At the end of this week’s episode of Chuck, the announcer told us we’d see Chuck again in 2 weeks. We thought Mr. Announcer Dude meant episode 4.20, “Chuck vs. the Family Volkoff”, but NBC just released their lineup for that night and it’s actually episode 3.05, “Chuck vs. First Class.” Remember, when Chuck met Hannah? Interesting choice, don’t you think?
So it appears our original lineup was right, episode 4.20 airs April 18, kicking off the final five episodes of the season:
- April 18 – “Chuck vs. the Family Volkoffâ€
- April 25 – “Chuck vs. the Wedding Plannerâ€
- May 2 – “Chuck vs. Agent X”
- May 9 – “Chuck vs. the Last Details”
- May 16 – “Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger”
wtf? I am confused.
Chuck VS The Family Volkoff is still listed as airing on Apr 11th on MSN. I think it might stay that way as 9pm is the premier of the reworked LOLA and I think they want a repeat as the lead in.
As far as First Class goes it isn’t an interesting choice, it makes absolutely no sense. Push Mix is the most logical choice to help set up the return of Timothy Dalton. What can First Class re-airing do to advance the show or help gain an audience for the final 5? I have no idea what NBC is thinking. Why go back to the start of the trapezoid misery arc that became so divisive in the fanbase for a show barely hanging on for renewal? There is simply no logic at work here whatsoever. No wonder NBC is in trouble.
I completely agree. The premiere of the reworked LOLA is just laughable. First they tried to do another spin off of an already ancient show, but now they’re trying to launch a reworked version of it? Someone needs to wake the network up.
I also agree about re-airing First Class. That choice makes absolutely no sense at all. Why show a repeat from a season that’s not even currently relevant, let alone the episode that continued the season 3 disaster and then made it worse? This is totally illogical in every way. I new NBC was dumb, but this is just ridiculous. I don’t know what they’re thinking they’ll gain by showing that episode and I’m not going to try to figure it out because I wouldn’t get anywhere.
Haha, did they just randomize out of 73 episodes for what they were going to rerun? O well, It is a decent episode.
Thanks for clarification.
of all the episodes? Why that one? Not one of my favorites, Chuck Vs the other guy. Oh operation awesome was good too. But i think NBC is going by ratings. Also Im rooting for Chuck for S5, but we got 3 episodes this yr in 4’s and the lowest rating ever 4.2 Anychance of the CW picking up chuck or tnt?
USA seems the most likely to pick up a show like Chuck, IMO.
I think cable is a long shot. USA already has a CIA show ” Covert Affairs “. TNT has had
success with another NBC cast off ” Souhland ” , but Chuck doesn’t fit in with there crime
dramas. Another thing to remember about cable is that the budgets are far smaller, the
Cast would have to take a pay cut. Not sure Zac would go for that– there’s far better money
And a lot less work in movies.
Look the bright side of this, we can re-watch Chucks first solo mission!!
GREAT, more Shaw and Hannah. Didn’t get enough of those two the first time around. Why are they airing this? It’s should be Chuck vs. the Honeymooners.
Or, call me crazy, a repeat from the *current* season.
Yeah, “Honeymooners” was so good! Would’ve been a better choice than “First Class”! Would’ve loved to watch “Anniversary” again!
Anyways, enough with Season 3.1 !
And Mel, why do you think it’s an interesting choice? It is a bad choice! 😉
I think it’s interesting because it’s from season 3. Why did they choose that episode in particular? How does it tie into the remaining 5 episodes of this season?
Mel, I think Chuck is being used as an advertising mule again as with the GRETA’s to promote another upcoming pilot actor in Kreuk. She is signed on to do the NBC pilot 17th Precinct.
I bet you’re right. To pick an episode like that is either because of a guest actor or because of something like prominent product placement. Not that I mind seeing Kristin Kreuk again. I thought she was great as Hannah. Not K.K.’s fault that her character got shafted.
