We’re preparing to record our next podcast with special guests Mo Ryan (Chicago Tribune) and Jace (Televisionary), and we want to know what questions you have for them. Our primary focus will be discussing episode 3.07 plus a look ahead to next week and beyond. Got a relevant question? Post it below!

Zachary Levi introduces the new Nerd HQ
A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the possibility of Nerd HQ’s return. Well, …
Ms. Ryan, & Jace,
We’ve been having a very active discussion. Has S3 been too dark for the casual viewer? The dedicated fans of Chuck have said that they really miss the sweetness-and-lightness of seasons 1 and 2 and it’s either gone forever, or that this is a necessary build-up to get back to that.
Me – I’ve seen tons of humor in all of S3 so far, but it certainly does seem overshadowed this time around, perhaps by the characters losing their naiveté.
Fake Name. Jace is on record as loving it. Mo, not so much. It would be fun to hear them debate why. Are they on at the same time?
I know they can’t reveal spoilers, but both critics have raved about “Chuck vs. the Mask”. What does the episode do so right to merit such raves. Is it the comedy, the action, plot twists?
(Hopefully this can be answered without spoilers.)
Will the end of Season 3.1 (till episode 13) be as epic as the last few episodes of season 2?
Part of CIA training (from what I’ve read…I am not a subject matter expert) apparently involves earning one’s wings; ie. being able to parachute out of a plane. Will Chuck be doing any of that in the next 4 episodes?
I assume that a big reason for this particular podcast is because of the blowup known as 3.07. It seemed like a lot of the media attention after that Monday focused on responding and discussing single, extraordinary reactions by a very select group (aka the “Boycott Boy”) instead of addressing issues such as people’s perceptions of out of character moments etc. In fact, just as it seemed that a majority of the Chuck fans had quieted, media like Ken Tucker from EW.com brought it up again a week later to stir up the pot. So to the question: Why do some media outlets do this? Is it because they are too busy to give attention to what a lot of the outcry was about, or are they looking simply for sensationalism, or what? Also, do they have any thoughts on if this blowup and media responses to the crazy fans will help or hinder getting more people to tune in to watch come March 1st? Thank you!
Kinda spoilery … http://www.televisionaryblog.com/2010/02/spies-like-us-advance-review-of-next.html
NBC negotiated with the creators of Chuck to cut the budget for season 3 as a way to save the show. This has definitely affected how often we see Big Mike, Captain Awesome, Ellie and of course Anna.
Is there any chance that they will be able to return to previous budgeting levels, especially if Chuck continues to be one of NBC’s better shows this season or will this reduced level of budgeting continue to be the business model for the foreseeable future at NBC?
Do you feel these third party romances, after the declarations both Chuck and Sarah made this season alone, belie their age. A display of immaturity being and damage to their characters being the unexpected casualty of keeping the ‘will they or won’t they’ alive. What do you think?
Good Day All,
I’ve asked this of Mel prior to the next 4 being “pre-releasedâ€, and am curious to your opinions.
I’ve been curious and somewhat frustrated about the fact that we know practically nothing about which way the storyline or season arc is going this season, other than the “man becomes spy†aspect. Here we are 1/3 of the way through the book and:
– our lead characters are separated,
– new, mysterious characters have entered the mix
– there is, supposedly an evil foe to conquer.
– any captured intelligence regarding the evil foe is nowhere to be seen.
The only thing we have to talk about is Chuck and Sarah because we know nothing about anything else.
1. With your “insider” knowledge and (I assume) knowing where the story is leading, do you feel you are watching the same story as the rest of us? Or are you maybe able to sit back and enjoy it more knowing the direction the story is going?
2. Would we be better served having some direction now or earlier? We were told not to the close the book in chapter 7 (and I won’t) but where’s “the hook†to keep me reading now that I’m 1/3 through.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
To be more correct, we’re half way through the “original” book. Remember the current story arc was based on a 13 episode season. 6 more episodes were ordered later and JS/CF indicated the last 6 episodes would be more or less treated as a mini-season.
I’m totally enjoying this season, but I see a danger ahead for the show. It can’t continue to have a new “third-wheel” love interest every season to keep Chuck and Sarah apart. It’s to the point now where I think the show could write a realistic spy drama with Chuck and Sarah together. They could still bicker, but they’d be like Bryce was with Sarah.
My main reason for saying this is that I either want Chuck and Sarah together forever or aprt forever. I watch Chuck for the action, comedy and interesting characters. The romance is my least favorite part of the show and I’d like to see it resolved or ended so we can get on with the show, so to speak. I get that Sarah told Chuck they couldn’t be together because he’s not a spy so he wants to be a spy just as Sarah decides she wants a real life. That’s the way life works unfortunately.
But, I really want to see more of Morgan and Chuck. Chuck still hasn’t brought up the condom IOU and Morgan seems to be mad at Chuck because he was kissing Hannah. (Even though Hannah showed zero interest in Morgan.) Is he mad that Chuck is dating hannah or is he mad that his best buddy didn’t tell him they were dating? I actually care more about Chuck and Morgan than I do Chuck and Sarah. I really want to see Chuck and Morgan hash out these silly problems and become the friends they are meant to be.
Just because Moonlighting crashed and burned after they slept together doesn’t mean Chuck and Sarah will too. Moonlighting fell apart because of bad writing decisions. Chuck has the best writers on the planet. If they can get the romance fixed then we can get back to the comedy and action! Ellie and Casey also need more story!
The first two seasons of the show, it never took itself too serious. Now with season three, its seems to be reversed. The show is trying too hard to be serious. It feels like the show is trying to become something like Burn Notice but its not working IMO. Just wondering if you’ve gotten the same feeling from the show.
When is this Pod cast going to be on?
