I’m a numbers girl. I like looking at data and graphs and stats and finding patterns. Creative writing assignments give me hives, but present me with a jumble of data and I’ll gleefully come up with a 50-page analysis. Possibly with graphics, definitely with sub-headings. Yep, meaning from numbers, that’s my thing.
NB: I do have a Master’s in English, I just took the path of literature analysis vs. storytelling or, horror of horrors, poetry.
What does this have to do with the Friday Five? I was checking out some stats the other day and noticed a decided trend in which songs from Chuck‘s third season are being downloaded from our Music page. I know which songs are my favorite, but what about the wider fan base? And voila! A topic is born! Based on the data available, i.e. the downloads via ChuckTV.net, I compiled the stats and came up with the list below.

“Bears” is my favorite so far this season, with “Model Homes” a close second, and I see that I’m not alone. Does this list match your top 5 for the season?
Yeah I have all 5 of these as well. Downloaded them all immediately after finding out what they were. My fave is Backwards Walk.
Also, it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only English major who loathes poetry. 🙂

Looking at my own top 5 most played from this season it stands at, 40 Day Dream, (by Edward Sharpe) Model Homes, Backwards Walk, Astair, (by Matt Costa) and Amarillion. (by Datarock)
My fave is probably Got Nuffin’ by Spoon. Very cool song.

I have not been impressed with this season’s music. So far, Season 2’s music was the best.
Part of the slight music change in Chuck has been a subtle way to keep/get new viewers to pick up and watch the 3rd season. That is my guess at least. I am pretty sure the music company that does Chuck’s music is the same… Personally I like Bears, Astair, 40 Day Dream, and Model Homes. Already had some Imogen Heap from a friend and had previously bought Midnight Organ Fight, thus Backwards Walk. A few of the songs from this season were to “fit” the references being drawn. Obviously Eye of the Tiger and two by The Dust Brothers (Fight Club Soundtrack) you might not have known/liked. A change in music might be largely due to the change in scenes. The French songs fit the French episode, all the Spanish songs fit the “Angel De La Muerte” episode, while the rap songs fit the club and morgan/chuck housewarming party. Overall, the music selection is good for the scenes they are in. But I think there have been some great songs this season: Black & Gold, Wait it Out, Backwards Walk, Oh My!, Model Homes, Living a Lie!, Bears, 40 Day Dream, Astair to name a good number of them. Maybe you haven’t been noticing the music as much because you relate landmark moments of the show with the music that is being played. I didn’t catch a few of the songs on my first time through the episodes. I heard Bears only after walking in on my sister watching the DVRed Chuck during that scene.
I look forward to the rest of the season and its music. I really like the lady/person who does the Chuck soundtrack (she used to do the OC too) and she is able to get really creative with the music. I would look for bands like Spoon, Band of Horses, Frightened Rabbit, matt pond PA, the Thermals, Bon Iver, Franz Ferdinand, and (my hope) Blind Pilot. For the most part these are artists that have been used multiple times in the soundtrack of Chuck and are probably favorites of the person who works on music for Chuck.
It’s just me that love Datarock – Amarillion?
The inicial part of this music is perfect.
Frightened Rabbit are excellent. Two of thier dongs were in last season, and from the same album. (The Twist & Keep Yourself Warm) From ‘Midnight Organ Fight’ As is Backwards Walk.
Chuck is my fave source for new music. 🙂
I loved l’amoureuse by carla bruni – that was perfect. Oh, and also got nuffin by spoon.

So far i have over twenty songs from chuck.
Armarillion came out of nowhere and I love it. Wait It Out is the standout for me, and I’ve been listening to Backwards Walk for a long time like a lot of others. Black & Gold is amazing, as well as all the covers of it (Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry, etc.). Young Adult Friction is also a great track and doesn’t get enough credit, as well as Bohemian Like You. I’m surprised Living a Lie! wasn’t on the list. Got Nuffin’ was a good choice for it’s action sequence (can’t go wrong with Spoon). Model Homes should be on the list so I’m happy about that.
Great music coming from Season 3, but right now for a fast-paced song something’s got to beat Now We Can See, and for a slow-paced song, well there’s too many to name.
Those songs are great, and would make my top list… but songs like astair by matt costa,or wait it out by imogen heap would also be there…
But perhaps on a top 10 list…

But what can we say? Chuck has the best soundtrack ever.
And all of the songs perfectly fit on the scenes. By now i can remember of my backwards walk, wait it out, sexy bitch and much more, that are so good on the episodes!!

“Challengers” by the New Pornographers (Neko Case singing).
They’ve used it twice, I think. Once in season 1, during Bryce’s funeral, and once in season 2, when Chuck and Sarah approach his dad’s trailer. Once I heard it in season 2, I realized that it had to be mine. 🙂
