RATINGS: Chuck Drops Slightly, Still Holding Steady

The fast overnight ratings are in and while Chuck dipped slightly from last week, against strong competition “Chuck vs. the Nacho Sampler” pulled 6.72 million viewers and a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo. For comparison, last week’s episode was watched by about 6.9 million and had a 2.5 in the demo. Full ratings results for last night are available at TV By The Numbers.

  1. Damn! We can’t let Chuck fall below a 2.4. I really want a fourth season and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

    • I don’t think it’s up to us. We’ve done all we can. We buy the foot longs, we talk and write about the show, we implore our friends to watch.

It’s beginning to look like the rumors about some of the hard-core fans dissatisfaction over the direction of the show may be true, and they’ve stopped watching as promised.

      • I have seen or read nothing to make me and the family want to watch it this season, there is little to no moments between chuck and sarah just angst, they seem to have taken the fun our of the show and the heart out for action. On the plus side MASS EFFECT 2 is the best game i have ever played and its keeping me busy. Keep checking to see if the show improves but right now there is nothing to make me or the family want to watch. I am in two minds if i would want a fourth season more than likely they would pull the angst again as thats what they seem to like.

      • You are basing your decision to watch/not watch the show on other people’s reaction to each episode? R U reading the NBC boards? I stopped going there last year because everyone was so negative. You are missing out on a great season. The first 2 episodes had angst, the next 4 had little or no angst. You should give it a try.

      • I don’t understand why some people who haven’t watch season 3 of Chuck can talk negative about it. I agree with ChuckFan808 this is a great season. I love that the writers are developing the charaters even more while still keeping them grounded. Episode 306 had everything, it even had Sarah doing some fun things. As well as everyone else.

      • The NBC comments are really negitive
If you havent Really been here much to not have seen good things about season three. It is great and you are missing out. Actually this are the first season three negitive comment ive seen.
Why dont you watch and come back and tell us if sill feel the same way? if you do its Okay.

      • Last night, that time slot looked really really tough to be in. Considering that Chuck only back slid to 2.4 is a victory. I say its fair to speculate that some of the 118,000 previous week’s viewers that didn’t join us “Chuckoholics” this week aren’t gone for good. And, I think they’re gonna kick themselves in the butt when they realize they missed one of the best episodes to date.

    • I don’t think going below a 2.4 will cancel a fourth season. Heroes is doing much worse. If NBC has to chose now between Chuck and Heroes the choice is pretty clear. This has been a great start for Chuck and the quality of these episodes just keeps getting better and better. If they promote the show during the Olympics I think plenty of viewers will return.

  2. How does this compare to other NBC Shows? Is Chuck still in the top tier for NBC?

  3. rather provocative question: is negative campaining an option also on TV? in this case “dont’t watch heroes (watch chuck)” to boost the performance and – by doing so – the shows chances for survival?
has anyone ever tried something like that (not that I would think of)?

    • The damage to our reputation as a fandom, and the show itself, would undo all the good we’ve accomplished with the renewal campaign and the We Heart Chuck endeavors. Not worth it at all.

    • I never got into Heroes, so I don’t watch it. However Chuck is great for me. Loving this season so far.

  4. 2.4 is still higher than it was at the end of last season (2.2 to 2.3).

It’s still in the safe category at NBC, if you ask me. Still, the show needs to be in a better time slot.

  5. i hope this season gets better soon. i don’t watch this show for the realism; let’s face it, this show hands out one implausible scenario after the other. i watch it to be entertained. considering how hard the chuck fans fought for a third season, what we’ve been given so far, leaves a lot to be desired.

so far i haven’t seen one episode i would consider to be good, let alone great. brandon routh doesn’t really add anything to the show, awesome has been reduced to a babbling idiot, ellie is nothing more than a bit player, the buy more antics are old and tired.. they need to be shot and given a decent burial, casey so far has grunted more than spoken, and finally the chuck/sarah will they or won’t they has gotten stale.

if the show’s producers hope for a fourth season, then they have their work cut out for them.

    • 1. Brandon Routh sent Chuck on his first solo mission and sees that Sarah and Casey have been coddling him. 2. Awesome saved Premier Goya’s life not once, but twice and helped Chuck access the intersect to operate on Casey. 3. Ellie now knows that Chuck is keeping secrets from her and will certainly be more of a player in future eps. 4. The Buy More antics were completely missing from one episode, and many people still find them funny. 5. Casey was instrumental in the last episode. He is bonding with Chuck and chastised Sarah for treating Chuck cruelly in “versus the Pink Slip.”
What show have you been watching? because its obviously not Chuck.

