Meet The New Chuck Writers

With some writers moving on to other projects, the Chuck writers room is filling up with new faces. Gray’s got the scoop on who’s joining the team this year. Want to meet them?

Nicholas Wootton – a veteran of cop shows like Law & Order, Dark Blue, and NYPD Blue, Wootton also wrote a few episodes of Prison Break. He won an Emmy for an episode of NYPD Blue. Will he be bringing some of that gritty drama to Chuck?

Kristin Newman – although she hasn’t had a credit for a couple of years, Newman is responsible for one of the funniest episodes of How I Met Your Mother – “Ted Mosby, Architect”. She also wrote 24 episodes of That ’70s Show.

Craig DiGregorio – with a strong background in comedic writing, DiGregorio’s most recent credits include Reaper and State of the Union. Sounds like he knows how to bring geek and topical humor to the proceedings.

Henry Alonso Myers – Myers just finished work on Ugly Betty, a favorite of mine and Liz’s. His other credits include CSI (original flavor) and Charmed, which sounds promising for the female characters on the show.

Also of note is that Zev Borow and Max Denby have moved on to other projects. What does this all mean for the show? Can’t wait to find out! Chuck season 4 premieres September 20 at 8/7c on NBC.

  1. Whoa! Top notch reporting, Mel (and Liz and Gray). Many thanks.

  2. Only 2 seasoned Chuck writers – excluding Fedak and Schwartz. Even mix of comedy and drama writers.

I like the sensibilities of the comedy writing credit backgrounds. Ugly Betty, The 70s Show, and The Reaper.

    The results should be interesting.

  3. I’m looking forward to Mr. DiGregorio’s work as Reaper had that perfect geek comedy mix to it (and is a personal favorite of mine). Good stuff, bring on the awesome, guys! 🙂

  4. Well, I trust the executives that they’ve chosen people who aren’t gonna change Chuck completely. And I simply think it’s great that they have also these sitcom writers. Nearly a month remained, can’t wait! 🙂

  5. Sounds pretty promising. Very curios, about who does the romance.

    • I think that’ll be Laura and Rafe, they wrote Honeymooners, seems like Ali was leaving it to them 😀

      • Well Honeymooners is my favourite episode of all time, so that would be promising. I really hope that all the new writers don’t forget about or are also aware of the little things that happened in the past seasons. Things like olives, bracelets, Sugar Bears, names, …….

  6. I hope they dont change it too much

  7. Didn’t get to watch the shows these guys did so I’m not sure what to expect. Sad to lose Ali Adler, but glad that Judkins & LeFranc are still on board. Since Schwartz & Fedak brought in the original roster of excellent writers, I have confidence that they made some good choices here.

  8. Wow! They really have alot of new blood! Interesting mix of drama & comedy writers. Good luck to Ali,Phil, Scott,Zev, and the others. It’s amazing the reach of Chuck through all of prime time and networks. That influence is both creatively (writers), and guest stars (Chevy Chase, Matt Bomer, Angie Harmon, etc)and get their own shows.

  9. WOW, I am impressed. They seem like great choices. A very good “mix” of genres and styles.

    Season 4 seems very promising!

  10. These new writers sound like an interesting mix of drama and comedy. A little sad to hear that we are also losing Max and Zev though.

Overall though, I think this will be a great season of Chuck, and really looking forward to seeing what these new writers come up with.

  11. as long as Chuck & Sarah stay a couple, keep fighting the bad guys and we get plenty of laughs. That’s the magic winning recipe. All those shows that do the on again, off again relationships are boring and cliche

  12. Looks like a nice diverse mix they’ve added. I’ve been a fan of Law & Order, That Seventies Show, How I Met Your Mother, CSI and CSI Miami and Charmed.
