SPOILERS: Season Finale Boasts ‘Expensive’ Action Sequence

TVLine has some Chuck season finale information for us this week, including how the season will wrap up but still leave a path to explore in a (potential) season 5 and just what is so expensive about the season finale.

Question: Since you are almost as big a fan of Chuck as I am, I need to know: What is your degree of confidence that the season finale can also serve as a satisfying series finale if NBC does the unthinkable and unforgivable? —Jeff
Ausiello:
To be honest, my confidence level was pretty low. But then I spoke to exec producer Chris Fedak and it shot through the freakin’ roof. Despite the finale being titled “Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger,” Fedak assured me that the episode features “some fantastic resolution to a number of the stories that we set up this season.” But as has become something of a Chuck tradition, the final scene features a “cliffhanger component that launches us very much into [a possible] Season 5,” Fedak adds. What would such a season look like? “There were a number of stories that we’ve always wanted to do – even from Season 1 – involving who Chuck is as a person and as a hero. So [Season 5] would be an extension of that.”

Question: In last week’s AA you mentioned that the Chuck season finale broke the bank, budget-wise. Care to elaborate? Do you know what was so expensive? —Jeremy
Ausiello:
The mother of all action sequences, according to Fedak. “It’s set in the desert and includes a super motorcycle, lots of special effects and a truck getting blown off the road,” he says. “It has an element of Duel, which is Steven Spielberg’s first movie. There’s also an element of Road Warrior… and an ode to the television show Street Hawk, which I watched as a kid.”

I’m starting to get a sense that the “cliffhanger” in “Chuck vs. the Cliffhanger” is indeed literal. How about you?

  1. I’ve come to the conclusion that trying to guess what they are going to do only makes your head explode.

The good news is that it’s only taken me 4 years to come to this conclusion.

Now I’m at peace with whatever they show us…

  2. After all of this time, I have a great deal of faith in Chris Fedak. No matter what we get, it will be the best the fans deserve. I bow to you Chris, you have been and always shall be my friend.

  3. From the promo for 423 (the sniper) and the picture of sarah in a hospitalgown I’m guessing the cliffhanger will be that sarah gets shot at the end of 423.

    So yes, very literal 🙂

  4. UnleashTheCasey

O… M… G. I atually remember Street Hawk. And as I recall there was a guy named Tuttle!

    • UnleashTheCasey

      That’s actually. Darned sausage fingers…

    • I was very young but I loved that show. And yes, there was a Tuttle, Norman Tuttle. I am not sure if it is sad that I remember that or great

  5. who cares. i don’t watch this show for big action scenes or stunts. i watch it for the characters, and i have to say, the second half of this season has had very little character depth to the episodes. I wish they would Stop trying to make 24 and go back to making chuck.

  6. I will not be satisfied with the season unless the “I do’s” are said–Pretty picture of Yvonne in her wedding dress in this week’s TV Guide. Fedak said he would like to do some episode’s with Chuck’s baby in a new season–now that would generate some good stuff from everyone including Sarah Walker.

    • I really want a chuck baby I can imagine chuck and sarah walking down an alley way with a pram then them gettin into a fight

  7. From the moment I heard that the finale was called ‘vs. The Cliffhanger’, I had a feeling that it might be literal. ie: some one hanging off a cliff.
    Exciting stuff.

I am a fan of chuck since the season 1… i really like the story between chuck, ellie, sarah, casey and the buy more gang.. but i do miss the times where they really got emotional especially for sarah to chuck.. i can say that chuck is my ultimate favorite show.. hope that we can get a season 5, and besides they won in emmy!! they deserve another season or more.. i really love chuck/sarah team up and hope at the season finale nothing bad will happen to sarah, and im really excited to see their wedding.

hoping that zachary levi and yvonne will remain friends after the show and hope they can make another series or movie with them in it..

    Go Chuck for 5!!! 🙂

  9. Well, they got me on agent x… I was confident I knew who it was but was proven WAY wrong. Fedak and company surprised the hell out of me. I’m sure more surprises are to come.

  10. Left me speechless and dazed when Agent X revealed. better be a heck of a backstory for that. Welcome back Papa B ! 😉

    • Oh, that would be cool. Flashback to 1980 with Papa B, Mama B, and Volkoff/Hartley.

  11. I hope chuck & sarah do get to have their wedding yvonne looked lovely in her dress and i hope nbc renew chuck for a season 5 as we dont know much about sarah’s past and that is a good reason to have a season 5 so nbc renew chuck for season 5 its the best show we have on tv so come on give us a SEASON 5

  12. I compiled chuck theories, thoughts and predictions in my blogpost: http://innocentwild.blogspot.com/2011/05/chuck-versus-last-details-theories.html

Hope you get to read it!

  13. I hope it is literally someone hanging off a cliff (and not Chuck or Sarah) and that Chuck “defeats” the cliffhanger (since it’s “vs. The CLiffhanger,” lol). The wedding needs to happen, if this were to wind up being the end of the series – vows must be said and they need to be pronounced man and wife! I love the comedy in this show and I hope there is lots of that in the next two episodes. I’ve watched every single episode on NBC.

  14. Will there be a possibility of a zero-wedding between Chuck and Sarah? I mean, Chuck would NOT be Chuck without the ladies… No offense to Ms.Walker.

    PS. Morgan rulez!!!

  15. i dont know why they are saying that chuck finales could potentially be satisfying closers to the seasons, excluding only season 1. season 2 – chuck downloads the intersect 2.0 and knows kung fu. if there was no season 3… obviously people would have been pissed. season 3 – chuck discovers his dad’s work and says he is going to find his mom. so… wrapping up stories and adding things at the end so that a potential new season could happen don’t really go together
