Friday Five: Awwww Moments from the Season Finale

A couple of weeks ago I posted my favorite OMG moments from the Chuck season finale. In the comments, several Chucksters proceeded to name their favorites…except they were less “OMG!” and more “awwww”. Semantics, people. I don’t have an English degree for nuthin’! Still, those comments had me saying “awwww” as well, so why not make that this week’s theme? Here they are, my favorite “aw” moments from the Chuck season finale.

  1. Realizing Casey visits the cafe where daughter works every day so he can get to know her better. Adorable and a little heartbreaking. Thank goodness he eventually told her who he is.
  2. Chuck and Sarah at the farmer’s market, tasting blueberries. Such a beautiful moment of normalcy before the spy world interfered.
  3. At the CIA base when Casey and Sarah are parting, they think forever, Casey says, “Good luck Agent Walker… Sarah.” I might have had something in my eye at that point. *blinkblink*
  4. Shaw has Casey and Sarah in custody, only to learn that Chuck breached the perimeter. Casey tells Sarah, “Don’t know when it happened but our boy become a man. Bartowski’s a spy. You picked a good one Walker. Finally.” Sarah’s smile could have lit my town for a month, and Casey’s approval gave me the warm fuzzies.
  5. Near the end when Chuck, Sarah, Ellie, Devon, Morgan and Casey are together again, and then Alex joins them. The acceptance of Casey’s daughter into the group was touching, and the fact that the “family” continues to swell every season shows us how strong those relationships are.

Did you all just get melty again remembering those scenes? Or was that just me? Only 3 1/2 months until Chuck season 4!

  1. Wonderful choices, I agree with them all.

So many over the 3 seasons, remembering the subtle shoulder bump Sarah gives Chuck on the beach at the end of the pilot.

Not sure how I’ll make it ’till S04 starts.

  2. Here’s the question. Will Alex be a permanent part of the show now? Is Mekenna Melvin going to be part of the cast? I think there will be some great story-lines possible–namely, Morgan and Alex trying to date and keeping it a secret from Casey.

    • Yvonnetakesmybreathaway

I’d like to see Casey get back together with his wife. See that tough exterior melt in her arms 🙂 Yea, yea, my wife says I am a hopeless romantic LOL

  3. You’ve definitely forgetting this one:

    – You have to do it, you have to kill me!
    – I’ve already done that once.
    – That’s what makes you weak…
    BAM!
    – No that’s what makes you great!

And then Sarah takes the Governor and puts it on his arm, and he embraces her. Genious! 🙂

    • Have you ever noticed that Shaw has a long running habit of asking people to kill him? He did it in his office in Operation Awesome (although he wasn’t serious that time), outside the restaurant in American Hero, twice in the Ring base in American Hero, at the Cafe at the end of Other Guy, on the bridge in Other Guy, and in the Buy More in Ring2. He either thinks it makes him sound tough or he’s in a hurry to join his wife. When Chuck finally had the decency to grant his request at the end of Other Guy, the ingrate come back to life.

  4. I feel like it would be a crime to not mention the final sentence Papa B says on his video message to Chuck.

“I did it all for her.” (Speaking about Mama B)

That one got to me a little.

  5. And nearly forgot that one:

You’re special, son. It means you’re special! And then the back-flashes aand the repeating of special… This was great!

  6. Everything about chuck vs the subway and chuck vs the ring pt 2 was all awwwww moment! I love watching over and over again again! They did great, awesome and outstanding job !

I can’t wait for this fall!

  7. After watching the finale and the scenes that you’ve mentioned Mel its hard to go back and watch many of the episodes before “Chuck vs. the Other Guy” because things have changed so much and the characters aren’t the same. I’m looking forward to the continued theme of “family” that Fedak has promised in season 4.

    • Huh? That’s what makes it so much fun to go back and watch the oldies — to see the transition take place and realize which moments were so pivotal, yet at the time, got past me. Yeah, I’m pretty slow. I have to read posts like this even to get the finer points.

  8. bethany actually

Did you notice almost all five of your “awwww” moments involve Casey? I suspect you have a soft spot for the big lug. 😉 Not that I blame you, I have the exact same soft spot! The moment when Casey called Sarah by her first name actually made me gasp aloud.