      • you’re right, it’s not. it’s the show that used to be chuck.

      • I deleted the remaining comments in this comment thread because they crossed the line into personal attacks. Feel free to continue debating, but remember the comment guidelines.

  6. I would not say that Chuck is holding steady. I’ll take a 2.4, but the ratings for 18-49 have been in a slow but steady decline. It’s down 20% from the premiere, and almost 10% from Ep 3 (it’s first episode of the season in it’s regular slot).

The good news is that it’s overall viewer count is holding steady for the past 3 weeks. Though down from the premiere night as well as the 2nd night. The other good news is that a 2.4 should still be good enough, if it can average that for the season and avoid a late season dip.

  7. What’s the cut off number for the demo roughly?
So far i have liked this season, i don’t believe it was as strong as season 2 but that’s just me, i still think it’s a show worth watching for anyone who hasn’t watched it. Yes there might not be as much chuck and sarah going on, but i rekon chuck’s evolution into a real spy is just as interesting to watch

  8. Hi everyone, I have seen all episodes of season 3. Unfortunatedly, my desire to see chuck and sarah together is far far away. Season 3 lack of romance and feelings. Is just like normal spy stuff , comedies here and there. It seams season 2 of chuck looks more interesting at this points. The dierctor/writer did not care our views when we fight for come back of chuck season 3. They are more interested what they want and not what’s the majority of the audiences want. If the show continues like this, most probably there will no season 4 of chuck. Therefore, ends of “Team Bartowski”. What chucks needs is “NEW DIRECTOr AND WRITER” in order to make the show more interesting and worth watching.

    • I agree with you for the first part of your comment. 🙁
I will still watch the show but so far i haven’t seen anything awesome.
We had a poll and we wanted for Chuck and Sarah to slowly move forward, but so far except one episode we had nothing and we are a lot worse than in the second season.
I hope there is an improvement soon but with the Shaw-Sarah and Chuck-Hannah arcs we will have a lot to wait for. 🙁

    • I disagree. I’m loving that the focus is on the spy stuff and building that mythology. It’s what drew me to the show in the first place!

      • I agree with you Mel. Its the Mythology of the show that draws us in. It the characters and how they make us feel for them. The only reason we care for Chuck and Sarah is because we want to see them happy (also Yvonne and Zach have great chemistry). The only reason we are upset about other *POSSIBLE* love intrests is because we know it hurts them. They are in love, but can’t do anything about it. *POSSIBLE* love intrests like Hannah and Shaw are there to help give Chuck and Sarah that push they need to confess their feelings and form a relationship on an intimate level. Relationships take time. So stop bad mouthing the show and just enjoy. You don’t even know whats going to happen so just stop all this crazy shipper crap and watch the show and enjoy the comedy, action, and insane plots. The purpose is to enjoy the ride no matter how bumpy it get, for all those bumps, twist and turns will only make the destination (the destination is Chuck and Sarah being together finally) all the more sweeter.

      • i disagree with your statement that the ‘possible love intrests like Hannah and Shaw are there to help give Chuck and Sarah that push they need to confess their feelings and form a relationship on an intimate level’, from what i can tell, it hasn’t done that in the last love triangles, therefore i fail to see how it is going to do that this season, especially if the shaw and sarah arc is as paiful as the spoilers are indicating.

  9. I am from slovenia, and i am doing everything that i can to help chuck. I am on chuck me out mission, on facebook, twiter, and my space, but i cant watch it because i don”t have yet NBC program. But i am trying in that direction to. I have found 10 of my friends who love chuck and we will call a bidder of telecommunication and we will press on them that we want NBC program.

But this can take a lot of time. But i don”t now what is wrong with you people. You did everything, that chuck survived and no i am reading that you don”t want to watch it because sarah and chuck are not together??? Sorry but you are crazy. I want to see sarah and chuck together too, and that is why i am watching the show.

i just thing that you have to be more patient and look the show. because if you did everything that you can that chuck survived. now we have a new mission. We have to help chuck that he will be on NBC for a long time more!!!!

