Back when Chuck first arrived on our screens, many fans found his sidekick annoying and immature. Fast forward 3 1/2 years and fan appreciation for Morgan Grimes has soared as the little bearded guy has matured and proven himself to be someone worth knowing. So this week, as we kick off the most romantic month of the year, here’s a list of reasons to love one Morgan Guillermo Grimes.
- He’s loyal – Even when he didn’t know why Chuck was skipping out on the Buy More with increasing frequency, Morgan had his back. Now that he’s part of Team Bartowski, woe to anyone who threatens them.
- He’s an optimist – Sure, he’s had his dark moments, his bouts with self doubt, but in the end Morgan is the one who is confident that everything will work out OK in the end. Hot.
- He’s kind – Whether he’s remembering to put the ring and the earpiece in Chuck’s jacket pocket or apologizing to Casey for not calling him his best friend, Morgan cares about your feelings.
- He’s funny – He may not intend to be funny, but he does have a way with a one-liner. Laughter is an aphrodisiac, you know.
- He’s a yoga master – Ahem. I’m just saying, bendy with plenty of stamina comes in handy in a variety of situations.
Sorry for the delay in posting today’s Friday Five; I had it mostly finished, then got distracted. Thanks to DoctorBob for the gentle reminder. 😉 So what reasons do you have for loving Morgan now? (You don’t have to have loved him from the start; we won’t judge.)
One word: Barstow! I really believe that Devine intervention makes chuck and Sarah’s relationship all the more special because at that point they were not ready emotionally. So bravo Morgan.
I have loved that Morgan and Sarah have been good friends and how he is always supportive of Chuck and Sarah’s relationship. I have always liked the funny moments between them! 😀 thanks Mel for yet another great Friday Five! 🙂
I love that too, one of my favourite memories of chuck is when chuck said to sarah in first date that morgan has always believed that chuck and sarah were real and was supportive of their relationship….that is loyalty!
In Chuck Vs. The Beard when he finds out that the relationship was fake, he knew otherwise b/c how Chuck looked at Sarah. He’s a “Connector” and I love how he has progressed throughout the series.
Oh and the fact that 3 of the meetings between morgan and sarah, sarah has been totally intimidating towards the little bearded one…
I love that he’s a chuck and sarah shipper. He was rooting for them all along. Ok at the beginning when he thought Ellie’s engagment was meant for sarah he was upset that he was losing his best bud but, after 3 1/2 years he was the one helping chuck come up with the perfect plan to propose to a ‘super spy’
Great topic, Mel, and well worth the wait! I love how he gave advice to Awesome: how to set up the perfect night for Ellie: all the things he remembered that she liked when they were schoolkids. It was a disaster but he never intended to sabotage Devon. He meant well, that furry little bastard!
You know, I’ve always had my doubts about that. Morgan was and probably still is a close observer of all things Ellie. It seems unlikely that he wouldn’t have picked up on at least a few of her preferences beyond the 6th grade.
I always took it to mean that his fantasies about Ellie suffered from arrested development, and that Morgan’s immaturity and naïveté were the true culprits.
I must say until this season I’ve always found the Morgan Grimes
character to be nothing more than annoying comic relief. This
year however he has matured and become a solid member of
team B.
Morgan’s complete disreagard for his own personal safety when he can say/do something to help a friend (or Casey). Maybe he’s too stupid to know he’s rattling the tiger’s cage, but even in the face of some pretty scary intimidation and threats, he sees his “mission” through to the end. And people profit from it in spite of themselves. And then Morgan makes it better with a little “pshaw” and a hand swipe.
Morgan Grimes, a man for our times! (And, yes, that rhymes!) 😉
The most important reason to love Morgan, for beeing the connector between the different storylines and characters, especially in season 4.
#1 reason to love Morgan: “No plan? Never stopped me before.”
I love Morgan because he’s got balls. He’ll let a Bengal tiger chase him, break his thumbs and risk himself getting shocked by electricity to save his friends, and use his Yoga Seal skills to go through lasers.
He never panics, which makes him fine for coordinating missions. Now if only Casey can train him in self-defense, and Sarah can teach him how to handle knives (he can already handle hibachi knives, right?), he’d be all set.
In hindsight there was a glimpse of what makes Morgan cool now in the ballerina scene from the pilot. When Chuck clicked into hero mode and said “Morgan, I need the wall” Morgan simply said “You’ve got it” and hopped to it. No hesitation, no questions. It said a lot about both characters that that was how they instinctively reacted long before they got involved in the spy business.
I share the same thought on that subject, vraspir. Morgan and Chuck has always had that solid loyalty and that quality in their friendship has always proven to save them in more than one dangerous situation.
