Chuck has already racked up an impressive list of guest stars, several of whom have gone on to star in their own shows.
- Matt Bomer – Love him or hate him – or love to hate him – Bryce was a pivotal character on the series. Matt has since gone on to star as an analyst himself in White Collar. As Neal Caffrey, Matt is a suave, sophisticated thief who now works as a consultant for the FBI to track down other thieves. Most of the time. Season 2 of White Collar debuts July 13 on USA.
- Angie Harmon – She kicked butt as Sydney, a Ring agent, in episode 3.04, “Chuck vs. Operation Awesome,” and in a couple of weeks Angie will kick butt as a good guy on Rizzoli & Isles. She plays Rizzoli, the no-nonsense cop half of a crime-fighting duo. Rizzoli & Isles premieres July 12 on TNT.
- Vinnie Jones – We know him as assassin-with-a-heart-of-gold Kurt Stromberg in episode 3.02, “Chuck vs. the Three Words” but starting next season Vinnie will have a regular gig on NBC’s new superhero drama The Cape. He’ll star as Scales, a villain with a freakish skin condition that gives him the appearance of green and gold scales. The Cape is a midseason show for NBC.
- Chevy Chase – Sure, he was a pretty big name before he wrecked havoc as Roark at the end of season 2, but Chevy still qualifies for this list. He’s perpetual student Pierce on NBC’s hilarious sitcom Community, which has been renewed for a second season.
- C.S. Lee – Harry Tang made life at the Buy More pretty difficult for Chuck and Morgan in season 1 before returning to Dexter full time where he’s forensics specialist Vince Masuka. Dexter returns for a fifth season on Showtime next year.
Who will be the next guest star to hit it big after a stint on Chuck?
Good list, but Dexter was already on the air and C.S. Lee was already part of their cast before he played Harry Tang during his hiatus.
Scott Bakula (Papa B) has a show with Ray Romano called “Men of a Certain Age” that went on the air last year.
Angie Harmon was also a star in her own right before guest-starring on Chuck, including leading roles in Law & Order and (the short-lived) Women’s Murder Club. But given that she hadn’t had a series in several years, I can see why she’d be on this list.
I thought I read somewhere that Melinda Clarke (Sasha Banachek in Seduction) has a new show?
Alex Forrest in season 2 (I’m not sure of the actresses name) is also a star on human target. And of course, Scott Bakula in men of a certain age.
Yeah, plus she was on a little show called Battlestar Galactica 😉
Tricia Helfer is her name, by the way.
omg i love human target lol how have i not noticed yet. also i think its kinda kool that McG produces both shows.
also in chuck vs the wookie the “wookie” is now the principal in GLEE
OMG your right, i recognized him on glee and couldnt remember where it was from!
The Wookie himself (Peyman is the character’s name, can’t remember the actor’s name) plays Abed’s dad as an occasional guest role in “Community” on NBC.
Although he doesn’t have his own show… Let’s not forget Mark Sheppard, who:
1) was Badger on Firefly
2) then Tom Prescott on Burn Notice (professional thief – “Bad Breaks” one of my favorite episodes)
3) then Hagen, the bond counterfeiter on the pilot of White Collar
4) then as the Director in Chuck.
Not his own shows per se, but I like the tie in to Chuck through White Collar and Firefly… 🙂
He is also in Leverage, which is an amazing show
And don’t forget Romo Lampkin in BSG, Manservant Neville in The Middleman, Irwich in Season 5 of 24, and Agent Tanaka in Dollhouse. Man’s in EVERYTHING.
If there’s one Chuck regular who doesn’t have his own show but deserves one, I’d say Tony Hale (Emmett) is that guy.
1000 Costa Gravan Pesos says he’s the next to get a show.
Go to NBC’s website nbc.com and watch his web series “Ctrl Z”. It also stars Emy Coligado, who played Harry Tang’s wife in “Chuck” season 1. Zach Levi was involved at one point, playing the arrogant boss in the pilot, but was replaced for the filming of the episodes. Very enjoyable.
Your White Collar link doesn’t work. :(. Just to let you know. 🙂
Matt is awesome in White Collar and his FBI handlers are pretty awesome too, (especially Seinfeld guest star Tim DeKay aka “Bizarro Jerry”) 🙂
The first half of White Collar’s 1st season last fall got me through my Chuck withdrawal and having Chuck on Mondays and White Collar on Tuesdays earlier this year was double the treat!
Also, two of White Collar’s writers, @CampJim and @hayeshenderson on Twitter, are big Chuck fans themselves. 🙂
Yeah, White Collar is a pretty good show. That, Burn Notice and Royal Pains have gotten me through the Chuck withdrawls pretty well (LOL they’re all USA shows too).
Hey, where can I get this funny picture of Yvonne? 🙂
I wondered about this (writers = Chuck fans) from some of the lines in the shows.
I noticed that, too! Some of the lines in “White Collar” were lifted right out of “Chuck”. I went back to see if they had any of the same writers, but they did not. I can only assume that they are fans who paid tribute to the show, which is only fair, as “Chuck” writers often do the same.
What lines? i love both shows and havent watched White collar since the season ended
What lines in White Collar?
ok well obviously more than 5 guest stars have made it big on other shows. i think if you want to make it big in hollywood as a tv star, get a guest role on chuck!
