What a way to end another long week in quarantine! Entertainment Weekly premiered their video reuniting the cast of Chuck as they performed a table read of episode 3.09, “Chuck vs. the Beard” – including an (abbreviated) JEFFSTER! live performance!
This is the first in EW’s #UnitedAtHome reunion series to benefit various charities working to help those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Chuck reunion raised money for Feeding America and once again Chuck fans rose to the challenge, quickly meeting the first two fundraising goals! (You can still donate here.)
And now, settle in for an hour-long reunion with showrunners Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak, new music from composer Tim Jones, and performances by regular cast members Zachary Levi (who also directed this episode), Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin, Mark Christopher Lawrence, Vik Sahay, and Scott Krinsky plus guest stars Brandon Routh, Diedrich Bader, and Cedric Yarbrough. And, very special guest, Chuck fan Kyle Fox who makes his acting debut playing several bit parts from the script.
So, does anyone else get the feeling that TPTB are using this to gauge interest in a movie or a reboot?
A month ago Zac did an interview where he asked Fedak to write a script. Then this table reading. So now I just read an article from them talking about what comes next.
Of course I have no clue, but I’d be surprised if some negotiations haven’t already happened. Too much coincidence coming out of the blue.
It’s possible TPTB are watching to see what kind of response this receives, but it genuinely came together as a fundraiser for Feeding America. Sarah Lancaster and Ryan McPartlin were the drivers behind it (I believe Sarah came up with the idea of doing a fundraiser and Ryan proposed the charity) out of a desire to give fans a treat while benefitting a worthy cause.
Did you see the EW interview that was just after the read?

Yep. They said they haven’t thought about doing more Chuck in a while and that things would have to align with fan demand + the studio + original ideas. Pretty much the same things they’ve been saying for 8 years.
Thank you so much for doing this fabulous table read! I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the actors get back into their former roles, seemingly effortlessly and with so much love and joy. It was simply heartwarming to watch. Chuck was one of the most enjoyable TV shows ever made, and they all still have the chemistry. What a great idea to put this together on Zoom and to benefit Feeding America. I was happy to donate, and can I just say I would love a Chuck reboot or movie or whatever these amazing folks want to do together.
Mel, you should plan a Chuck vs the podcast and review the table read. That is if Gray and Liz ( I think) are available to do that.
I first started watching after a co-worker told me about the show. I caught it on reruns or on DVD at the time. Later on, I got my girlfriend, now wife hooked on it.
