Chuck from A to Z

I’ve subscribed to Entertainment Weekly for over a decade and when they have a cover story celebrating a TV, book or movie series, they often write an “A to Z” guide of the important points of the story. Obviously Chuck has never gotten a big EW cover story, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have an A to Z list. After all, what better way to celebrate the 4 seasons of Chuck than a Chuck A to Z list? (Also a perfect “Chuck crash course” for the newly initiated fan trying to get up to speed by October 21.)

Chuck from A to Z

A…Alex Coburn – Casey’s real name, not used since he faked his death as a young soldier to join a black ops unit, emerging years later as Major John Casey of the NSA.

B… Buy More – the electronics chain that serves as Chuck’s real job, then cover job, then business after Chuck and Sarah buy it at the end of S4.

C…Captain Awesome – Ellie’s boyfriend and later husband who is awesome in every way, until he gets involved in Chuck’s secret life.

D…Daniel Shaw – most hated character in the Chuckverse. Initially brought in to mentor Chuck, he soon comes between Chuck and Sarah before learning that Sarah killed his wife. He tries to kill her, leading to a showdown between him and Chuck in Paris. He later comes back from the dead (for all intents and purposes) and kills Chuck’s father.

E…Eleanor Faye Bartowski (Ellie)– Chuck’s confidante, sister, and mother substitute. A successful doctor, she pushes Chuck to do more with his life, not knowing that he’s working with the CIA.

F…Fulcrum – a conspiracy that wants their own Intersect to make an army of super soldiers (S2).

G… General Beckman – Chuck and the gang’s boss for the first 4 seasons, generally has been Chuck’s protector and supporter.

H…Han Solo – one of Chuck and Morgan’s idols, one of two figurines (the other is Chewbacca) that Chuck and Morgan have been saving forever.

I…Intersect – a computer program capable of installing itself in a human brain, granting knowledge and skills to the person; multiple versions have been used over the course of the show.

J…Jeffster – a two-man band formed by Jeff and Lester, two members of the Buy More Nerd Herd. Famously serenaded Ellie and the entire maternity ward with “Push It” in “Chuck vs. the Push Mix” (4.13).

K…Kung Fu – when Chuck re-uploads the Intersect at the end of S2, it comes with some new skills which he demonstrates to save Sarah and Casey from the Ring.

L…Large Mart – the Buy More’s major competitor, Jeff and Lester steal Kevin Bacon, the store’s pig mascot in ” Chuck vs the Muuuurder” (4.19), leading to store warfare.

M…Morgan – Chuck’s best bud since grade school, he’s loyal as they come and clueless about Chuck’s secret life until “Chuck vs. the Beard” (3.09) when he becomes a member of Team Bartowski. Originator of “The Morgan”, a self-defense move where one arm covers the head while the other covers the family jewels.

N…Nerd Herd – the tech support group at the Buy More, of which Chuck is the unofficial leader.

O…Orion – inventor of the Intersect, later revealed to be Chuck and Ellie’s father.

P…Paris – Chuck flies to Paris on his first solo mission but isn’t allowed to get off the plane; later he shoots Shaw on a bridge to save Sarah and he and Sarah finally get together in a hotel room with a view of the Eiffel tower.

Q…Queen – JEFFSTER! covered Queen’s “Fatbottom Girls” to open Comic Con 2009.

R…Ring, The – a bigger, badder Fulcrum, a nefarious organization that almost succeeds in stopping Chuck, Casey and Sarah for good, captured in “Chuck vs. the Ring, Part II” (3.19).

S…Sam – Sarah’s real first name

T…Tron – Chuck tries to figure out the spy world that he is enmeshed in by making a chart on the back of his Tron poster in S2; also used by Papa B to signal Chuck in “Chuck vs. the Colonel” (2.21).

U…Undercover Lover – our first glimpse into Casey’s backstory, revealing a love interest and a nickname – Sugar Bear (1.12).

V…Volkoff – after an early Intersect prototype goes wrong, Papa Bartowski’s best friend is transformed into a diabolical villain.

W…Weinerlicious – Sarah’s first cover job in Burbank, serving up gourmet wieners in a short skirt and peasant blouse.

X…Agent X – one of the first intersects, an experiment gone awry that breaks the Bartowski family apart when Chuck and Ellie are just kids (see Volkoff).

Y…Yogurt, frozen – Sarah’s second cover job is at the Orange Orange, a fro yo store built over top of Castle.

Z…Zondra – a member of the C.A.T. squad, Sarah’s Charlie’s Angels-esque espionage team from before she met Chuck.

  1. And a great way to start the week mice list how long did it take you to come up with it thanks for sharing

    • I came up with most of them in one sitting. It was more of a problem of which to pick for each letter when I had a couple of ideas. Had to have an assist from Mel for Q and U, however 🙂

  2. Love it…thanks for sharing! 🙂

  3. What a clever list! Thanks for sharing!

  4. Great list. That really helped fill in the CHUCK void. What else can we come up with to pass the time until October 21. That’s a long ways off. Tap into your personal intersect and come up with an online game for all of us like they used to run on the NBC web site.!

  5. “S” stand for sheep.

    C’mom, everyone knows this.

  6. AYKM? Shouldn’t there be a Bryce Larkin reference? And I thought ‘Sam’ was her middle name…

    Just saying…

    mk

    • Yep, but for whatever reason I didn’t think of it until after I posted the list! I should have put it in for “L”. 🙂

Lisa is Sarah’s middle name, Sam is her first.