  10. for those people who say that the NBC comments are negative read these comments there not any better. every one criticizes the show because of the angst and the fact that Chuck and Sarah are not together yet. for those people i have to say be patient it will come. you have to realize that the writers are trying g to progress the relationship at a reasonable and realistic speed. all you want is them to be together but you obviously don’t want to see the process it takes to get there. its a journey we have to follow the path to get to the destination. we don’t just arrive we have to get there.the writers are trying to make the audience understand how Chuck & Sarah’s job predicament makes it difficult for them to be together that’s why we see the angst.as far as the spoilers are concerned i think that chucktv should stop posting them altogether. the reason being fans just look at the spoilers and from that alone decide if they are going to watch the episode. this hurts the demographic because lots of people do this. we cant complain about the ratings when we are giving the story line away. if there were no spoilers then one would have to watch the show to find out whats going to happen.instead one finds everything online and picks and chooses what episode he or she will watch, than they have the nerve to criticize the show.come on people!!!with that said i personally love chucktv.net its an excellent site that brings fans together.and last but not least be patient every one the day will come when Chuck and Sarah will be together for real. and for those people who suck with the show it will be an AWESOME day indeed!

    • DT not so, there are spoilers all over the place. Personally i like to read spoilers I do not go to a movie before i have read a review I will not waste my time or money.

Thats the power of the internet among my generation you cannot stop the message (cultural reference there LOL loved firefly). I always found the NBC a great place to see debate and discussion. The fact is audiences have changed we are not going to spend 20 odd weeks watching a season if we are just going to be left disapointed every week then right at the end it all turns out – maybe.

That has happened too many times. There is alot more for us viewers to do from things like Mass Effect 2 (which is amazing and a great story – I saved my whole team 2nd play through now), streaming (and when/if it appears on itunes download).

The fact is the show fans right from comic con onwards have voiced how worried they were that the show was going to lose its heart and it would ruin the characters. Only to be told by Ali stop worrying you do not know whats happening. The journey for chuck and sarah as aspinwall says so far has been contrived and lacked heart just cause the show runners want to keep them apart hence the reboot at the start.

I could handle they cannot be together right now, i would be happy with the spy stuff which is always good but its the love interest that gives me a bad taste.

There have been few chuck and sarah moments (other than painful) this season it started on a downward track and has continued all the way along. My family and I all agree its not been worth wacthing as the heart has been lost from the show and its just pain and suffering. We see no reason to sit down live and watch a show that is set up to disapoint us every week and leave us with a cold feeling.

Chuck used to be family viewing night. Which is another problem my aunt does not wish my nephew and neice to see sleeping around promoted in anything but relationships. My neice saw Sarah as a bit of a role model but now we are not letting her see it. Thank god we knew before hand so we could distract them from the show. But we will now likely watch when the season finishes either by DVD or stream we are not about to watch a season that seems set to end as a huge disapointment to fans. Alot of fans are keeping going and hanging on as they think there will be a big payoff and they will be together.

I see no way they can realisticly be together if sarah has an affair with shaw which it seems will happen then no man would want her back after that especially after the contrived way they were split up in 3.01 and 3.01 “oh chuck your going to be a spy we cannot be together” then she goes off with the next spy. No man with any self respect would want her back, or maybe do the James Bond just have her and move on.

Before anyone says no I am not a crazy shipper, used to be but not so much any more. I want to see chuck show some back bone and just tell her to get lost if she goes off with shaw. Be a man chuck you can do better for yourself. If he did take her back it risks making chuck look pathetic and the second string taking another mans cast offs.

      • I totally ageed with timlay. Chuck season 3 are very disppointed to all fans that work hard and support for chuck to continue for season 3. The writer and director didn’t care less what we want or fans want. They did what they wants. The writer has been influence by teenager movie like oc and gossip girls. They forgot that chuck is mature comedy spy family drama. Having sarah easily goes to another men’s arm in a very short time reflected her stupidity, immaturity and proved that blondies are dump. If I were chuck , I will not have sarah back has she looks loike cheap and easy girl whom can be easily pick on the streets. So, to all chuck fans, turn off your tv on chuck and don’t waste your time and money on the this movie. Let the directros, writer and their crew members watch their own lousy movie.

  11. I think i would have to disagree with a lot of the negative comments im hearing here. I think Chuck has done a good job at keeping people on their toes. I hear all this stuff about Chuck and Sarah not having enough moments, but part of the story is to deal with both times, believe it or not angst does happen in real life and very few relationships are simple.

To say that your not going to watch it, simply because their is angst in the show, probably means you do not watch many shows on tv at all. As far as the things in the beginning of the season that went on, situations change and the writers have done a good job keeping it grounded in reality. I honestly hope they never just cater to the fans demands, because there are too many shows that lost all credibility by doing just that.
