NBC sure seems to want to share some Chuck reruns with us while we’re on hiatus, so despite canceling the repeats originally slated for December 20 and 27, they’ve scheduled “Chuck vs. the Fear of Death” to air Monday, January 3 at 8/7c before a special “where are they now” episode of The Biggest Loser.
Can I get a tentative “woohoo”? New episodes of Chuck return January 17.
good to hear, but they could’ve picked a better episode.. Phase 3 on January 3 anyone?
I’m betting that’s planned for 1/10, the week before new episodes return.
I hope so. Fear of Death is one of two episodes that did nothing for me.
I understand why it was shot. Needed to set up vs Phase Three. But the execution of it was really bad, IMO. By 8:20pm I was hoping the episode would only be 30 minutes long.
They could have cut out 1/3 of the ever escalating Fear of Death situations, and the episode would have beem better.
IMO, it would be better to show vs Fear of Death and vs Phase Three back to back on the same night.
Jon you are correct that is the episode–I hope Mel is right and we get it Jan. 10–Best episode to date in season 4.
Why Fear of Death? I think it’s the worst episode of the season and the only one that I have no interest in rewatching.
My guess is that they plan to repeat 4.08 on 1/3 and 4.09/4.10 on 1/10 leading to the return of new episodes on 1/17. Just a guess, though.
I sure hope you’re right. That would be a GREAT idea!!
I, too, think “Phase Three” would be the far better choice. But I’m wondering – is “Fear of Death” the episode which had Summer Glau in it? The reason I ask is two-fold. First, it would help “promote” her new series on NBC, “The Cape,” which I believe starts January 9th. Second, and just as important, there were at least five “over the top” appearances of SUBWAY sandwiches in that episode.
So help me out – was “Fear of Death” the Summer Glau & “Over the top” SUBWAY episode, or was it something else. If it IS/WAS, then I can understand the rationale in re-running it. Promote (in a small way) you’re soon to be premiered new show, and REALLY promote your #1 advertiser. If “Fear of Death” wasn’t the episode with those two things, then I have NO IDEA why they would chose that one of all the episodes of this season!
Yes, this is the episode with Summer Glau.
This was one of Nicholas Wootton’s 2 episodes to date (both eps were weak). This is the same guy who wrote for “Law and Order” during its last few years of decline. I’m not sure what sort of coup it was getting him on “Chuck”‘s writing staff this year. Phil Klemmer is on the way back which is marginally good news. So many better episodes to choose from!
gotta agree, phase 3 has been one of the best episodes so far..
We’re narrowing the gap, but STILL behind CASTLE in the EOnline vote for best TV program of 2010. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE at this link: http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b216641_whats_best_tv_show_of_2010_vote_now_in.html
Let’s not have a repeat of the “Supernatural” incident!!!
Take care all, and PEACE!
I agree that Chuck vs. Phase 3 is the stronger episode, but I also think Chuck vs. the Fear of Death is unfairly criticized by blog posters. As Rick mentioned, Summer Glau was awesome in this episode (one of the better uses of the hit or miss “Gretas” this season). Rob Riggle and Zach Levi played off one another extremely well, Chuck showed (again) that he was useful even without the interect, and I really liked Riggle’s over the top zest for life and adventure. I was really disappointed they killed him off in the end. I was hoping that even if his theories about the reason for the suppressed intersect were wrong, he could possiby return in a future episode. Oh well, whatever it takes to bring in more viewers. That this show isn’t more popular continues to frustrate me. Honestly, if Big Bang Theory (which I like) can bring in a gazillion viewers, why aren’t all those people watching Chuck?!
Blame NBC for airing it in probably the worst time slot in existence. Also blame the stupid reality trash that is DWTS.
I know it’s a tough time slot, but I don’t really buy that there is much overlap between viewers that like Dancing with people you’ve barely heard of and Chuck. Once a show that even hints at serialization is established, it’s really hard to build an audience, even though in this case it would take no effort to know what is going on.
SpyTv Says: I kind of liked him too–perhaps he could have fallen into a snow bank and it cushiioned the fall, slowed the blood flow from his wound and also slowed his hear rate, all making it possible for him to be rescued–ahhhh, only in the world of Chuck.
There may be good reasons for picking the shows to replay but I doubt they get us any new viewers.
I like Castle but there is no reason we cannot vote Chuck #1–I feel we let the show down with the TV Guide defeat–we need to really hit it with this–let’s all get in there and vote, vote, vote–a season 5 may ride on it.
