SPOILERS: Is Someone Being Erased?

Ausiello has some Chuck scoop that’s sure to get fans buzzing in this week’s spoiler column:

Question: Please, give us some Chuck scoop! Man, I hate this hiatus. —Ceci
Ausiello:
Yeah, well, you may hate this next scoop more: In this season’s penultimate episode on May 9, “Something terrible happens to someone we love,” reveals EP Chris Fedak. In potentially related news, the show is casting the role of Clyde Decker, a “determined and remorseless CIA agent who will go to any lengths and spare no expense — or life — in order to keep the CIA’s secrets buried.” His nickname? The Eraser. Um, yikes much?!

Hmmm…”something terrible” and “someone we love”. Way to vague it up for us, Fedak. As for this Decker guy, sounds like season 1 Sarah Walker, don’t you think?

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Chuck series finale. It feels like a decade …

  1. Well, Schwartz and Fedak have already shown they’re not afraid of using the Whedon Method for Excess Character Management. 🙁

  2. Okay how do I put my feelings into words? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They can’t erase anyone! Think of the emotional cost when they killed Papa B. Think of how it would stain the happiness about the wedding. Think of the ratings!

  3. I have a feeling this Eraser might mean “ERASE” as in wipe someone’s memories.. Wouldn’t it be terrible if they wiped out Chuck’s memory and he didn’t know who he was! Or even Sarah’s memory of her and Chuck! Uh Oh!

    • o_O Cliffhanger?!?!?

    • Could be…I’d like it better than having a beloved character killed again.

Of the Big 4, who is the less able to keep the secret? Morgan, or if that Eraser guy wants to get rid of the secret itself, it’ll be Chuck. I can’t see Sarah (that would be cheap, especially after her wedding with Chuck) and Casey having their memory wiped, because they never have betrayed Chuck’s secret (that he’s the Intersect)…in 4 years.

Ellie? Awesome? It could fit with Ellie getting to close to the secret for the CIA’s tastes with her decoding Papa B’s computer…yeah, and Ellie knows that Chuck has been with the CIA, but not that he is the Intersect…

      I guess we’ll see!

    • If Chuck or Sarah’s memory of each other gets “erase,” even if only temporarily – meaning it returns next season (if there IS a next season) – then I officially will quit. I’d rather have one of the cast members “eliminated” than something as messed up as having memories erased. Didn’t we kind of “toy” with that in Phase 3?

So, I’ll speculate. If they “erase” someone, who is it going to be. 50:50, either Casey or Morgan.

      • I think erasing Sarah’s mind would be great. Temporarily of course. That would ramp up the tension and Chuck and Casey have to convince Sarah of the changes of Casey not being her ememy anymore and Chuck being her boyfriend. If it lasted five episodes into the FIFTH season, I think would be a good number . I know most won’t agree, but we need more tension on the show. The coupling did take some of that way, not all but they have not had any real tension between C&S this year and I miss that. My husband has stopped watching altogether, he says it lost alot when they got together. To a point I agree.

When you marry someone, you love them for who they are, NOT for who you want them to be or who you can change them into. Why is it when C&S have a disagreement it is always Chuck who gets his way and he is always trying to get Sarah to change, to his way of thinking. If you love her, stop trying to change her. Both my husband and I agree that Sarah is changing into someone I don’t really like anymore. We both loved Season One and two Sarah the bad ass, then somewhat emotional loner and expert CIA agent. She is now a shadow of what she once was and it is sad. Just because TPTB want character growth, don’t absolutely change the core of who and what she was and I think they did.

I have talked to several Chuck fans I know and(especially the men) several feel this way to, so it is not just me and my husband who think this way.

      • i actually like the idea of sarah’s or chuck’s memories being erased TEMPORARILY. that’d be some good tension. i wana see one work uber hard in trying to convince the other person that they know each other.

half of me is saying that it’s jeff or lester that’s gona get memory being erased. LOL. i don’t mind that at all actually. hahahaha

      • Pulling for Sarah!

I agree, I’m kinda tired of the whole intersect there…gone…back again. They’ve played it too many times, it’s old. Even if they don’t erase the intersect and instead remove memories…not a good deal. I really don’t think Chuck and Sarah will get married this season. I think that will be part of the cliffhanger. Maybe fissures begin to occur after Sarah’s dad shows up.

    • Please, no amnesia! It´s the cheapest cliché you can come with a show.
They can´t kill Chuck, Sarah and Casey because they are the core of the show. They ARE the Intersect, as Chuck said in the last episode which means that the authors are aware of this. I wouldn´t exclude Morgan, thought. It would be a real hit for Chuck and it would certainly change his personality.
But I think nobody dies – it says “something terrible”, which could mean anything.

    • hmmmmm. Might it be a way of getting aroung the Lancaster pregnancy for the early goings of the much hoped for season 5???

