Secrets & Lies: Zachary Levi Talks Chuck Season 4

ScreenJunkies has a new interview with Zachary Levi about what’s coming up on Chuck in season 4. They asked him about Chuck keeping secrets from Ellie, something fans have been gnashing their teeth over for a while.

“[It’s going] much better than I expected to that extent,” Levi said. “Secrets are being kept but there’s still some transparency with it. So I’m not having to do the same thing I’ve had to do. It’s a little bit different. I can’t really talk about too much of it because, well, they can’t fire me or maybe they could.”

No Chuck fan was probably happier than Levi when Chuck told Ellie the truth. He was concerned that the fourth season would return to a formula of keeping secrets from his sister. Don’t worry, fans, they’ve got a whole new take on pulling things over on Ellie.

“There’s still a little bit of that but it’s done in a slightly different way. She’s still in on it to some extent so it’s not like a complete keeping her in the dark about things. She’s in on it.”

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Chuck series finale. It feels like a decade …

  1. It seems to me like he’s defending the lying but then isn’t. I’m confused. I just want it to stop. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. I don’t like what he said about a new way to pulling things over on Ellie. Please writers to let my faith in you be in vain I’m counting on a good season of Chuck, my TV lad survival depends on it.

  2. This is somewhat good news. Like I always say, “If you’re going to do same thing over and over again, at least make it look like you’re not doing the same thing over and over again.”

  3. I got the impression from this, that Ellie will know about the search for Mama B and possibly about Orion’s lair, but wont know details of how Chuck is conducting the search.

    • I think that’s it. But I think she wouldn’t know about the Lair, just about the search itself.
Now that it seems Chuck is back in the CIA, will he tell Ellie that he is CIA again, or will he lie about that also and say he is independently looking for Mama B? Hmm, or perhaps he might tell Ellie that in order to search for Mama B he has to remain in the CIA. She would probably accept that under those conditions…

  4. Sounds like Chuck is giving Ellie the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

  5. We have both “transparency” and “secrets”. This could mean that Ellie knows he’s still in the CIA, but doesn’t know particulars. such as nature of mission or operational details. I can see her relenting on her request that Chuck leave the spy world once she begins to understand what Chuck had to go through to get there and how it is so tightly woven into his relationship with Sarah.

  6. The advice that father Bartowski gives young Chuck and Ellie resonates with me. I hope for what it seems, shows face in the finale.

“There is nothing in this whole world you two can’t fix if you work together.”

    I hope, I hope.