    • One person’s “awwww” moments are another person’s “OMG!” moments. If Casey’s involved, to me, they’re more like “OMGawwwwwwww!” moments. *then melts into puddle on carpet* 😉

      • I’m totally with you on that! Casey’s character development has been an absolute JOY to watch these past three seasons. That scene when we first see him getting to know his daughter melts me EVERY TIME! You can tell that something huge has changed deep down in his heart. Love me some Casey!

      • Totally agree. My Casey has grown to be such a man anyone could love and look up to. His journey has been such a thrill to watch. I keep remembering the way he used to be in the pilot and shaking my head in amazement at how far he’s come.

I loved that first scene at the diner when we found he’s secretly getting to know her, and get this after he’d told Chuck ”What’s dead is dead” I guess he couldn’t deny his fatherly instincts. And when he told he was her father at last, before he’s captured I was melting at such emotion. AB has beautiful blue eyes when ever I see those eyes and that devastatingly handsome face I’m a puddle. The man is sooo good. I love Colonel John Casey!!!!! 🙂

    • Yeah I love it when Casey calls Sarah by her first name, it makes their relationship more a that of a brother and sister. I adore their partnermance together. They had some great moments in the finale.

  9. My favorite awww moment would be the flashback with both Ellie and Chuck, when Papa B tells them “There’s nothing broken in this whole world that the two of you can’t fix.” I think that’s going to come back in season 4 when Ellie and Chuck will learn to work together to find their mom.

  10. I like when Ellie says “Our crazy dad” and then Chuck tells her “He wasn’t crazy. He’s a hero. That’s what I wanted to tell you most.” Now that Ellie knows everything, I really wish he was still alive so the 3 of them could be closer now.

  11. there is a little plot hole that i don’t know if anyone else realized but in chuck vs the Tic Tac casey is at the house and alex and his ex fiance saw him there. i think alex would be a bit confused as to why the guy from her cafe is in her lounge after her mum has been locked in a closet.

    • I just happened to watch the episode Chuck vs. The Tic Tac tonight and Alex never saw Casey’s face. She just came rushing in and gave her mom a hug before she noticed anyone else. By the time she turned around, Casey had already walked out the door.

      • Actually, I think their eyes met for a moment. But I don’t know if ALex thought any thing of it at the time. I’m not 100% sure though. That look in Casey’s eyes were so haunting and so sad I don’t think I could bear to see that look again one time was enough to sear and burn inside me for a good while.

  12. Here are a few of my favorite moments from the finale…but they sort of fit in yet another category…not quite OMG or awww moments…more like nice touches on a masterpiece when you have time to look in detail:

    * Chuck ‘flashing’ & turning on a voice recognition program on Shaw’s voice…somehow seems different than his usual flashes where he gets a data dump based on an image or hears a phrase
    * “You just called me Devon”
    * “Good job guys; awesome….no, not you, Awesome”
    * Casey drumming his fingers on the table at the pie shop while Justin is talking…almost as good as his grunts
    * Morgan’s handling of Alex at the BuyMore — once he hears her story, he’s so supportive (and grown up)!
    * Morgan’s crouch and swivel after Casey gives him the machine gun
    * “A legitimate reason exists for why my father has been absent my entire life and you didn’t think to ask?” “Correct”
    * “Dude…did she mean you or me?”
    * Lester fumbling his pistol in the music video
    * “He’s gonna drop it, isn’t he?”
    * The first file we see in the Orion vault is on Ted Roark

What a great finale and show…

  13. I have to say my favorite was not in the finale but in american hero when ellie says you’re a bartowski start acting like it. that kind of forshadows what happens in the finale

  14. I think there was another awwww moment and that was when Chuck tells Ellie in the car that she raised him – you could really see the sincerity in his voice and his facial expressions. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched and re-watched these episodes and they just keep getting better and better. Waiting for S4 is going to be unbearable. The depth and richness of future storylines were identified in the “batcave” will help get Chuck to Season 5 I believe. What a game changing finale!!

  15. I agree with your choices, Mel! Just reading them brings back the emotion and beauty of those scenes. Now I want to rewatch the finale. 🙂

  16. Big brother Casey has a heart that slowly has been revealed since the end of S 1,when he told Sarah to get our boy Chuck & he would get the Pita girl. Agree with Mel’s picks, right On

    • Word. And at the end when he is looking through the window along with Sarah, both wishing they had a family to belong to. Looks like they got their wish. 🙂

  17. You just reminded me how long we have to wait for the next season of Chuck. . .some days I wish I were a bear, I could just go and hibernate in some deep dark cave while my favourite shows are on break. haha
