Yvonne Books Another Film Role

Yvonne Strahovski has signed on for a role in the upcoming Shadows From the Sky, a film based on former airline pilot Tristan Loraine’s documentary “Welcome Aboard Toxic Airlines” and his subsequent novel “Toxic Airlines.” The script follows the true story of a soldier who discovers one of the biggest cover-ups in aviation history when he sets out to find the truth about a plane crash that kills all aboard, including his ex-girlfriend.

The film is still pulling together funding, but is expected to go into production later this year, working around Yvonne’s filming schedule for Chuck. Other names attached to the project include Talia Shire, John Rhys-Davies and Marina Sirtis.

Yvonne is currently filming I Love You Too and has signed on for a small role in another, currently untitled, Australian film shooting this summer. She’s a busy girl! You can find out more about Yvonne’s projects at our sister site, YvonneStrahovski.net.

  1. The girl sure knows how to keep busy during hiatus. 🙂 Good for Yvonne!

  2. Go Yvonne! 🙂

  3. Gotta strike harder when the iron is hot! She’s doing what’s best for her and her career. Tough I’m curious to know how she’s going to manage shooting both the movie and Chuck at roughly the same time, that’ll take some spotless time management!

Anyway, Here’s to hoping that her projects are sucessful and that she benefits from all this hard work by making a bigger name for herself in the movie business. She certainly deserves more than most people, considering how much she fights for it.

Oh, and I’m also hoping for an international release. I love Australia, I love australians, but you can’t just keep her talent for yourselves mates, ya gotta share ok?

  4. Congratulations! The first group of MANY, MANY more projects to come!! You deserve it, Yvonne. Sto lat!!!

  5. i have deffinatly gota watch out for those movies

  6. gud to know that she’s busy doing some staff like that but i wish she would be a big star on hollywood cos she deserves to be one of it.

  7. In my opinion she will be a big star if not the biggest star once it gets out on just how talented she is. Chuck has been so below the radar for most in the U.S. that they don’t know anything about Chuck and of course have never heard of Yvonne. So once the little secret gets out at just how talented Yvonne is she is going to climb very very rapidly. In my letter to NBC one of the comments that I mentioned was that for a long time now I have felt watching Yvonne play Sarah Walker reminded me of the old black and white tv’s where all the characters are in black and white except Sarah Walker comes through in color. That is not to say that Zachary and Adam and the rest of the cast aren’t incredibly talented because they are incredibly talented and the show would not work without them. It is just that Yvonne is so much more!

  8. Halley,

I agree about Yvonne being a star.

I think the real game changer this year could be if they get Casey out of his shell and let him expand his character. Maybe with a girlfriend???

He is a great actor but his roles are limited.

  9. I definately agree that she completely deserves the projects and the fame cause she’s got a hell of a range. However, don’t you guys worry at all about her getting TOO successful for tv. I mean it’s every actor’s dream to be in the movies. Granted that there is great writing on tv now and big stars are all over our little screens-and some tv stars do movies and stay on tv (katherine heigl and such). What I’m trying to say is that it would suck if she left and the show would have to end–depending on there being more than just one more season of course. I don’t think she’s the kind of person that would do that, just saying money wise–stuff like that. What do ya’ll think???

  10. @wasatl24

I can see where you’re going, but first and foremost there are ways to prevent that kind of situations, for instance, multi-year contracts. Of course, if from day to night she became the new Nicole Kidman it would be hellish to negociate a contract, but light-speed climbs to stardom like that are as expected as an earthquake in a place with no history of earthquakes. You just never expect.

(I do believe/hope she’ll be a star as I really admire her dedication and how much she fights to achive her goals, I just expect/hope that she climbs the whole stair as sudden fame tends to screw up people for life.)

Then there’s the fact that you’re looking at this from your Chuck fan POV. Would Yvonne’s motivation be as high as you can clearly tell that it is now, if she felt she was missing out on much more challenging and professional fulfulling projects? She would do it I have no doubts, but her acting would shine much less IMO.

