To celebrate fan favorite TV critic Mo Ryan‘s move to AOL TV today, we decided to invite her back on the podcast to talk about Chuck season 3 and what we hope will happen in season 4.
It’s no holds barred — we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly, and the redemption, sharing our ideas about what didn’t work and why, what worked best, and what we can’t wait to see when Chuck returns September 20th.
You’ll also hear about Yvonne’s two wins at the Television Without Pity awards, what Zac’s up to, some exciting developments at Gray’s new TV Writer Podcast, and some very exciting spoilers.
Get your subway sandwiches, cheese balls and grape soda! Invite all your friends! Chuck season 4 will be epic!

@Mel: I haven’t watched the podcast yet and don’t know if you mentioned this anywhere before but where did you get this shirt? On Comic-Con? It’s awesome! 🙂
Yes, I got it at Comic Con. It’s from Zac’s new Nerd line. 🙂
as always, fantastico!!
Mo Ryan is one of the good ones.
Good on ya Mo, S3 was a total cluster~frack and except for two episodes, made me cringe. I’m glad that you made certain people cringe when you see them at parties lol
I never found the “triangle” stuff, or the interference stuff enjoyable or even unenjoyable in any entertaining way, but the fear of loss when one thought the other was dying, dead, missing, or some unknown, where the feelings came forth and drove the characters into reckless actions to assure themselves the other was okay, and not just between Chuck and Sarah. The caring and how far the characters will go because they care works. The friction does not.
Enjoyed the podcast–much more optimistic about season 4–not high on any guest being around for several episodes (ex James Bonds) but could still be okay. An older version of Timothy Dalton may seem improved. Hope the good cast chemistry stays in front and behind the cameras. Still think we need to have Sarah and Chuck clear up why she shared “Sam” with Shaw and not Chuck.
Look forward to the next podcast–good work!!!
That “Sam” thing still sticks in my craw. Even though the lovebirds have made nice with each other and done the spy will thing, that one issue still gnaws at me from time to time. I think the fact that Chuck and Sarah haven’t brought it up is perhaps because they are concentrating on shoring up the new relationship. It would not be a good discussion to have before things are rock-solid enough to withstand the issue. If they ultimately resolve the matter to Chuck’s satisfaction, I think that would placate me, and perhaps other fans still troubled by this.
Thanks for the great interview with Mo Ryan!!! I really liked her take on the overview of S3 and how some eps were complete downers. Season 3 for me improved pretty much from vs. Beard on and the show got back on track. Totally excited for S4.
Well, the most interesting thing for me still is the question who ordered and why Sarah’s red test…
I thought Beckman said CIA Director Graham did and took that information to the grave with him?
I know that, but why? Was she a Ring agent without Shaw’s knowledge?
My hopes for Season 4 is:
They keep the Comedy/Action and in that order.
They keep Chuck nerdy, sweet, and funny.
They keep Chuck and Sarah together and have them flirt more…hey…just because they are together doesn’t mean they shouldn’t flirt anymore.
Casey…well is Casey…no changes needed, love the character.
What a great episode! Mo Ryan is a wonderful interview. Thanks, Mel, Liz & Gray.
But now, I have a problem! It’s going to be really, really tough to say anything original about S3 ever again. You guys have really had the last word! 🙂
Good thing we have a whole new season coming up to dissect, huh?
Thanks everyone for your kind comments and your feedback! Sorry, I’m swamped with work so I can’t reply to everyone.
2 weeks, 3 days… Whoo hoo!
Cheers,
Gray.
Yay Mo Ryan! it’s nice to hear a lengthy discussion about chuck for the hardcore fans
Did anyone like season 3?? lmao.. As a whole I mean.
I loved it! I can’t decide which one is my favorite, 2 or 3… 🙂
Despite the all-around heartbreak with which the season begins, I like the first few episodes. As they approach “the Mask” and “the Fake Name”, I like them less and less. I found it too painful to watch those two eps. Once they get past that, I begin to like them more and more. The back six are my faves. I will consider it worth the price of the DVD package just to have a copy of “the Honeymooners” to watch time and again.
I loved season 1, 2 and 3, but for different reasons.
While we did point out some things that could’ve been implemented differently, I love where the season ended up, and I think it was worth whatever happened in the middle in order to get there.
Plus, season 3 had some of my favorite episodes of the whole series — Beard, First Class, and Honeymooners would rank in my top 5 for sure — well, at least my top 7.
