Christian Slater’s Ex-Spy Scribes (and a Survivor) Write for Chuck

Look who’s writing for Chuck now! Ali Adler revealed that Chuck episode 3.10, “Chuck vs. the Tic Tac”, was written by Lauren LeFranc and Rafe Judkins. Why does that make my heart skip a beat? I’m so glad you asked!

Lauren LeFranc wrote two episodes of Christian Slater’s spy series My Own Worst Enemy which had a brief run on NBC last season. Although it lasted just a few episodes, it was a series I enjoyed for its intricate depiction of spy life. Slater played a man who had literally two identities, a split personality with one being the hard working family man and the other the reckless spy. When the walls of this mental construction began to collapse, it started to get really interesting. Sound familiar?

Rafe Judkins gained noteriety for a different reason: he placed third on Survivor: Guatemala in 2005. (Incidentally, that season was won by Stephanie who hails from near my hometown.) Rafe played a smart, strategic game and probably would have won except that his compassion for a fellow teammate caused him to negate an alliance that ultimately cost him the game. A smart guy with a kind heart? Yeah, that also sounds familiar. Rafe also wrote for My Own Worst Enemy (he and Lauren are writing partners), proving his mettle in the spy action genre.

So for this episode we have a pair of writers with experience writing intricate spy shows, including a guy who could be Chuck in the real world. Season 3 can’t get here fast enough!