Imagine if say, Metallica is looking for a new bass player (I have nothing against the current, just an example) and you submit an audition and forget about it, never expecting to be called. But it turns out you’re not only called, you’re chosen! Of course you’re overjoyed, but then you have to turn them down because you have contract with a small time bars band and can’t be released. Do you think you would have an inch of motivation to play in that band ever again? I think not…

I don’t know how Fedak and Schwartz are, but I’m a very soft-hearted guy and if I was producing Chuck and at any point felt one my actors was having his/her career screwed because he/she was stuck on my show instead of going for gigs more fitting of his/her league, I very much doubt I would sleep at night before I found a way to take him/her off the show without sending it down the toilet. It could be difficult in Yvonne’s case considering her importance to the show, but a TV show exists to entertain the audience, and it’s just wrong to do so at the expense of an actor’s dreams.

At least that’s just my take at the perfect world…

  11. @Odrep,

I totally agree with you. Like I said I want her to succeed and do well–other people should be watching her, not just us Chuck fans. I would never wish an unfulfilled life/or wasted talent on anyone–especially someone with great potential. I am looking at it through Chuck-colored glasses, but that’s just what I’m doing at the moment since we were all so submerged in this thing recently. I know it’s coming back and she’ll be great along with everyone else but it’s just the bittersweet results of successs that, as a fan, sometimes sucks. We’ll all be happy with whatever outcome in the end I think since we haven’t been let down yet.

-If the perfect world starts woking out for you let me know. I wanna get in on ther ground floor of that.

  12. Yvonne has a six year contract with NBC/WB. I doubt she is going anywhere, and any of the hollywood flakiness that starlets tend to develop, I am not worried about that happening with Yvonne personally…

My impression is that she is a workaholic.

  13. @wasatl24
I know that in the end you weren’t really wishing Yvonne bad luck or anything and I could see that you were probably just caught up on the fervor of our massive promotion campaign. But it’s important to remember that behind this show we so love are real people with real hopes and dreams, and never should we, as real fans, root more for the show than we root for the team that makes it happen. The moment our fanatism makes us seriously hope that the cast’s other projects fail so that they’ll never be too big for Chuck is the moment we should lay off the show abit IMO.

    @dave
Thanks, I knew she had a contract, didn’t know for how many years. I also think she has a very strong personality and dedication that won’t be bended so easily (tomboy girls FTW!) but life has tought me never, ever, to forget the evil that men do and how we just love to destroy. But I do have a feeling that she’ll be just fine 🙂

  14. Wow, she had lots of stuff plan… That’s great… I’m look forward to seeing her on the ‘big screen’ and it looks like she’ll be super busy with chuck. The great thing is that since chuck won’t be airing till march of 2010 she’ll have a few months before she has to go back and can devote herself to the projects she signed up for.

  15. @Odrep

I wasn’t wishing ill will or forgeting that we’re talking about real people in the slightest. I was just reading the posts and had a fleeting thought and wanted to see what some of you thought about it. Didn’t mean for you to take it like I want all the cast to suck at everything and only do Chuck. I’m sorry if you misunderstood it to mean that even a little–tone is hard to convey on message boards. As far as what “real fans” do like you say, I just want positive things to happen for everyone–and since Chuck can’t keep them forever we can still watch them doing great things. On a plus side, any publicity is good publicity and I know we’re all about that since it’s gonna be 10 months till next season. Have a great holliday!

  16. @wasatl24
Don’t think I was lashing out at you or anything mate, I know there wasn’t any ill will on your words and my last post was so directed at you as it was to anyone who was also reading. It’s important to respect the cast & crew above everything else. That was the message I wanted to get across, not only to you but to anyone else who might not have that clear in their heads. I’m sorry if at any point it seemed that I was attacking or picking on you. Never my intention. It’s not holyday in here, but I do hope you have a great one yourself. 🙂

  17. @odrep

No worries man. It’s all good. Like I said, tone is difficult to gauge on these things–I wasn’t trying to sound defensive/offended if that’s what you thought. If it’s not a holliday where you’re from then where are you from??

