Friday Five: Favorite Flashes

You know, on any show but Chuck, that headline would have a whole other meaning. Chuck fan Jeff emailed me several days ago suggesting this topic for a Friday Five. Knowing that a major Intersect/flash storyline was coming up, it seemed like a good idea to hold on to it, then let Jeff do all the work by sharing his favorite flashes with you.

  1. “Chuck vs. the Alma Mater” – Chuck flashes on himself.  This flash is full of information grasped on a stop and go watching.  Chuck’s Birthdate, for instance, Sept. 18, 1981.  His address while in college (in Santa Clara) and other contact addresses that are all in Connecticut (What’s that about?).  There are also the results of a personality test that he had taken which lists his scores on various personality traits (he scored high in ‘unruliness’).
  2. “Chuck vs. the Helicopter” – The Sarah as  Elana Truffeaut Flash.  This mostly because it lists a birthdate for Elana/Sarah as Nov. 30, 1979.  This ties in with a joke Chuck makes in Cougars about “one day down and only 364 and 1/4 to go”.  The year works more or less for her high school graduation in 1998 and the date is, well, maybe that was just an Easter egg(if that is the correct term)put in by the creative team.
  3. “Chuck vs. the Ring (Part 1) – “Guys, I know Kung Fu.” No more need be said, but it is the introduction to the new skill now available from the intersect 2.0 that sets up Chuck 2.0.
  4. “Chuck vs. the Fake Name” – The Casey Flash.  This flash did very little in itself except repeat “Nicaragua” and “1989” a lot, but it set the scene for one of my favorite episodes ever and what will be one of my favorite side stories.
  5. “Chuck vs. the Wookie” – The Carina Flash.  Mostly because it sets up the funny line, “She was in Argentina, alright, now could you just be quiet and watch the movie?”

How about you, Chucksters? Do Jeff’s flashes (ha!) rank in your top five?

  1. You know my favorite flash is the Roman flash in S02E02 Chuck vs the seduction.

    rabid

  2. I would have to say that one of my favorite flashes was the 3D one from vs the Third Dimension. The way the object that Chuck flashed on was right in front of you with all the information and files flashing in the background was really cool.

  3. For me, nothing beats Chuck flashing on a plate of nachos…such a RANDOM thing to flash on!

  4. Mel – Do the Connecticut contact addresses tie in with Bryce Larkin somehow? He’s from Connecticut (as am I) per Chuck in the pilot episode. Also my fave flashes are (1) Roan Montgomery with all the cheesy pictures and cheesy music, (2) Sarah’s dad is a real scum of the earth bottom-feeder but a great dancer, (3) Hearing the name Alex Coburn and connecting it to Casey (4) Hearing the name Ilsa Trichina and connecting it to “Sugarbear” (5)Playing flamenco guitar on stage much to everyone’s astonishment, including his own.

  5. Sorry, off topic, Is the forum unavailable or is it just me? Can’t access it.

  6. That flash “Sugar Bear” is also one of my favorites.

  7. The two Buymore flashes, the first time when Emmitt was taunting him and the time with Lester and speaking Thai to the customer were absolutely hilarious.

I just wish the show had more time for flash humor like that this season. God I just about died laughing at how shocked that customer was when he screamed back to her in Thai.

It might be too late in the show – but it would be interesting to learn how Chuck is able to interpret the images and deduct the information when he flashes. We know that all the info was hidden [subliminal] in all these different pictures – but how is he able to retreive the data and make conclusions? Unless there is something more to the intersect than just the data… We are seeing some of his deduction and logical reasoning process now that Chuck is trying to understand the images in his dreams.
Things that make you go hmmmmmm.

  9. The one where Chuck yells in Thai and then takes out Lester with that awesome kick (“Boom boom POW!”) is in my top five Chuck moments.

Another would be the flash on the zipline in vs. the Pink Slip. He tells Sarah so confidently that it will work, then after their safely off the tower: “I can’t believe that worked!” Also enjoy the guitar playing in that one. It really sets the stage for Intersect 2.0

The last one that comes to mind is in vs. the Other Guy, where Chuck ties up Morgan in the game controls and cords. As soon as the flash occurs, you know something hilarious is about to happen.

  10. I guess the season finale will be my favorite flash moment because of “Chuck Versus The Not Dead Yet Super-Spy Daniel Shaw (Codename: Evil Intersect)” flash-overloaded showdown.
Besides I liked very much the flashes in the 1st season. Back then you could also see the images where the data is encoded (apple pie, dogs, flowers).
I liked also the one where he flashes on Mauser from FULCRUM, this “Santa Claus” episode really kicked in with these twists(goosebumps even after several times watching it).
And the best for last: Chuck flashes and ties up Morgan with the X-Box controllers. 🙂

    • There was defiantly a Nintendo Light Gun tied around Morgan, which is a shame since Sarah sliced through all of them!

      • malediktmanson

No more “Duckhunt” or old-school gaming night! (I don’t know actually if “Duckhunt” is a Nintendo-game because I played it on some other old console!)

      • ya duck hunt was on nintendo … i remember cause im old lol

  11. Sugar Bear
    Chuck-fu-ing Lester “Boom boom POW!”
    Flamenco guitar

  12. I really liked the super flash in vs. the Tic Tac. I liked how they slowed everything down and Chuck kicked serious butt.

  13. Flashing on Duck Hunt at the end of Vs. The Beard… 🙂
