Ratings news is in for last night’s episode, Chuck vs. the Cat Squad. It held steady at 1.7 for adults 18 – 49. This is still impressive since other shows in the same time slot dropped from last week. And The Cape continues to slide, which I’m sure is as disappointing to NBC as it is to me. Harry’s Law fell too, which just makes Chuck look even better as NBC’s little show that could.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the possibility of Nerd HQ’s return. Well, …
Mel…. What’s the panic point? A 1.5 ?
It’s all about context. If Chuck gets a 1.5 during a week when everything else slides the same percentage, it’s cause for concern but not panic. If Chuck had a 3.0 and everything else had a 7.0, that would be panic-inducing. See what I mean?
BTW, Liz has taken over the ratings posts, so if you ask me a question here in the comments, I won’t see it right away.
Thanks for the info. I feel alittle better.
I’m still not keeping my hopes up. Yeah, negative nancy.. but I’d rather just not care about ratings too much and focus on how much fun I’m having with Chuck now that super-serious-mode arc is out of the picture.
It makes sense that Chuck wouldn’t drop as much as other shows. In my opinion it is the ideal Valentines Day show.
Yeah, but this wasn’t even our V-Day episode, that’s next week.
So we get to celebrate twice!! 🙂
Well, I told everyone I knew that I refused to believe it was Valentine’s Day because THAT episode was next week. Everyone will be getting chocolates and flowers one week late from me… 😉 haha.
I don’t really know what networks look at when deciding to renew a show but considering Chuck gets ZERO promotion and holds a 1.7 rating has got to mean something. They promote Harry’s Law every commercial break and it is also at a 1.7.
When they do bother to promote the show, it shows in the ratings, around 2.0. And how could they have dropped the ball so badly as to not have the Valentine’s episode ready to air on the day itself. Holiday eps usually show up before the day, but here we got lucky enough to have the holiday actually fall on the regular air day, and NBC still couldn’t get it right! When was the last time you saw a holiday ep air after the holiday. That’s like showing “It’s a Wonderful Life” on New Year’s Day.
I agree … Poor scheduling. Was it Season 2 that the Vanlentines
ep aired late. Somebody should be in charge of continuity.
Nein. Back in the second season, due to that Obama bit being shown instead of “Best Friend” for that particular week, they decided to retain “Suburbs” on the date it was intended to be aired, and air “Best Friend” the week after (with minor continuity loss).
This season’s situation is much different. Had it not been for the Bush thing, I figured the hiatus should have been after “Balcony”, which would have given more weight to “Gobbler”, as well as have “Masquerade” fall on the air date it was meant for. Since the episodes following “Masquerade” are quite dependent on it as a prerequisite, airing it late instead of airing it before “Cat Squad” seems to be the lesser of two evils.
1.7 hmmmmm well atleast it didn’t drop. Upset about The Cape though, the show is finally starting to give us more character development. Mel, since Chuck is doing better then most of the Monday night show’s on NBC, does that mean its looking good for a season 5?

Don’t forget too….NBC aired Harry’s Law FOUR times last week–Monday, Saturday, & twice Sunday. How many episodes have aired/produced? Four times seems a little redundant! I know it’s a David E. Kelly show, but think they are trying too hard!
Exactly and it still only gets a 1.7…..just like Chuck!
I’m guessing people went out and some could’ve missed the show, which would explain the ratings not going up, after all, it was Valentine’s Day..! Anyways great to know Chuck is still doing good in comparison to other shows!
Well a certain someone saying this rating is not good not matter how you spin it. I tell you one thing if they cancel Chuck they need to just cancel everything they have on NBC right not. Hell everything across the board should not come back then. I telling you everything down on all networks. Think the only things that are doing good are House and American Idol
It could be worse. Though I wish they would bother to promote the show a little more. That way it gets back up to a 2.0 in the demo and I don’t have to hold my breathe because I don’t know if CHUCK is getting a fifth season or not. Right now all we can do is keep telling people about the show and hope for the best.
Is it wrong for me to want the Cape and Harry’s Law to do worse than Chuck? I’ll admit that the shows are enjoyable and snazzy at times, but I feel as though if Chuck stays the same in ratings and the other shows keep dropping then NBC/Comcast will want to keep Chuck for its consistency when NBC cannot create a show that lasts over a season anymore.
Nothing to feel giulty about. I have nothing agianst those
shows….. But if it’s between them and Chuck then it’s survival
of the fittist.
Since it was Valentines day, I’m a little surprised that it didn’t drop in the ratings. I’m actually quite happy it held steady.
Not great numbers but it could have been a lot worse.
I’m doing everything I can – rewatching on NBC.COM and HULU (that DOES count for SOMETHING, otherwise NBC wouldn’t advertise so much to watch the shows again on NBC.COM), but I have to tell you that even though EVERY season I’m nervous about CHUCK’s chances at renewal (we ARE after all, the perrenial “bubble” show), I’m more nervous now than ever.
I thought this was a great episode, and though it wasn’t as good as say, Chuck Vs The Push Mix, I think it’ll hold up. One place where it did excel was the handling if Sarah’s old CATs team, which I thought was handled much better than Casey’s Team from the 80’s…really both of them had so much potential and while I don’t think either team was used tot he fullest they could have been, I think this week they were a little closer to the mark. As a DISH customer and employee I look forward to catching up with Chuck every week in super-clear HD, this show just looks SO amazing in high def I can’t imagine seeing it any other way.
Will new ownership lead to more prommotion of Chuck—with a higher penalty if it does not dramatically increase viewers. I thought the Cat squad was a pretty good episode–it had it’s fun moments. Sarah with a hangover was pretty cool. I still worry about when Ellie finds out Chuck is active in the spy world.
Hold on. Valentine’s episode is yet to come? Does that mean that Casey might wind up meeting a special someone next week too? *hopeful* Poor guy needs a break!
