RATINGS: Chuck Returns With Season High!

Sorry for the delay in reporting, Chucksters. Just fighting off the remnants of the flu over here. It’s worth the wait, though: Chuck returned from a 7-week hiatus with a ratings season high! “Chuck vs. the Balcony” earned a 2.0 in the 18-49 demographic, tying the season high from way back in September, and was watched by approximately 6.1 million viewers.

Three cheers for Chuck!

Updated 01.19.11: TV By The Numbers has the final ratings from Monday night and Chuck got bumped to a 2.1! That’s a season high!

  1. This is excellent news…can’t wait for the enxt one!

  2. Yay!! That’s great news! What an amazing episode with such an emotional ending! Definitely one of my favorites this season!

  3. The first half hour actually got a 2.1.

  4. It is great news. I hope fifth season will come!!!

  5. Mel opened up the window and in flew Enza. Sorry to hear about that. The rest of the news was great though. Perhaps showing reruns during the break allowed some viewers to catch the Chuck bug. Let’s hope it goes pandemic!

  6. Holla! I knew the reruns were a smart move! Feel better Mel. 🙂

  7. Definitely good news after such a long spell without Chuck! Hopefully NBC will continue to promote the next two episodes leading up to Fedak and Swartz’ predicted best 10 minutes of Chuck ever. Hope you get feeling better soon Mel!

  8. Me oh so VERY happy! 🙂

  9. WOOHOO! I had a blast this episode. The first half seemed very story oriented and the second half I couldn’t stop laughing. Thank god Chuck didn’t propose I was scared for a second thinking this is how it was going to happen.

Get better soon Mel! That flu hit a lot of people hard around here this time last month, kicked me on the floor for 2 weeks.

  10. get well soon Mel, loving reading your articles and always deliver the best chuck news like this. this is brilliant, what a superb episode all the times chuck kept trying to propose and gets thwarted. i so felt his pain though when sarah left for volkoff at the end. Loved it.

  11. Yay! We couldn’t have had a better start to 2011 half of the season. What kind of competition were we facing Mel?

    • Short version:

Last night was much stronger competition than Chuck had for the fall finale, but weaker than most of the fall.

      Long version:

The Bachelor, House and HIMYM/Rules of Engagement were all new episodes last night, while 90210 was a re-run. House, HIMYM and Rules of Engagement were about as strong as they were in the fall (not season highs, but not season lows). The Bachelor was much stronger competition than Skating with the Stars (which Chuck was up against for the fall finale), but much weaker than Dancing with the Stars. The 90210 re-run was well below new episode numbers, but new episode numbers for it are still a distant 5th place in the timeslot.

  12. That’s very good news. A 2.0 off the overnight. Once the DVR ratings come in, it should go up to a 2.3-2.5 which will be great. I thought NBC finally did some smarter things during the holiday break. I think all the reruns definitely helped. Also, I was very happy to see NBC actually promoting the show. They aired some promos over the course of the break and then during the Golden Globes. Additionally, now that we’re into the new year, there are a few big things no longer on the air that are helping reduce the competition: Monday Night Football (at least I think it’s over since it’s the playoffs now), and DWTS is also off air. Of course, the other reality trash show the Bachelor replaced it, but I don’t think the Bachelor is as popular as DWTS. It’s still popular, but at least it doesn’t dominate the night.

For me the episode was ok. I was enjoying it a lot until they arrested Sarah for treason. Of all the episodes that have had “almost but not” or “almost but no” scenes, this one sure had the most I’ve seen in a long time. I hope everyone knows what I mean by “almost but not”. I can’t think of another way to describe those scenes. Mel, do you know if there’s actually a name for them? My favorite scenes were when Sarah turned Morgan into a double agent and when Casey sat down at the computer to help Morgan. And, I also think that since Sarah doesn’t want to be surprised with the proposal the beach again a good idea. The next 2 episodes are going to be interesting. I also can’t wait for Carina and Roan to come back and find out what they think now that Chuck and Sarah are together.

  13. THAT GREAR NEW! Awesome! Im dancing! 🙂

  14. YES! finally we’re getting somwhere!

  15. Gotta love it… The ratings just got adjusted up to a 2.1

  16. Well, this just got better…

Chuck got adjusted up in the finals to 2.1 – a bona-fide, uncontested, not tied with anything season high.