  4. Let’s hope the “something terrible” isn’t a cancellation notice.

  5. All I can hope is that it is either Jeff, Lester or Big Mike. While it would be a loss it wouldn’t be the same type of loss as one of Chuck’s extended family.

    • Yeah! That gives me an idea… Maybe someone in the Buymore finds out Chuck’s secret and they need to (hopefully just their brain) get “Erased”…

  6. Gringo Chuck Fan

Its the new Buy More employee code of conduct…. Personal Hygene requirements for all staff – regular bathing – and haircuts and grooming.
essemtially catastophic for Jeff and Lester!:)

  7. I think the key here is ‘something terrible’ rather than death!

Really the list of killable characters is quite small if your trying to keep your audience to avoid cancellation. Chuck, Sarah, Casey and Morgan are the safest, Ellie, Awesome and the Buy More crew keep the show from being any old spy show and killing Mama B is just recyling Papa B’s death.

All that being said, I’m sure Fedak and Schwartz have something different up their sleeves!

    Palmer

  8. i wonder if morgan asks casey if he can propose to alex but casey does ‘something terrible’ to morgan. hahahaha i would laugh really hard if that happened:)

  9. As long as it isn’t Chuck/Sarah/Awesome/Morgan/Elie I can deal with it.

Mama B sacrificing herself is the best option left IMO. It accomplishes something deep but also doesn’t take away from the main cast.

Of course something terrible could be something other than death.

  10. If this is as bad as it sounds it will be the same as a cancellation notice. F and S have enjoyed playing these painful games with us and it may finally spell the end of the series we all know and love.

  11. Hmmm…..Would make sense if it was Ellie. She is getting too close to the CIA secrets and because of that they erase her memory. If they come back with a Season 5 they can send her off to get it fixed and conceal Sarah’s pregnancy. Going out on a ledge but it makes sense if they do not plan to write in a 2nd Baby Awesome.

    • If CIA “experts” are smart, they wouldn´t “erase” (whatever it means in the synopsis) Ellie. She could become the second Orion and she probably wouldn´t hesitate much to work for them just because she could help Chuck.
But please, no kids for Chuck and Sarah! The wedding stuff drags too long as it is, I am not sure baby talk in 10+ episodes would be fun.

    • I can see the “the Director” (character played by Robin Givens) being a horrible enough person to wipe the memory of a new mother. I don’t think General Beckman is cold-hearted enough to do such a thing.

I’m still going with someone dying. WB is trying to cut costs and that would be an easy way to do it.

  12. Uh sounds more like season one Casey. I’m sort of upset that Casey’s character turned so soft. It would be great if one of the three main characters was somehow turned and became the new villain. If it was Chuck or Sarah, it could make up for the lack of tension now that they’re a solid couple and getting married. If it was Casey, it would be great television.

    • No, Casey is too loyal for that. He trusts Chuck and Sarah completely, so do they trust him. They risked lives for each other many times. I can´t find a reason why Casey would go “bad”. I can think of Alex being hurt or killed and it would make Casey “harder” again but I like his development and also his relationship with Chuck and Sarah.

  13. Morgan, Morgan, Morgan, Morgan, M O R G A N, what does that spell Morgan. Please, Please let it be Morgan and make it painful.

    • Not necessarily painful but if someone from the main characters should die, I wouldn´t be sorry to see Morgan go. He became a painful “comic relief”, taking Casey down with him. I would be able to accpet him, if they wouldn´t spend so much time trying to make him a “spy”.
With Chuck, it worked because he was naturally smart and his solutions worked. I can´t even believe that Casey would actually give Morgan a gun into his hand since he apparently isn´t able to take a responsibility and treats it all as a big adventure.
I even started to like Morgan in S3 but then he started to live Chuck´s life all over again – and he was the one constantly poking into Chuck´s relationship with Sarah. I hated it.
His death (or injury) would have an impact at everybody – mostly Chuck, then also Casey because his daughter loves Morgan and also Ellie, Sarah, Devon…I am not sure what more can his character offer except being a younger, more bizzare version of Chuck – but less effective and funny.

That is a long comment but I am glad that not everybody shares the excitment about Morgan.

  14. I don’t care what happens to any of the other characters( well, I kind of do,) but, if they mess with Casey I will have to be hospitalized. Do not mess with Casey. He already fell on his head, he’s lost a toe, he was a prisoner of war, he’s been shot, had his tooth yanked out etc. etc., he’s like freaking Kenny on South Park. LEAVE CASEY ALONE.

  15. How about Big Mike? His screen time has been very limited this season and the character has become somewhat moot since Morgan now manages the Buy More. I cant see them getting rid of Casey, and I certainly hope that it’s not Ellie or Awsome. Plus without Jeff or Lester, there would be on JEFFSTER! Hummm……

  16. ‘Someone we love’ the key is in those words people, who is ‘we’ ? The writers ? The fans ? It’s just too vague to narrow this down to a few characters, it’s just a unclear statement to keep the speculation machine running and to keep us comming back… and it’s working haha.

