Speculation on the identity of Agent X has kept us busy all week, thanks to a spoiler from Chris Fedak and a cramazing promo from NBC. We’ll find out who it is on Monday, but to get us through the weekend, I’ve rounded up my five favorite guesses.
- Morgan: “I would think season 5 with Morgan as a super-spy would be very interesting. Morgan might actually be a dormant intersect since he was a kid and using the laptop activates it.” – Ken
- Jeff: “It’s Jeff. 1) He’s a former missile command champion; 2) He’s always so dang close to the spy action – he drugged Casey’s assailant in vs. The Beard, he helped Casey out in vs. The A Team, he has good surveillance skills. That’s something you train for yo., he wrote “CIA” in a recent episode. HE KNOWS MAN. – 3) He’s a Nerd Herder. It’s either you’re really frakkin weird, or you’re special (like Chuck). Personally, I think it would be awesome. You’d have to look back at the entire 4 seasons and check where Jeff was.” – Emilky
- Ellie: “Ellie would make sense and make it seem “epic”. It would complete the spy family.” – Tim
- Mama B: “If it’s somebody we already know, and it has to be someone that wouldn’t shake up the foundation of the show e.g. (Morgan, Sarah, Ellie) so im going to go all in on Agent X being Mama B.” – Matthew
- Beckman: “My money’s on Beckman.” – Liz
Some interesting arguments have been made for Agent X to be Anna Wu, Devon, Papa B, Bryce, Vivian or even Chuck himself. Only three more sleeps until we find out, but in the meantime, vote for who you think Agent X is and post your speculation below.

I think it has to be PAPA B!!!!… WHY WOULD ELLIE KEEP LOOKING THROUGH THE PAPER AFTER HE DIED IN FRONT OF HER??? The second I saw the promo, I convinced myself it would be Ellie! Can’t wait to find out 🙂
After you finish watching the promo, you have to rule out Ellie. But I would say Ellie knows the identity of Agent X.
You have to preface any speculation with the disclamer that, on this show, logic and previous events don’t always apply.
But Agent-X is the only person that Volkoff ever feared. Doesn’t that rule out Ellie, Jeff, Morgan, etc?
To my mind, it could only be Orion, who be believe is dead. Or Frost who is probably on her way to being Erased.
My money is on Frost.
Does Volkoff even know the identity of Agent X? Not likely. Just as Chuck used the fear of Orion still being alive in Push Mix so Agent X could have been Papa B’s way to wage a psychological war with Volkoff. If that is true Agent X could be anyone.
Still another problem with Agent X being someone that Papa B. downloaded the Intersect into doesn’t really add up. He wasn’t real happy with how the government wanted to use the Intersect. Still it’s possible that the team of engineers and scientists that he was a part of did select an agent to test their invention. Clearly General Beckman seems like she is in the dark as she is still anxious to learn everything she can about the Intersect and its full potential.
Stephen revealed to Chuck in vs. Dream Job (?) that he has had to fake his death hundreds of times and that that comes with the spy territory. He also told Chuck in vs. the Ring that he (Stephen) had an intersect, that he experimented on himself with intersect research and that the intel was good. And last but not least, when Ellie showed Mama B (and spoke of) Agent X files on Stephen’s computer, Mama B said, out of Ellie’s hearing, “Oh Stephen, what have you done?” Speaking to him as if alive, not departed. I’m just sayin’…
Chris Fedak did hint it was going to be someone we know.
If he didn’t say that, I would naturally thought it was the John Casey of Team Stephen Baltowski.

Why papa b said chuck was special? it must be something about chuck!!!!
Chuck being special probably rules out morgan. It would cheapen Chuck’s specialness, if morgan, was a previous successful intersect.
However, Bryce, Shaw, the A-Team’s Vick and Rick are also supposedly “special.” So at best Chuck isn’t that special intersectwise, but its HOW he uses the intersect with his emotions that saves the day.
I picked “other” because I think it’s possible that it’s Riley, Volkoff’s supposed lawyer, who appears to know quite a bit about the CIA. Ray Wise is also a guest star in both this and the next episode.
I think It would be Shaw or Mama B. Shaw would be my 1st Choice Mama B my 2nd.
I doubt its Shaw.
Agent X has got to be someone Orion knows. Steve Baltowski knows Shaw as “the ring agent” from season 3. If he was agent X it should have been mentioned then.
Ellie. It’s been building up the whole season. It started with manipulating Jeff and Lester. She is becoming a spy unintentionally, it’s time to complete the family.
In his last computer recording to Chuck, Papa B said, “I did it all for her.” Agent X is Mama B.
For a long time, I always viewed that the relationship of Chuck being the asset and Sarah being the handler mirrored that of Stephen and Mary. Stephen was the valuable resource while Mary was the agent assigned to protect him, hence where the CIA background comes from.
I don’t buy it, if somehow Mary was also an intersect. I think she had great spy skill sets from the get go.
I read somewhere, maybe on this site that someone is kidnapped at the party by Riley’s men (someone who is not a member of team Bartowski). In a previous (4.20 I believe) Vivian Volkoff said she wanted Agent X. In 4.19 Orion’s computer scans Ellie to access Agent X files. Ellie is kidnapped by Riley’s men as she is the only person who has access to Agent X details, but is not Agent X.
I am a bit concerned about his reveal. If it is any of the main characters (or there families other then a Bartwoski), it won’t ring true to me. They would have to have some really plausible reason why it is not known already and it would be way too convenient. Also it would demean the specialness of Chuck himself. It won’t be a Buy Moron. To me that leaves Mama B, Orion, Bryce or Jill. Jill would be out because her Fulcrum timeline doesn’t seem to fit. In “Suburbs” Fulcrum was looking for anyone who could handle the Intersect and she was on the run by “Colonel” when Fulcrum was creating the Intersect Army. To me the most sense would be Orion. He didn’t die and we already knew he was an Intersect and a vigilante. Mama B would make sense also but I wouldn’t really find that very interesting. And are we to believe she was scaring Volkoff as some clandestine vigilante right under his nose? It would seem to me to demean the Big Bad Volkoff has become. That leaves Bryce. Maybe he isn’t dead and his eyes were open when Chuck downloaded 2.0. He survived and is now going by the Agent X code name.
If the person behind the door is the first intersect … are they Agent X? Why would they be such a threat since the early intersect was just information to flash on. Orion did not add the new abilities until after Chuck got his.
I am putting my money on Agent X actually not existing yet and Sarah becomes Agent X at the end of this season. I can’t picture Ellie becoming a master spy while balancing motherhood. I can see her becoming part of team Bartowski, but not Agent X.
Although my theory is toast … did the thing already contain the DNA for Agent X ??
What if it is Jill? What a great way to bring her back to the show! Think of the possibilities of storylines with that one. I would love it also if it were Ted Roark, but he is dead, isn’t he?