And actually, CHUCK reruns generally are so low rated that it really doesn’t matter what you put on. At least they’re putting on SOMETHING “CHUCK.” That’s better than nothing.
This makes no sense. Tell NBC that I said they’d be better off rerunning First Fight and DeLorean prior to the last five. Use the old guest spots of Dalton and Cole to promote the new guest spots of Dalton and Cole. You know those eps are going to have previous scenes from these eps in their intros.
Guest stars are supposed to help sell the show. Use them to sell themselves too.
I think mabey Hanna is coming back and that’s why they chose that ep, I don’t know mabey??
Hannah and Vivian teaming up to take down Chuck because he’s a dirty rotten liar.
I think you forgot the SPOILER ALERT!!!! in front of that, Aces. 😀
My guess is NBC doesn’t have to pay WB royalties on First Class or something like that. It’s gotta be a decision based on the cost of the rerun exclusively.
man I will be suffering severe chuck withdrawal, guss its time for another watching of seasons 1,2,3 🙂
@raphael
I Think I might be experiencing that too :(!
Hmm well it is a good episode, since i’ve watched season 1-3 maye 3 times now i guess ill just have to see it a forth, couldnt harm me!
And i just hope everyone does whatever they can to give Chuck a season 5 aswell!
This makes no sense they should repeat better s3 episodes like Other Guy or Honeymooners or better yet S4 episode Puch Mix as that would lead nicely to Volkoff.
The only thing that comes to mind is that I think First Class was supposed to get repeated over the christmas period wasn’t it or is it just that it weas one of the epiosdes repeated during a break in S3.
A Shaw episode? A SHAW episode? It’s important that the core Chuck audience stays tuned to any and all eps — including reruns — just to keep the ratings from slipping any further. But why alienate the core audience by tossing a Shaw episode at them? Hell, they may as well run vs. the Mask (or Heaven help us, Fake Name) and really do some damage. Ugh.
sniderman you are right on target. Although I am not in the mood for any reruns there are several after Sarah and Chuck got together that would be much better. Are they trying to destroy the show?
No, they aren’t trying to destroy the show. There’s a rationale behind choosing that episode (provided it’s not a typo and they meant First Fight), we just don’t know what it is yet.
Ahhhh…that would make much more sense. That was when Volkof was first introduced.
Here’s hoping that it is First Fight. Loved Timothy Dalton in that one as Tuttle. =0)
Hey, Mel–
Wouldn’t NBC have to negotiate a payment to Warners for the use of a Season 3 episode? Unless, of course, all those rumors that popped up when the back-11 are true: That NBC has some sort of ownership stake in Chuck now or will somehow participate in the revenue from downstream syndication…
Any intelligence on this? It’s very odd for a network to pay for an old episode of a show. Even odder if they are on the fence about a renewal.
Is it possible Chuck gets renewed because NBC now has a financial stake in syndicated revenue, too?
I think NBC needs to recruit a C.A.T. squad, Chuck Advisory Team, to help them figure out how to promote the show. There are so many better and more relevant episodes of Chuck they could show.
I see what you did there ChuckFan50. 🙂 But why the heck of every episode they choose that 1? I hate Shaw so I’m prolly not going to watch it again and it feels weird that Chuck and Sarah arn’t together at that moment in time. Anyways I just think there was many other episodes that could’ve been chosen that are better than this 1. 🙂
I dislike episodes 5-11 in Season 3. Basically the only episodes I don’t enjoy. So essentially they picked the worst possible episode to rerun.
Should’ve been Chuck vs the Seduction. Easily one of the greatest episodes of the series…
While this episode would not be my first, second or even 50th choice, I didn’t find it all that bad, and with Chuck having such a hard time in the ratings, I plan on watching it live.
Remember even a bad episode of Chuck is still better than just about any episode of any other TV show out there.
So the following week do they plan on rerunning Mask? Because that is one episode of Chuck I definitely wont watch.
The NCAA Final and a new Castle will save the night–hope this is not a black mark on the ratings–if it is it is their own fault. I still yearn for a new Chuck.