  17. Oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God

    *wibbles*

Please not Casey, Morgan, or General Beckman.

  18. Wow, people always assume the worst. “Something terrible” does not necessarily someone dies. Morgan could get dumped by Alex or Big Mike might experience heart break, or Jeff or Lester. None of the Big 6 will die. This show wouldn’t do that. Mama B might have to disappear but they wouldn’t kill her. It could also be that Sarah reaches out to her family and is rejected. Who knows? Don’t assume the worst. Have a little faith.

  19. kinda sounds like the special operative in Serenity movie from the Firefly series

  20. my thoughts on this are that it could be the bad thing happens to alex as casey has been toying with the idea of telling her mum he’s still alive, so this could be the bad thing. and the eraser could be there to blank her memory of the event

  21. Somehow, I get the feeling it has to do with Ellie and the AGENT X thing she’s discovering on the Orion laptop.

  22. I’m sure no one dies. Probably Alex breaks up with Morgan or Sarah reaches out to her family and is rejected. It won’t be terrible like death.

  23. Ellie maybe because she’s getting too close to finding out chuck’s biggest serect.

  24. Anyone recall the movie “The Eraser”? In that movie Arnie was a specialist in Witness protection who would make people disappear and erase their lives. Maybe they want to put someone into an underground bunker. My guess would be Ellie.

If that’s the case then in a follow on episode, Chuck will get her out.

    • That makes sense Gord. I think most people here have it right. If there is a season 5 (please God) they might want to give Sarah Lancaster some maternity leave and the “Eraser” would be a good way to do it.

  25. “Something terrible happens to someONE we love.” Now, if you can bring yourself to think of the BuyMore in “personal” terms, maybe the someONE is the BuyMore. Vivian already tried to kill Chuck by having Damien try to blow up Castle. Perhaps blowing up the BuyMore – for GOOD this time – is the “something terrible” that happens.

  26. I think this entire season is almost a big yawn. Chuck’s mom is so boring, I’m glad she’s gone for now. The Volkoff story was insane, even though I love Timothy Dalton. And I do like Vivian. I still don’t think she’s the villain behind the bombing. But I really just started to lose interest once they gave Casey’s back story with the whole name change and then had the nerve to kill off Stephen Bartowski. That was a huge wrench in everything and I still haven’t gotten over it.
They could ‘erase’ Alex, her whole plot-line is lame, and she does little to further it. They’ve cut his character down too much, and there’s no true character development between the father and daughter any way. No wonder he’s bored out of his skull and trying to start a new team. Casey said it, Chuck and Sarah didn’t need him this season, did they? Enough is enough already. I guess we should have expected this when they said the budget was going to be tighter.
Hey, maybe they will go old-school and the ‘Eraser’ means they will do a complete Dallas–it was all a dream!

    • I think this season has been interesting and fun. LOVED Volkoff, really enjoyed Mama B’s storyline, can’t wait to see what’s coming up with Vivian (and more Volkoff!).

      • I agree with you Mel. I didn’t think anything could top S2, but S4 is shaping up to be my favourite season.
Volkoff is actually much more interesting villain than Fulcrum or Ring, because we have a face and a truly evil character to hate.

Well except for the kids – the kids love him.

  27. Perhaps there is no mind wipe or death. Maybe somebody is seriously injured from an attack from the ‘Eraser’. Just a quess.

  28. Maybe erased doesn’t mean killed but like in “Eraser (1996)” with Arnold Schwarzenegger is put under witness protection? =)

  29. personally i think it is time to kill someone. look at shows like criminal minds where a few of the main charicters have been killed or removed from the show. Sorry to say it is good for ratings. i think it has to be someone main too. killing papa B was big but it wasent that drastic. i have no clue who. i was thinking Big Mike. i love the guy but someones got to go. i could see them killing Sarah, to end this season and then have next season bring her back somehow. I don’t have the answer but i think someones got to go.

    • I some what agree with you but not kill, just make it seem like a drastic kill.
I think they should have someone shoot chuck and so we can see the emotional side of everyone.. and then leave that as our season cliff hanger, but in season 5 they show that chuck is fine.

  30. Maybe in Chuck vs Agent X the person who turns into agent x is a civilian and is maybe planned to be erased, but in the Cliff – hanger Chuck will try and save him/her and skip his wedding. And ends up getting shot, but in season 5 they show hes all right.

  31. I think that they will erase Jeff’s mind and reinstall it with the mind of a college professor.

  32. why does this remind me of scalamanga the man with the golden gun?

  33. 50 First Dates all over again…

  34. I think they are going to go sci-fi and pull a “Francie” from Alias. Ellie is going to be kidnapped (hopefully just kidnapped and not killed like Francie) and an Ellie imposter will be put in her place. Thus the whole scan of her her sleeping from her Dad’s computer in the recent episode.