  18. Portugal. You’d be suprised at how far the Chuck fandom has spread 😛

  19. Not suprised in the least my friend.

  20. This is just a rip off of Jake 2.0

  21. If you are implying that Chuck is a rip off of Jake 2.0 you could not be more wrong. Jake had nanites in his blood stream that allowed him to interface with electrical devices, computers and could enhance his physical abilities. Chuck does not have any nanites inside of him. He has encoded images (information stored within each picture that he saw)that in a sense were downloaded to his brain. Because he saw the images he can then access the information, but something needs to occur in order to trigger a flash. When the flash occurs at that point Chuck then has the information. Also one of key points of Chuck is the romantic love story between Chuck and Sarah which started in the pilot episode and has moved forward (Slower then us fans have wanted). Jake had the lady doctor that watched out for him and had feelings for him. Also you had Jake’s reporter friend that he had feeling for. That show was based on Sci Fi and Action. It did not have the romantic aspect that Chuck has. Jake 2.0 also was not classified as comedy. Chuck is classified as comedy. Chuck’s crazy coworkers at the Buy More (a take off of Best Buys) have brought alot of hysterical scenes to the show in the last two years. I don’t recall any coworkers of Jake bringing comedy to Jake 2.0.? If I remember correctly on one episode they did show Jake’s misfit brother, but that was just one episode. Chuck also has a family matters aspect to the show which is shown in the very strong bond between Chuck, his Sister Ellie, and her now husband Capt Awesome, which adds to the drama aspect of the show. Because Chuck cover Action, Comedy, Romance, Drama, plus Sci Fi it really is a family show. For me, from my 88 Y/O Mother to my 10 Y/O Niece. If you look at other posting on different website you will find many other references from other fans that have also experienced the same thing. This show brings families together to watch Chuck. Can that be said about Jake 2.0? TV critics who have watched Chuck have also become fans and did their part to plea for another season. Can the same be said for Jake 2.0? Fans bought many Subway Footlongs for the Season Finale. What did Jake 2.0 fans buy for the Season Finale of that show? Chuck fans donated over $17,000 to the American Heart Association in a two week period (In today’s economy I might add). Did Jake 2.0 fans donate money to a charitable cause? By last Christmas I had already purchased 13 Season 1 DVD’s of Chuck that I gave out. Right now it is around 20. I have been a fan of many shows over the years, and I have plenty of DVD’s to prove it, but none of them are worth the effort like Chuck is. Everybody that watches Chuck feels the same way. Please don’t pre judge the show and please give it a chance. I promise you will not be disappointed.

  22. Can the Wheedon / Schwartz worlds be colliding?! Looks like one of the roles Yvonne might be up for is the lead, in the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot:

    http://tvscreener.com/2009/05/the-next-buffy/

    She’d be perfect for that!

  23. i think it will be really good for her to do more projects…
she’ll get more experiences on working with other people, different genres and a different role. hopefully, these projects will lead her to more projects. she’s really talented and she really is able to adapt in any roles given to her.

  24. OMG i am sooo annoyed right now
sarah’s filming in melbourne right now (which is where I am) and i just found this ad asking people to be in the background of the film…so potentially i could meet yvonne, who is like my idol lol but I’m underage so i can’t go because it’s in a nightclub

    here’s the ad though
    http://www.starnow.co.uk/listings/ListingDetail.aspx?l_id=109711

So my plans now to meet yvonne is hang around in the city as much as possible, because i think there i’ll have the most chance of bumping in to her haha

  25. Operation Pineapple

  26. Yvonne as Buffy?
I have to admit that I never really got into the Buffy TV show, but did see the orginal movie on TV.
I really could see Yvonne doing a terrific job and I would probably see that movie.
I am also surprised that the producers of the James Bond movies haven’t approached her to be a Bond girl.

Come to think of it she would be great in any action pic.
I am also hoping that the romantic comedy she filmed in Australia this summer will make it to North America. It would be interesting to see her doing other types of roles.
Finally, I would love to see her host SNL.
