chuck cover–guess I will let it expire in a few month–of course I would reconsider if it had a January Chuck cover–possibly any Chuck cover.m Enjoyed the competition !!
I do hope that Chuck will get some sort of featured cover in the future. If there is one in January, that would be awesome, but I haven’t seen anything to confirm that as a possibility.
I won’t lie….I’m really disappointed. It would’ve been great to see the cast of CHUCK on the TV Guide cover!
Wow. I gotta say that I was really bummed when I heard Chuck didn’t win the cover poll, but after seeing this post and reading everyone’s comments, I am reminded of how lucky and proud I am to be part of the Chuck-verse. Instead of seeing lots of bitterness and anger, I’m reading comments of optimism and encouragement, and it brings a smile to my face.
Maybe that is part of what makes us as Chuck fans so special… Things don’t usually come easy for Chuck and its fans, but we continue to fight. We may not have won this battle, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bounce back and still win the war. Our voice was definitely heard and it sounds as though we got a few more Chuck fans in the process!
So thanks not only to you Mel, Liz and Gray, but to all the other Chuck fans out there that have chosen to take the high road and be gracious in defeat, and positive in outlook. Thanks for making my day a little better, and making me proud to be a Chuck fan!
Great job everyone! We’ll get ’em next time!
Very well said. I am proud to be part of the Chuck-verse too.
another way to support chuck is to support http://emmy4yvonne.com/ Yvonne is amazing and really deserves an emmy especially for Chuck vs. Phase Three!!!
Gah! Do we know how close it was?
Apparently 20000 votes.