If it was Anna Wu I would CRAP my pants … that would be hilarious and awesome. Same thing with Jeff I think. It’ll probably be Ellie though which would still be cool to play out … but yeah I really dunno how the heck they would do that considering that Ellie has a brand new baby. It wouldn’t really make sense I guess. If it’s Mama B that would just be pretty predictable and boring.

And i believe Mama B would be the one person that wouldn’t really affect the show in any huge way. Either way 3 days is too long, cant wait for these last 3 episodes
Heres my guess. Agent X is Mama B. Volkoffs daughter said the only agent that her father feared and go close to him was Agent X. Mama B spent years inside Volkoffs operation. In a photo from the season finale, we see a hospital scene with that cast. Volkoff is there looking amazingly like he did when posing as Tuttle. So I believe that Volkoffs daughter finds out that Chuck’s mom is Agent X and goes after her to kill her. Volkoff is still in love with Mama B, so he joins forces with Chuck to save Chuck’s mom and take down his daughter.

I just don’t know. I really don’t know. Did one of the lady Bartowskis download the rudimentary Intersect like the men of the family? Did one of the friends or foes from seasons gone by come across Orion’s research? Do I want to be surprised or do I want Agent X to be consistent with the story? I just don’t know.

You say that as a joke… but wouldn’t having Bruce Boxleitner, old Scarecrow himself, be the super spy be typical of the stunt-casting the producers seem to like?
I think it could be Big Mike – there’s a pick of him in a suit in the woods…I don’t really know though, just a thought.
I can deny Bryce being a plausible candidate.
1. He is dead confirmed by Sarah throwing his ashes she mentioned in season 3.
2. Agent X is the first human intersect and Bryce has never uploaded one before Chuck.
3. Bryce’s actor is on a new show and can’t possibly have time to shoot both of them.
My Theory’s
1. Chuck will yet again recieve an update on his intersect, a update only his mind can handle because he is in Stephen’s words: ‘Special’.
His father never intended him to be in the spyworld after all so he had to create something to give him some more chance of survival.
2. The X is an acronime for a hidden agent who was protecting Chuck and has looked out for him all this time, maybe a buymore employee or maybe close family. This leaves the question, why is Ellie trying to figure our files relating Agent X ? I have no idea 😛
I think it could possibly be that Harry tang is agent X? After all, he left in season 1 for Hawai. We havent heard anythig about him since then. For all we know he could have been in super secret spy training ever since!?
We already know that Steven Bartowski downloaded a ‘beta’ version of the intersect (remember him ‘flashing’ at Ellie’s wedding reception?). So, he is the original Intersect, right?
Well obviously the only people who could possibly be “Agent X” are people who are older than Chuck. Since Chuck got uploaded a part of the intersect when he was only 10 years old!
There’s a hint in the 4.23 synopsis, Chuck and Sarah are rescuing someone.
My money is on Mama B. being Agent X.
I would love it to be either Ellie or Bryce (in my head he’s still alive and not on White Collar) or even Jill, because all are very interesting characters who have a lot of history with Chuck. But it’ll probably be someone boring like Mama B or Vivian. If it’s Morgan or a nerd, I will be disappointed.
I was watching season 1 again earlier and in episode 1, Casey and Sarah are discussing Chuck.
They briefly mention Ellie (“What about his sister?” Sarah. “What about my sister?” Chuck), but they don’t tell Chuck what they mean and it hasn’t been referenced since.
That was simply Sarah’s response to Casey wanting to take Chuck undergound and make him disappear. Sarah was asking how it would be explaqined to Ellie.
That is the correct answer !
With the history of faints from JS/CF on spoilers it really is up in the air. However, if it is one of the BuyMorons then they don’t deserve a season 5
I know the Jeff suggestion was probably tongue-in-cheek, but the more you think about it, it actually makes some sense. He’s older than the other Nerd Herders, maybe almost Casey’s age, has HAS been on the periphery of occasional spy stuff, and maybe the original Intersect fried his brain. Maybe that’s why he and Lester only drove 12 minutes away when they went on the lam after they thought they blew up the Buy More.
I DON’T think it’s him… but see, it DOES kind of fit!

next gen. S4 ep22…when Chuck opens the door to see who Agent X is,
either Mom Bartowski is standing there holding Clara in her arms or it

Actually Jeff makes a lot of sense. Having an intersect in his head might explain why he’s so weird and spaced out all the time.
It is Alexei volkoff
